Re: printer consumer report (and ISP consumer report - thanks)

True, but it itself was not useful to me because it has a terse list
of supported printers where I didn't find the models I was interested
in. I was reading the howto on a computer, so the reference to the
really useful database was either missing or not very noticeable. When
I looked on the Net, the link to the database stood out in blue color.

Interestingly enough, the models promoted by BBL and Office Depot are
not in the database, either, with the exception of Epson Stylus Color
660. This one is in the database as "mostly working" which seems good
enough. The Office Depot people told me that it tends to break and is
difficult and expensive to fix and maintain, though. Can anyone
confirm or refute this?

There is Canon BJC-6100. The database lists BJC-6000 as "partially
working". I wonder how close they are.

Lexmark Z31 is not in the database either. Lexmark Z11 is listed as
"Paperweight", so I'll try to stay away from Z31.

HP DJ-815C. My impression is, you can never tell with HP. I am sure
the printer is quite decent, but does it speak PCL? The Office Depot
guys gave me the HP support phone number - I'll try to find out. The
bloody thing is quite a mystery - I could not even find it on the HP
web site. tried "Discontinued products", too. ;-)

I should have thought of that, of course ;-) Old habits die hard,
though - I just fired up Google. What does it take to make our site
pop up when one clicks "I am feeling lucky"? ;-)
