Re: Is there a Linux ghost?



Perhaps I should add a few riders:
1. I'm familiar with dd and its limitations.
2. The environment is commercial - with technicians putting together systems to 
order, pushing down a base bootable OS, and then doing any customization by 
hand. That, by the way, is the way the large operators do it, using Ghost to 
push the stuff down.
3. You don't want the techies frigging around with Linux "gotchas" instead of 
assembling systems.
4. The target systems will not necessarily have the same boot partition size as 
the canned image.
5. Performance is an issue (i.e. time is of essence).

I suspect that it may be possible to build a script using dd and related 
utilities as suggested, but somehow I don't feel that that is the answer for a 
commercial setup.
