X server's memory usage is strongly afected by running applications - an
appliction stores its run-time bitmaps inside the X server (for better
performance of remote execution). konquero, for example, causes a great
rise in the memoery usage of the X server - up to the numbers you have
mentioned here.
so now figure which apps u run at home, that u don't run at work.
