Re: Interbit pushing linux too now.

Hi, Chen!

Well, not so fast, will you. In the States there was a time when many,
many companies published press releases of the type "We're using
Linux." That was somewhere around the successful Linux IPOs, I think,
and to some extent it still continues now. (Check out the press
releases section on LWN.) This phenomena hasn't yet reached Israel,
but sometime it must -- we're always a few months behind the States,
so it's probably close.

And then, if we're visible enough, instead of publishing "We use
Linux!" they can publish "We use Linux and we're affiliated with the
Israeli group of Linux users," which is much more powerful. (In the
States it's harder to say, because there isn't one LUG; the closest to
that is perhaps LI, and indeed many big companies have joined LI.) It
will probably take a couple of successful Israeli Linux startups going
public or something. AFAIK there've been none to date, but it will
happen.

We need to make Israel know that IGLU *is* the reference point of
Linux in Israel, and what we're doing now is exactly the way.

(I know this doesn't help us in the *short* term, though. :-/ )
