This can't happen - If atapi cdrom takes over a drive, ide-scsi driver
(which is loaded later) won't find it, which is why the hdc=ide-scsi
command line is necessary (to prevent atapi cdrom from taking over hdc).
The problem sounds as though it may be wrong device settings. Is UDMA
enabled (in BIOS) for any of the cdroms?
Mandrake tries to automatically set drive parameters for ide drives. Make
sure it does not set anything for the cdroms. (grep for hdparm under
/etc/rc.d )
