Hi!
I used MandrakeUpdate recently and in the process it upgraded my kernel.
Now, I use loadlin to boot the kernel from my Win98 partition. After the
upgrade, I forgot to copy the new kernel to my Windows partition, but that
was not the end of my troubles.
Apparently, I could not find a /boot/initrd-2.4.8-34.1mdk file on the
filesystem for some reason, so the kernel refused to boot and hanged up on
me. Does it suppose to happen?
If I remember to copy the kernel and the initrd file to the Windows
partition, should everything work flawlessly?
I also tried creating a boot diskette and extracting the initrd file from
there. However, then the kernel complained that the vfat filesytem was not
supported by this kernel (which was true because I used the older kernel
and did not have all the modules). Eventually, I had no choice but to
downgrade the kernel by "rpm -Uv --force"'ing the package from the CD-ROM.
I'll try it again sometimes later (while keeping the older kernel in a
safe place), but I'd like to know what I (or MandrakeSoft) did wrong.
Regards,
Shlomi Fish
