VMWare CAN be running as a normal user! no need for root previlages!

Also, after lots of stress testing which I did on vmware 1.x - I found the 
fastest Windows OS to be... Windows NT 4.0 - it's faster then Windows 98 
and 95.

However, if you're going to use VMWare 2.x - I suggest for you to install 
Windows 95 only - 98 got tons of bugs with it. also, VMWare 2.x got 
optimizations for windows 95/98 as a guest.
