btw, null-modem cables can also be purchased - this is god for people like
me, with two left hands and a bad abilit using a "Malhem" (how do i say
that in english?).

you just go to your computer store, and ask for a null-modem cable, or for
a crossed serial cable ("Cabel Serialy Mutzlav" in hebrew). if they
understand you, they are likely to give you a good cable for something
like 30 NIS or so. you might need to also buy various converters (e.g. 25
pin to 9 pin) - they are normal converters, not crossed - the crossing is
done only inside the cable (althougt technically you could have made the
cross inside the converter, and then use a normal serial cable).

the same goes for crossed paralel cables - ask for a laplink cable
(laplink was a software for enabling file-browsing connection between two
PCs using a crossed paralel cable, and the software package was boxed with
such a cable). these cables may be used if you want to set up PLIP
connections, for example.

hope this helps,

guy
