RE: Linux downloads too slow

I would check DNS lookup.

if this is not a DNS problem than why not use tcpdump to dump all packets
and reply times ???
see if the request goes out and then understand what is going on ?

Subject: Linux downloads too slow

When using Windows to load a tiny Java applet from a server on our LAN, it
takes less than 5 seconds to load the applet. However, from Linux (RedHat
7.1)
it takes nearly 4 minutes !!

It's not a Netscape problem either -- I tried using 'wget' on the command
line
and it also took way too long just to get a 300K jar file.

Something in the networking configuration of this Linux is screwed up. Can
anyone point me in any direction? Please help with clear instructions as I
am
stil a little "green" when it comes to Linux.

Thanks very much.
