i really don't think MSIE is so successfull because of it's quality,
but its nature - it used (or still uses) windows' GUI-shell explorer, and this made it
faster - it always partially resided in the memory so it took much less time to activate it,
besides, the OLE and other interapplication communication made it really comfortable for
the user and the viruses...
'bout israel: yes, windows support hebrew well, but the real reason is not for this forum :)

i think Konqueror can claim this under linux with all the weight of KDE2, it runs fast and
uses all the mimetypes etc. beautifully... there's some things to be done of course, but let's see
what QT3 will have to offer in hebrew dimension.

this will sound really non politically correct, but english always have been and
will remain "established"
society, they won't really like much to download & burn software,
compile code etc. besides its "hacker" reputation is not very likeable.so the only place
where linux will be very common is (as always) educational and voluntary organisations.
other thing is life quality - note how much linux/bsd's are spread in russian society.
