exactly what tzafrir said. if i am not mistaken its a umsdos or something like that.
I believe the man asked how to run linux without repartitioning.
another solution as you suggested is to use VMware, but i guess he don't want to pay
for something like that if he uses win98 and he can simply boot to linux.
