Locking packages from dselect

When using deselect, by default the upgrade list gets updated with
newer version of stuff (that is, if I use the unstable tree and
do apt-get update once in a while). This is generally a Good Thing,
but has one very annoying flaw: the kernel. I use a custom built
kernel and module set, plus pcmcia (this is a laptop). I DO NOT WANT
to get any updates on my kernel or any of the related packages, no
matter how good for me dselect thinks these may be.

How do I let dselect know that it's okay to upgrade (say) my
/usr/bin/dc whenever a new one comes out, but NOT touch my beautiful
kernel?

(The first time this happned, I suddenly lost my network capabilities
since the "upgrade" process had stopped cardmgr. The cheek!)
