Access to the ftp site with the http protocol ?
I guess that the above subject is nonsense but it reflects:
1) My ignorance, or at least my lack of knowledge.
2) a real problem that I have.
Why would I reveal my ignorance publicly?
Because it reflects a real problem that:
1) Perhaps others share
2) The ftp admin might be able to solve.
The problem:
The problem is that I am behind a firewall and must use socks or in order to
have an ftp connection. Yet debian's APT does not work with socks and the
proxy server seems to connect to me with http when I tries to connect to an
ftp site. (It has a line like
<!-- HTML listing generated by Squid 2.2.STABLE4 -->). Therefor as far as I
know I can not use the mirror of debian. Still I can use debian's APT because
it also support http. For example, I can access http://http.us.debian.org/debia
n which is for the sake of my purpose the same as an ftp site.
Conclusions:
1) Are there more people with the same problem?
2) Can the ftp admin do something?
3) Any other solution?
