I should have mentioned that this was the first thing I tried, but
then I started seeing various popups (logged as a user in KDE-2.1.1)
complaining that fstabs could not be read. What exactly caused the
complaints, I don't know, and frankly, I did not try to investigate
thoroughly - the error message is better than "Error 8022ce3654" that
Bill likes to bug you with, but not informative enough. I am quite sure
that the CD was not in, so it's not due to attempts to mount a CD as
user (which I would like to do).

I tried to add myself to the wheel group and make the file readable by
members of wheel - didn't help either.

Does anyone know what that is about? There is nothing special about
my fstab - several Linux partitions, a cdrom, and a few samba shares.
If it can help, I'll post it.

Administering samba is not my job, and after failing to find a scheme
quickly in the *obvious* documentation sources (no, I did not study
the Samba Bible, whatever that might be) I decided to ask the experts.
