RE: Corel 2.0 ISO

Title: RE: Corel 2.0 ISO

It offers nothing to experienced user indeed, but I always thought that Linux lacks some "good" hands of professional graphics designer, which can bring  some desktop-user-attractive things to Linux. I always suffered from amateur look of both KDE and GNOME, though it represents good the spirit of open-source community it distracts the "native" WZ and MAC users.

Corel is strong player in the proprietary  world, and I would like to see what the aggressive Microsoft-like marketing + the full-time development team + open source can do together.

There are some additional reasons of my curiosity:

- I have seen what Corel done to KDE in 1.0, did like it at the beginning, but it made me upset at the end.

- Also I hope to see something like "Network Neighborhood" which works transparently for users, not demanding to define the "boochta" of SMBmount/SMBumount parameters, and is able to detect itself that remote M$ computer was rebooted or changed CD media in remotely shared drive.

( I tried both Gnomba and LinNeighborhood and still disappointed of their complexity, though the second one is better ).

- Looking for something like "clipboard", which works always, not like those of native KDE or GNOME.

- YAST, Linuxconf and this one of Mandrake are good configuration tools, but not enough friendly for those that have no idea what a kernel-module is but want to define a ESS sound card. I hope to see something less comprehensive but more novice-user friendly, like the hint of the Corel Control Panel from 1.0, which was rather obsolete.

All the above mentioned things are not so important for the participant of this list, and even for me, but anyway I would like to see if the big company can make Linux desktop comparable to MS/MAC, whether they have a time and force to fix the annoying little things.

I kicked away Corel 1.0 after three days of war.

Best Regards,

Evgeny
