RedHat 6.0 / 6.1 is prefferred target platform

Slackware uses .tgz, where it puts control information (no deps) in.
Stampede uses .tgz as well, but default extension of packages is not .tgz
neither .tar.gz, but something else. BTW, a .deb archive consists of two
tar.gz files (control and data), glued together with ar (so you can use
standard POSIX tools to operate a package).

For flames there is comp.os.ms-windows.advocacy and such :) Or me :))))
