KDE1's kikbd isn't really hard to understand. Try looking at its keyboard
maps (<KDEDIR>/share/apps/kikbd/??.kikbd , IIRC, where KDEDIR can be /usr
or /opt/kde or whatever)

Something like:
setxkbmap -model pc104 uk
