In the case of slackware, I don't think it would help at all. Anyway,
FYI, the slackware source disc has "build_slack" scripts that I'm guessing
will recompile the distro.. never tried it though. I wonder how much
faster it would run if compiled for a Pentium?...

I know that you can re-compile the kernel for the processor you are using.
1. Do you need to re-compile the entire distro when using an old
processor?
2. Can you re-compile the entire distro?
