Precisely. Actually, you can sort your mail efficiently regardless
of the actual program you use to read mail - with procmail. Gnus - 
originally a newsreader - handles *a lot* of mail gracefully and 
- with some elisping - splits them into multiple mailboxes organized
into an hierarchical topic structure. Throw in sophisticated
threading, scoring, expiration, and other fancy stuff with roots in
usenet.

My religion is better than anyone else's, of course.
