Indeed its a really strange problem. I dont have much knowledge in printers
under Linux but I'll try to help:
Is there any connection to the BIOS PnP support? maybe you have to disable
PnP in BIOS?
When doing lsmod parport and/or parport_pc load successfully? dmesg doesnt
show errors?
Logs dont show errors? Do you think about any conflict between hardwares?
when you do insmod lp do you get any errors?
Look on www.linuxprinting.org printer driver database and look for your
printer. There are a few .upp files for your printer, maybe you'll find
useful information.
Look on http://www.linuxprinting.org/howto/kernel.html maybe you'll find
useful information.
Hope this helped.
