Last time I checked, inconfig's "media" option did not work in Linux, and
I had to pass an option to the driving while loading it with insmod.
Because the driver wasn't documented anywhere, I had to find out this option
by reading its source... Which driver are yo using? (see lsmod and/or dmesg)
For example, the eepro100 driver which I use accepts the parameter "option=.."
with the ".." being an ugly bitfield specifing things like duplex and speed.
If you have eepro100, try "options=112" for half-duplex 10Mb/s. (this is not
documented anywhere I could find - I just read the source code...)
Is there a saner way to do this? Maybe even after a driver is loaded (like
I remember used to work in BSD Unix)? Does the 'media' ifconfig option
perhaps work for some of the drivers?
