Sorry, but that's incorrect.  

Sun's operating system was ALWAYS named SunOS.

When Sun changed their kernel to an SVR4-derived one, they bumped the
major version of SunOS to 5.  Justifiably, I think.

The ``Solaris'' name refers to to SunOS 5.x, OpenWindows 3.x, ToolTalk, and 
some other stuff sold together.  Solaris 1 IS a retroactive name for 
SunOS 4.1.x along with OpenWindows 3.0.
