Hi Linuxers,
I need to buy a soundcard for Linux (2.2.17 kernel) and would like to make
a list of modern cards supported by Linux and available in Israel.
Could please everybody who bought a computer with a soundcard (or just a
soundcard) in the last half year send the details of the soundcard and
with what driver he got it to work to my email ? Don't bother spamming the
list with it, I will be glad to publish a summary.
Please note the Brand, card model, chipt type, PCI ID's (from lspci),
driver details.
Also negative cards are welcome (like: Creative Vibra 128, model
ct4800, chip 5588, PCI xxxx:xxxx, es1371.o detects card but doesn't
work) so that we know what NOT to buy (that's what happened with me, btw).
The background: Once upon a time Creative Vibra 128 used to work and
contained a ES1371 chip on them (or similar). But now I got a "new" Vibra
128 with a completely different chip on it (something 5xxx) and it doesn't
work :-(. I hope that this survey will produce a list of modern and cheap
soundcards that I can present to the computer shop and tell them that any
card from this list will be fine.
Thanks for your help,
Schlomo Schapiro
