pppd on notebook

I have been using my notebook with NIC for a while but now I urgently
have to confiure my modem and dial-up.

I tried a couple of things but now i am stuck (even though I am sure
it is some very simple thing that every newborn should know)
I have a SuSe 7.0 based system with 2.4.7
pppd is 2.4.1

with kppp 1.6.22 I can connect with the terminal (I get login
prompt and username) but I cannot with the ppp connection,
it does not say why.
when I use wvdial it dies with
CONNECT 115200
--> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.
--> Starting pppd at Wed Aug  8 15:45:42 2001
--> pid of pppd: 6353
--> Disconnecting at Wed Aug  8 15:45:42 2001
--> The PPP daemon has died: pppd options error (exit code = 2)
--> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail.
--> Try again and look into /var/log/messages and the wvdial and pppd
--> man pages for more information.

and in the /var/log/messages it writes
Aug 8 15:45:42 notebook pppd[6353]: unrecognized option 'passwordfd'

I have no idea where does it get this option I grepped my whole /etc
tree already but I could not find it.

an idea (or qualified RTFM) is welcome.

(the ISP is Barak and I have no problem dialing in from my desktop)
