your task list is gone, not the entire panel. click the main menu (foot
print) -> Applets -> Utility -> Task List (this is in Helix Gnome 1.2,
YMMV)

it's OK. we all make mistakes and spend eternal afterlife of damnation

copy over the .gnome*, .enlightenment and other such directories from
the root to the user is a good start, but sadly in some of the configs
there are absolute paths, you may want to rgrep through them to fix
it. I'll leave it to you as an excercize.
