you could try using a multi-meter and check that the wires are all
connected properly - don't ask me how to _use_ a multi-meter - i just saw
people with more clue then i got that use this to check cables they've
made.

i figure out it _could_ be that one of the wires isn't touching the metal
part of the connector (i.e. was pulled too short) and thus won't pass
eelctrical signals. if this is the case, you'll need to cut off that
connector and attach another connector instead.

perhaps there's someone on this mailing list that has the equipment and
knowledge, and could help alon with that?

btw, how long is the other cable that works for you? does it work between
the same computers and same network cards?
