not holes. if it were holes, they the COPY would be larger then the
original.
the more likely explanation IS based on block sizes. linux allocates disk
blocks of size 1024 bytes. thus, a file of size 5 bytes or 1000 bytes will
both occupy 1024 bytes of disk space. on UFS, i think that normally the
block size is 2048 bytes (at least this is the case with the file system i
checked on now).
the 'ls -s' command will show you how much disk SPACE a file occupies.
thus, a difference of over 10%, as demonstrated by the person originally
asking the question, would be possible have there been many small files on
the ftp account.
