It can be done, but you should check the MX record for your domain.

What do you mean that you see messages in the mail Q? Is it the outgoing
messages mail Q? If it is the outgoing Q - it doesn't mean that the messages
reached your server from the outside, and still the problem might be MX
record.
Did you check the MX record (with nslookup)?
Also, Sendmail should be configured to receive e-mails for the domain name
you have assigned.
