Re: Auto starting the sound
Hey Noam,
>From the module names, I assume you use ALSA. With 2.0 kernels, you've had
to have "kerneld" loaded to auto-load modules on demand (only when needed).
In kernels 2.2.x and greater, it is automatic via modprobe.
ALSA comes with docs on how to do it the right way (via modules.conf,
not init scripts!):
Here's my modules.conf:
# ALSA sound config
alias char-major-116 snd
options snd snd_cards_limit=1 snd_major=116
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-sb16
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
# OSS/Free portion - card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
This should load both ALSA and legacy OSS support. Works with
latest ALSA 0.5.3. I don't remember if I added anything since
0.4.x. Sound modules would load on demand (on access to
/dev/dsp* or /dev/aloadC*).
BTW; Make sure you do/did:
depmod -a
