well, if you are using mail dirs, it's a very simple script, maybe a
single find command.
if you are using mboxes (bad idea in more than one way) you can surely
find an mbox-handling module form perl or python, and peel away older
messages from an mbox.
I pity the users losing their mail if it is unread, though.
