Actually the kernel is quite a seperate component. Upgrading glibc is a
seperate issue.

(Fortunetly you already have rpm 4.0, so this upgrade is not needed)

Redhat has recently issued a kernel upgrade (to fix the lately discovered
local root exploit).

http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/RHSA-2001-130.html

This will get you the latest kernel, and you do need this upgrade...

Hmmm...

Wasn't there a more up-to-date version of glibc on redhat's updates?

  updates/7.0/en/os/i686/glibc-2.2.4-18.7.0.i686.rpm

I suggest you read the advisories from
http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/rh7-errata-general.html and follow
them.
