Mandrake 7.0 CD-RW and Supermount problems
I have two problems.
1 - I'm asking again, in the hope that this time someone will know
how to solve my problem. I installed Mandrake 7.0 and everything
looks good (thanks IRA), except that I can't use my CD-RW. I can't
mount it as /dev/cdrom2 from the command line or the GUI. Xcdroast
DOES see it as a scsi device so the hdc=ide-scsi emulation is
working. But when I try to use the drive I lock up the computer with
hundreds of error messages saying:
SCSI host 0 abort (pid 2137) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
scsi: aborting command due to timeout: pid=2138 scsi 0, channel 0, id
1, lun 0
At boot, I get an error message. Here's part of the output from
DMESG. I marked the error with ====>>
>PIIX4: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
> ide0: BM-DMA at 0xf000-0xf007, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio
> ide1: BM-DMA at 0xf008-0xf00f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:DMA
>hda: Maxtor 91361U3, ATA DISK drive
>hdb: IOMEGA ZIP 100 ATAPI, ATAPI FLOPPY drive
>hdc: SAF CD-RW2224, ATAPI CDROM drive
>====>> hdc: IRQ probe failed (0)
>hdd: ATAPI 48X CDROM, ATAPI CDROM drive
>ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
>ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15

>hdd: ATAPI 48X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache
BTW - under WIN98 the CDRW works fine.
2 - I also have another problem which may or may not be related.
Because of the CDRW problem, I thought that maybe there was something
wrong with my installation. So I deleted everything, repartitioned my
disk and re-installed. The first time I booted after the new install,
I got eror messages saying Supermount is not supported by the KERNEL.
This is nonsense since I installed on the same box from the same CD
last week and DID get Supermount. So what could be the reason??
