I spent last evening trying to connect Mandrake laptop to any of my M$ boxes
using 10BaseT crossover cable.
I don't want to purchase a hub, and according to the theory everything
should be OK with such cable.
The cable is vanilla-classic 1------------3
2------------6
3------------1
6------------2
BUT: nothing works.
Link LEDs are not lighting.
Pings are timeouted at M$ and "destination host is unreachable" at linux
box.
All works terrific with my company's hub and straight cables.
I even started a sniffer at NT and saw that there were an ARP broadcast for
Linux box with no response.
Seems that cable is the problem, but I checked it 3 times.
Anyway, maybe someone succeeded in the past to connect 2 boxes without a
hub, I would appreciate him to share the experience with me.
