You didnt tell what monitor you've configured.
try :
Section "Monitor"
       Identifier        "LCD Panel 1024x768" (or "LCD Panel 800x600")
       VendorName "UnKnown"
       ModelName   "Unknown"
why not to use XF86Setup ?
laptop tips:
do : 'man -k pcmcia' - lots of commands, do man and read.
