Just taking a wild guess, but ...
Microsoft intended the Media Player to "upgrade" the system's
Media Player application, not as something separate.
The Install/Uninstall separates system components (the stuff
you've chosen during Windows installation) and "third-party"
applications - so, tried unchecking Media Player in the
Multimedia section of the "System Components"?
BTW, as a side note, Win2K's Install/Uninstall applet
is an interesting thing. It actually suggests when you last
time ran an application, and suggests by that what you'd probably
live without once you need the disk space. Cute idea.
(no comments please on how it sends the statistical data later
to Microsoft HQs :)
