first of all,
sunday news paper (calcala) indicated lowering of prices from 2200 to 1700. second sony
announced that they are going to make it a standard possibility to run linux on their boxes.
meaning it will be cheaper and more versitile than a regular pc. also, u don't need to buy windows
to play games on ps/2. just the games.
you do the math.

Problem is - that they (Ishfar) are not selling it as a computer, but rather
as a games machine,
and if memory serves correctly - that why it costs so much...
Take a look at this:
A Sony playstation 2 costs about 2279 NIS (official price):
http://www.netaction.co.il/multi.phtml?item=267465
Add $300-$400 for the Linux PS/2 kit (the price is not yet known to the
european market users) and what do u get?
way overpriced Linux machine - if you buy it only for Linux...
Now - I don't have anything official on hands, but I heard already some
people are planning to hack the upcoming XBox to allow it to run Linux on
it. The major issue with it is the ROM as well as some drivers tweaking. It
would be fun to buy XBox to run Linux on it, specially since MS is
subsidizing the price of the hardware ;)
