It also provides grep-status which gives you the status of a packge.
As far as I understand both are derived from grep-dctrl. The other stuff that
is in the grep-dctrl package is the usual share/doc dir, man pages and so on.

Beside apt-cache that Alex had referenced to I can only think about wget +
some script. Although much less appropriate for the job in hand it is a more
general tool.
