I assume the space there wasn't missing in the original line

for the record: lyx should build fine with libc6 (glibc2), which
slackware 7 has, AFAIK. No need to use libc5. No need to tweak your config
for that.

I don't know what is the problem exactly. But anyway: do you have XForms
installed (libxforms)? lyx requires it as well.
