Re: [OT] FreeBSD 4.0 stable is out!!!!

> XFree4, FreeBSD4, (almost) Linux 2.4 - this is one busy month!

Why going so far (Linux 2.4) ?
There are much closer announcements, like VMware 2.0 (released in
the beginning of this month), Solaris 8.0 (available since the
beginning of this month, source code to be released soon), RedHat
6.2(*) (to be released in a few days!), DOSemu 1.0 (released a few
days ago, after so many years of development and zillion betas),
etc. The beginning of April, will bring with it the 7.0 version of
PostgreSQL, and probably also PHP4 and GNOME-1.2.0.

Also expected (but not so soon): Mozilla 1.0 (a.k.a Netscape 6.0),
BIND 9.0, and - as you mentioned - kernel-2.4.0.

All of this story (including the XFree86-4.0 and FreeBSD-4.0) was
what I wanted to tell you in the last meeting (at Compaq), and Ira
"budgeted" 5 minutes for it (the time I asked), but I had to leave
before, and now this news is not hot anymore (because about a half
of the announcements are already behind us; This first one (VMware
2.0) was a few hours after the meeting...).

(*) Regarding RH6.2 - as always, maybe except for timing of 6.0,
this is probably the worst time to release a new distro, and RH
chose it... This release misses the new XFree86, a working
Mozilla, GNOME-1.2.0, and PostgreSQL-7.0...
