There wasn't anything between 3.0.3 and 4.0, but I think that given the
following mathematica series:
4.0, 4.1, 4.2
5.0, 5.1, 5.2
6.0, 6.1, 

I think we see a pattern here.

Also, given the current timeframe (considering the pre 2.4 annoucement, and
the fact that it's too late for the next 6.x which is due in a few days), it's
quite a safe bet that the next one will be a 2.4 based release and would be
called 7.0.
