If you really need connect your linux box or laptop to cellular
modem - I have solution for you :-)
It's called Packet Data and you can get it from Mirs.
Prices are per Kb and you then can be connected 24x7 with
this technology :-) I'm not sure about real prices, but
I guess you can get it from Mirs representatives.
It's working as sharm with linux ( in fact it behaves 
like external modem and connects to your PC via serial
cable ) and even with Palm PDA :-)
Real speed is something around 19200 and it works not bad at all.
