Yes, and when leapfrog starts acting weired, try telling Cadence that it
doesn't work (You are running WHAT OS on your UltraSparc ???). They can't
really support this configuration, even if it really DOES work.
My experience with VLSI designers and managers is that they are very reluctant
to changes. With tapeout dates and project milestones squeezed hard, the last
thing they want is another unknown factor that may cost them a few days of
downtime in case of troubles. For example, suppose you get a synopsys crash
after a few hours of runtime. Can you REALLY be sure it's Synopsys and not the
O/S? Since synopsys *do* crash from time to time, you can't really tell if
that's the case or not. Would you spend 3 days investigating this, will your
managers let you?
We were running Solaris 2.5.1 and not Solaris 2.6 because a specific
environment required it (maybe you use it as well - SC Highway).
