I saw a number of pages about dealing with Rio from Linux. Never heard about
such utilities breaking the device.
Also, never saw utilities for other players, but many of them use
CompactFlash/SmartMedia cards, which might be
able to read from Linux using external card reader.
And I, personally, am waiting for Pine MP3 CD player to come (they promised
it in April, though since it's already
22nd and no PR from them, that's unlikely). If that thing does what they
promise (play MP3s from CD), and with cost
below many current MP3 players (at least, try do buy a player with 650M :),
without need for any software except CD writer and without any compatibility
problems
linked to this - it'd be a real hit.
