sad yes - but what could be causing it??

That was the first thing I tried. And the fact it didn't work was (to me) proof
that the keyboard and mouse were not being reacted to. I do use ReiserFS and
haven't lost any data, but that's probably not an issue anyway since this only
seems to happen when the machine has gone into suspend after a period of not
being used, so other than cron jobs, etc, there's minimal activity - therefore
probably no reason to lose any data.

I had the same problem on Mandrake 8.0 (kernel 2.2), so I don't think this is a
2.4 specific problem (I'm now on Mandrake 8.1 with kernel 2.4.8-34 which I
downloaded from the Mandake site after having problems with the original kernel
in the distro).
In any case, what kernel do you think I should try? And do you think there's a
chance that a non-Mandrake kernel might help? I'm willing to try - contrary to
popular belief, updating the kernel is easier than alot of other things in
LINUX :-)
