As soon as I sent out the posting, I realized that someone would ask that.  The point is that I have a program written in Xlib that I want to 'wrap' in gtk to give it menus, toolbars, etc.  I got the impression that this is what the stuff in gdkx.h is for, but now it seems more complicated, and maybe it will be easier to just change all the calls to Xlib functions to calls to gtk/gdk.
