Re: kernel crashed




Are you able to reproduce this problem?
If you 'nice tar cz /var/httpd' manually - will it work.
Could this action take a lot of CPU power?
I once had crashes during tape backup and found out that this was due to to
long time the computer is busy compressing everything before loading it on
tape (I used tar -z ). Take CPU+Tape+Disk heated up the system and caused
the memory and CPU to fry. Due to that - I got the same messages you had.
If you can't reproduce it, and it still happens occasionally, my first
guess would be a hardware problem.
