Redhat & APT [recommendation]

Hi All,

Well, tonight I needed to do some massive upgrading my other machine from
Redhat 6.2 to 7.2, so I upgraded with the CD's and then I decided that those
debian guys are too "spoiled" and there must be a better solution to do
massive upgrades, specially to server farms and lots of workstations (I know
about Aduva Manager, but it doesn't support RH 7.2 yet, at least according to
the site).

So, I played with ... apt4rpm - you can get it from:
http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net/ (there are binaries for RH 7.2 and 6.2)..

The idea is basically almost the same with debian, but without the dselect
function.

After playing with it a bit I'm happy to say that it works very well without
any problem. I tried apt-get upgrade, apt-get dist-update and didn't have any
problem - just like debian.

So it might worth using it if you got lots of RH linux workstations &
servers. A simple weekly cron job should do the major upgrade (don't forget
to create a local mirror! scripts are at the above web site to create a
mirror) for your machines and your life could be a lot easier (think about
upgrading GNOME or KDE to all developers).

Of course - Aduva Aduvizor & Director solution is far and beyond about this
solution and it's MUCH more flexible, with a good GUI, and an excellent
managment solution, so when it supports RH 7.2 - please give it a whirl ;)

Thanks,
