Dear Bar-Ilan
students, faculty and staff:
In the second semester we are planning a
series of informal lectures covering the basics of Linux. Our target
audience consists of people with some experience with unix systems, who
would like to learn what linux has to offer, how to install linux, and the
basics of system administration.
The lectures will hopefully take place
once every two weeks. We have started making contacts with people in and
out of the University who have linux experience, asking them to volunteer
to give a lecture. If you happen to be, or know, a linux devotee, please do
send us your/his/her name so we can sign you/him/her up to help. Once we
get going we will also approach the Israel Linux Users' Group (http://www.linux.org.il)
for help. We hope that this will be just the start of organized linux
activity in the University.
We would like to hold a brief first
meeting to fix a convenient time and preferred topics for the lectures.
This meeting will be on Sunday January 21, 19:30, in the seminar room on
the 3rd floor of the Math and CS building. Please bring your schedules for
2nd semester. Please do not disturb the class that meets in the room from
18:00 to 19:30. If you cannot make the organizational meeting, but are
interested, please send us an email. In the spirit of linux, the lectures
will be open to the entire world, but we ask everyone who wants to
participate to let us know in advance.
Sincerely,
David
