Wild backup Idea

Hi

Today my win98 was deleted because "cat /dev/zero > /dev/hda"
why i did it is a very strange story but lets leave it :-)

To backup it back i had to go all the process of installing winblow and
then restoring with win backup tool.
This step is too long !

Can I do from linux partion "dd if=/dev/hda of=hda.img" and then put it
back with "dd if=hda.img of=/dev/hda" ?
