pppd on an old 386

hey list,

I have just installed and configured my old 386 as linux firewall/router for my network. All went well, i configured the pppd (i'm using a modem) like i do every time, and ran the pppd.

For some unkown reasone the pppd failed. The /var/log/messages only shows "Connect script failed."

I had the same configuration (pppd configuration) in another computer and there it didnt fail. I researched a bit in the subject and i compered the two computers i have (the one that works and the 386). What i found is that they are the same and what differes them is the CPU speed, 386 vs Pentuim 1.

I dont know if this is right, but i think that my problem is the CPU. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

I use RedHat 6.1. I'm trying to solve this problem for some days now, but no luck. I  address this mailing list for help cause frenkly i'm out of ideas.

thanks,
