Re: Netscape 6.0x NOT containing BiDi

Well, it depends...

You can grab the latest build (or CVS) and compile mozilla with Logical
Hebrew support (I don't remember what parameters you should put - Ilya -
do you remember?)

I don't remember all the details - but the Logical hebrew is inside I
think that the Logical hebrew is not enabled due to some argument that
the Logical Hebrew is done correctly or not. In other words - politics.
Go explain people that the user doesn't really care how its written - as
long as he/she can use hebrew...

I did few weeks ago some testing to comprare the speed on Konqueror
against Mozilla. I don't know if it's the GTK or some optimizations, but
Konqueror seems to me (didn't time exactly - only my feelings - tested
on PII 350 with 192MB RAM), faster then mozilla.

I have noticed that while Mozilla is slower - it's a bit more
compatible. You might ofcourse say that since Mozilla alone got more
developers compared to Konqueror - it is more tested. You may also say
that since mozilla is in the building stages for more then 2 years
against Konqueror (barely 1 year).

You may also want to know that some guys from Corel grabbed the Gecko
engine and removed the GTK and wrote the graphics part with QT - which
came out (according to 1 developer I spoke with on IRC), 45% less then
Gecko with Mozilla - and also faster and more stable. It will be
(probably) included on KDE 2.1 so you will be able to select your
browsing engine - Konqueror or Gecko - and thats thanks to the KPARTS
technology.

I can, btw, now reveal that QT 3.0 will be with full Hebrew BiDi support
- including right to left text editing, push mode, etc... - QT 3.0
snapshots will be available at the end of next month. The KDE 2.0 Hebrew
engine will be a bit slow with heavy hebrew sites like MSN Israel - a
thing that will be fixed with the QT 3.0 since all the hebrew will be
built on QT.

I would like to ask - could someone give us a status report of whats
going on with GTK 1.4? (or is it 2.0 now?), from the hebrew aspect,
release plan or something...

Also, will Gnome 1.4 will come with some Hebrew support?

Thanks
Hetz
