Stiven,
1) Being the original writer of the howto , and also the one who wrote the
ip(chains/tables) part i'd appreciate a bit of credit too....
2) I still reccomand using iptables. ftp and irc are supported.
3) If the iptables do not work smoothly, as in your case, recompile a
kernel with netfilter support (modules whereever possible) + if you like
the ipchains support. Also ensure that the kernel is configured for
automatic module loading.
4) in your case, I reccomand upgrading the 2.4.7 kernel to the latest (
2.4.13) as many virtual memory bugs were fixed.
