1. Could you please explain what an IP filtering rule is? It doesn't sound
like something I would have without setting it up myself - and since I have no
idea what it is, I don't think I have it.
2. In the logs there is nothing much useful. It only says "connection reset by
peer". The error that the Windows machine displays after the operation errors
out is "resource no longer available". Here is a more complete example of one
of the samba logs (service SuSE is the name of the share I defined):
[2001/03/21 18:56:46, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(550)
plextor (172.26.4.115) connect to service SuSE as user root (uid=0, gid=0)
(pid 284)
[2001/03/21 18:57:39, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_socket_data(477)
read_socket_data: recv failure for 4. Error = Connection reset by peer
[2001/03/21 18:57:39, 1] smbd/service.c:close_cnum(583)
plextor (172.26.4.115) closed connection to service SuSE
Also, notice that samba is running as root. This is not the normal case, but I
just tried it to eliminate the possibility that there are privilage problems
here.
I really hope someone can still help me here.
TIA !
