Alex,
Which distribution has "idle" in /etc/ppp/options by default? I am not
aware of any, certainly not mine RedHat 7.0... The reason for
disconnects here is something else.

What I discovered is that sometimes the connection "freezes", so I
added these pppd options: "lcp-echo-interval 60 lcp-echo-failure 3"

Because ADSL ppp link is "virtual", pppd has no modem DTR lines to
detect disconnects. These options will enable pppd to detect
disconnects, and let me re-establish the connection properly again.

My linux box is up 24x7, and connected all the time, and I see several
disconnects a week.

Haim.
