IIRC Apt does use Recommends, and it was suggested that end-user UI
tools should use Suggests. I.e. Depends -> Recommends -> Suggests
reflects the the transtion from lower level to user level in dpkg
-> Apt -> GUI. Wasn't that the case?
Never had problems with Apt myself, except with dependency ambiguities
on Unstable. Do you prefer dselect because it is better, or because
you prefer not have things happening automatically?
Apt sure is slow, though (I'm on 24MB 486), and an independent package
listing could be a reason for that...
