I do not recall anyone mentioned the modem init string. I suppose this can
also cause the problems you mentioned. Beside reading the modem docs you might
look for the one that MS-Windows is using (but I can not tell you off hand how
to find it).
What about connecting your ISP with minicom? Does the modem has the ability to
send faxes? Did you tried that under Linux?
