too true. RAID should be encapsulated in hardware and not bother the
main CPU. from my experiance with software RAID under linux it's a
serious slowdown. unless you only need RAID-0 stripping?

btw, there are good IDE raids for very cheap today. An external box
with 3-6 drive bays is under $2K I heard. that includes caching and
management of RAID 0 or 5 with an i960, and leaves you with worrying
only about the SCSI side (Ultra2). I suppose it should take the largest
drives of 20, 40 and 75 gigs in each bay.

I was told you should look for Galaxy in Rishon, for Arena and Baby
Arena products.
