1. compile alsa with oss support
2. load the oss modules. (snd-pcm-oss,snd-mixer-oss), load
them before the soundcard module.
3. compile alsa-utils, and use alsamixer to turn your sound on (make sure
all the channels are on. all of them are muted by default)
