IGLU meeting 3.3
Hi all!
Bit late, but better then never - for all of you who missed the meeting -
here's what we did:
1) Reuven Lerner gave an interesting lecture about web development
technologies. A summery of the lecture will be posted on our site shortly.
2) We discussed the IW2000 booth.
IGLU plans on having a booth at the IW2000 tradeshow (28-30 March).
Peli "Hanamer" Peled arranged a booth for us.
SGI and Compaq will contribute the hardware:
We plan on having one SGI 1400 and 2 Graphic workstations from SGI and Alpha
server, Dual processor workstation and a laptop from Compaq.
(Someone suggested using a mac - AFAIK the mac representative in Israel are
so clueless that we won't get a mac without buying it, and even then maybe
not :-)
Now with all that neat hardware, we brainstormed on ideas on what we should
present:
XFS, SGI Linux, Clustering (?), OpenGL, Performer, Graphic programs,
Applications (Hebrew Lyx, Wordperfect, ApplixWare, StarOffice), Games
(Quake), Samba (and netware?), VMWare, Linux websites, Configuration tools
(webmill, remote linuxconf), Zope, Proxy + firewall, Palm Pilot tools,
Imap-exchange interacting, Distros, QText on Wine (yes it works), KDE +
Gnome + window managers, DVD, empeg (the linux based car mp3 player), IDE's
(codeforge, glade), Client Server video streaming, gedit + freebidi,
XOSView, reiserfs, software Raid, VPN+SSH+X, POVRay.
We will get the Compaq computers somewhere next week (they'll arrive to
LinuxQA offices), we'll do the necessary configuration and installations in
advance, and maybe teach people how to demonstrate parts of the system they
are unfamiliar with.
Right now the biggest problem is volunteers to actually be at the booth.
Linux QA promised us 2-3 people everyday, but this is far from enough.
I'll be setting up a timetable on the site where people can volunteer
themselves. In the mean while, if you think you'll have some spare time on
28-30.3 any time of the day - write to IGLU@egroups.com with the specific
time and maybe things you'd like to demonstrate.
Also there are the give way / selling things to take care of - CD's, shirts,
stickers, keychains, Brochours...
Ideas and solutions are more than welcome...
Anyway, we had a very nice meeting. It was good to see all those new and
familiar people.
I'd like to thank all people who helped arranging the meeting and few more
things:
Alex Landsberg from Compaq, Reuven Lerner, Ira Abramov, Jacky Romano from
SGI and the LinuxQA people. Thank you all!
Regards,
Chen Shapira.
