some interesting news from the linux arena

Ha! That's a good one.

Great Bridge didn't start PostgreSQL. They didn't fund very much work
on PostgreSQL. A minority of PostgreSQL core developers worked for
Great Bridge. And finally, Great Bridge had *very* few clients --
including several owned by Landmark, the VC firm that backed Great
Bridge.

I believe that Great Bridge had 10 vice presidents within a year of
business. Not bad for a company with 50 employees and fewer than five
clients!

PostgreSQL is an amazingly reliable and good database, and the fact
that one company failed trying to support it doesn't mean that
PostgreSQL is going away. Indeed, Great Bridge started to have lots
of trouble after Red Hat entered the database market with precisely
the same product at a lower price point.

The more I use PostgreSQL, the more I love it. The demise of Great
Bridge is sad, but won't hurt PostgreSQL development all that much.
