Re: Linux on 486 with 16Mb RAM



on Saturday I've installed MDK8 on a P100.
it didn't want to install before I put in the box atleast 64MB (at first
there were only 32MB), claiming that the initial ramdisk cannot load.
apparently - the newer linux installers, maybe specificly DrakX, need more
memory present during install, then during normal usage - they need it to
load extra modules, autodetection stuff, and all the nifty things that
installers do, so you won't have to guess exactly kind of hardware you have.
so my recomendation will be - get  a really old distro.
I still have SuSE 6.1 running around here somewhere - I once installed it on
a 32MB DX2, with no problems.
