You probably run XFree3 server with XFree4 libraries (This is how
Mandrake configures an XFree3 server).

run:

  ls -l /etc/X11/X

To see what program exactly is your X server.

You can use 'rpm -qf /usr/X11R6/bin/thatfile' to see from which package
it comes.

Run:

  rpm -qa |grep XFree86

XFree4 will use /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 if it exists, and otherwise
/etc/X11/XF86Config [1]. XFree3 will only use /etc/X11/XF86Config . Thus
this setup allows you to have different configuration for an XFree3 server
and for an XFree4 server.

[1] See the XFree86 (1) man page for the exact details, but I don't
believe that there will be a config file elsewhere.

Those are only relevant for a version 4 server (XFree4).
