but how do you know which IRQ it is trying to use? 'setserial' only shows
you which IRQ the operating system is _expecting_ the modem to use. not
which IRQ _the modem_ tries to use.

i also don't think a plug&play modem (even if its an isa modem) is
supposed to work with the bios that comes with the 386 system - plug and
play did not exist back then.
