I would recommend debian. i've i had good exprience with debian on computers
much weaker than that. (486,16mb;mac with 5mb, 386 with 4mb... well, that
one didn't really like the rasdisk idea, but worked.)
the good thing about debian is that you can use your own kernel for the
first boot, and use their scripts for the installation. they allready have
the whole thing ready in floppy form, cd or over lan. it the easiest distro
for low-end installations, unlike redhat..
