I know. I think that's why EsounD worked with it in the first place.
However, I do not want to run xmms directly above ALSA, because that means
nothing else would be able to play a sound at that time.

Well, for the while xmms works with EsounD and MikMod works with EsounD,
and I think GNOME also works with EsounD. So, I'll stick to it until all
of my favourite applications are ported to something else.
It's a pity that the two desktops cannot decide on one unified sound
layer. I'd hate to be able not to hear sounds from both desktops
simultaenously.
