It may help security if the server does some content filtering. Otherwise
it is just a cache.

You can overide this (i believe) .

I work with squid at home for a few month now and did not get any problem.
Actualy, I chain my proxy to Machba proxy...

This behaviour is built in the user and can't be uninstalled
