OK, this proves that there is no problem with interrupts, and probably
no problem with hardware.
I think you should still look for difference in configuration, even if
you are sure there is none. Did you try taking the HD that is working in
the Pentium system and installing it to the 386 system (or at least copy
the filesystem)?
