Re: Is there a Linux ghost?

hi daniel

| Hi all!
|
| Does anyone know of a Linux programme (possibly commercial) with the same
| functionality as Norton/Symantech Ghost?
|
| Purpose: To hook up n computers to a server and copy to their hard disks a
| "canned" operating system from a pre-stored image per customer order. (Typically
| would be Win 98, Win 2000, Linux).

consider using a cluster installation package (like IBM's LUI). besides
helping you with configuration of machines, most of these have an options
to mount all or part (especially /usr) from a single machine, thus all
programs installed on it are automatically installed on all machines.

also, once this is setup, a new machine require a special boot disk, and
five minutes. not only it is fast, but if you ever need to do the copy at
the client's location, it won't require a physical disk transfers
(although i heard ghost can copy from network too)

Shlomo.
