Hi people,
Well, since I'm unemployeed and got tons of free time - I decided to chase
around a new problem I've been facing for at least a week...
VMWare modules are not compilable under kernel 2.4.8pre or 2.4.7 and up...
It took some diggings, and here are the results....
First - you'll need a patch - you can get it at my utterly slow connection
(Netvision connection lately sucks big time - alternative ISP's with good
feedback recommendation is more then recommended) - at the following URL:
http://witch.dyndns.org/vmmon-for-2.4.7-only.tar.gz
gzip -d this file (do NOT open the tar itself - it needs to stay closed).
Now - go to your /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source and rename/remove the
vmmon.tar file and put this instead (with the same name of course).
For those who are not using VMWare RPM based - the place is
/usr/local/vmware/modules/source
Now - you can run vmware-config.pl as usual (as root of course) - it runs
perfectly. I tried it with 2.4.8pre series and 2.4.7ac5 - all works ok...
Enjoy,
