there should be the ide-scsi module in the kernel,
(why isn't it a device /dev/scdX?)
besides .... do you use the cdrecord directly or via some kind of GUI ?
(sometimes these GUIs don't follow the correct syntax,
so you only write the TOC or something like this)
have you also tried to burn a CD at a lower speed?
(maybe cdrecord is speed limited somehow)
