I basically agree. The two lists together are sufficiently low-traffic
to be one. I have no problem at all skipping uninteresting (for me)
threads. What were the words in the kernel documentation: Let's all
kill this beast [IGLU in this case]?
The idea of separating newbie help from "real" technical discussions
has been floated many times. I have always been skeptical about it for
one reason only: newbie questions will be asked on the technical list
anyway. Given the observed attitude, they won't be just ignored - we
will see not very polite flames telling the poor newbie to post to the
other list. I would much prefer to read (or skip, or post) answers on
the "technical" list.
For the record:
1) Currently I am subscribed to both lists. I think I was one of the
first IGLU subscribers because I thought we should give it a fair
try. My conclusion is that it is not needed.
2) This is not a criticism of Ira's laudable efforts to liven up this
forum's activities.
3) Of course, Guy is right saying that if people want to have a
separate list no one can prevent them from. The only concern is, as
Shaul mentions, missing an important announcement or an interesting
tidbit of information, or not sending what one deems interesting to
both lists. I personally have no problem sending all the postings
from both lists to the same folder, I just don't see, at this
moment, much reason why they should be separated at all.
