Stas, I think you have your facts wrong on this. The Tevel experiment with
cable modems started several years ago, and certainly predated the creation of
Yes (the sattelite company). I remember discussing this with my sysadmin in
the open university, something like three years ago, wondering whether he
could pull a string or two and help me get into the experiment, being a
Macintosh user. At the time, the only discussion was whether cables were
better, or xDSL, and there was no sattelite option in site. There was also a
company that tried to create a net based on free wireless frequencies, and
went broke. Then we had a sattelite experiment in the open university, and as
far as I know, it was the first such experiment in Israel, and it did not
involve "yes", but rather built on the sattelite infrastructure the open
university already had for its interactive classes.
