It's absolutely painless with Midnight Commander (has ftp built in)
and even more painless with MC over NFS. I'm assuming that you are doing
Linux/Linux or Linux/UNIX. You can also do Linux/Windoze with MC's ftp.
MC does files, directories & archives. You get MC with every halfway decent
Linux distro, or you can download it from GNU.
