Hello,
I have a problem connecting to the ADSL
service from Linux. I have tried everything I know and I simply can't get it to
work. Maybe some of the ADSL experts here will have an idea...
First, before the big problem, I
followed the ADSL howto exactly (I hope) but when I tried to connect I got an
error from the pptp program saying it couldn't establish a call. After checking
the pptp protocol docs, I found out that the patch to pptp_ctrl.c file, as
described in the ADSL howto, doesn't seem to be correct. I changed the line
from:
hton16(PPTP_WINDOW), 0, 0, 0,
{"RELAY_PPP1"}, {0}
to:
hton16(PPTP_WINDOW),
0, hton16(10), 0, {"RELAY_PPP1"}, {0}
(the "hton16(10)" is the length of the
phone number, "RELAY_PPP1", maybe some ADSL modems just ignore this field?).
After changing this line the pptp program successfully establishes an outgoing
call and starts the ppp daemon, but the ppp daemon can't connect to anything. I
tried connecting to several ISPs and got the same results. I ran the pppd with
debugging enabled, and this is what the logs show:
Jan 19 17:51:00 lior pppd[1333]: pppd 2.3.11
started by root, uid 0
Jan 19 17:51:00 lior pppd[1333]: Using interface ppp0 Jan 19 17:51:00 lior pppd[1333]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttya0 Jan 19 17:51:00 lior pppd[1333]: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0x9f6aceb2> <pcomp> <accomp>] Jan 19 17:51:27 lior last message repeated 9 times Jan 19 17:51:30 lior pppd[1333]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests Jan 19 17:51:30 lior pppd[1333]: Connection terminated. Jan 19 17:51:31 lior pppd[1333]: Exit. Apparently the ppp daemon tries to send
configuration requests through the ADSL modem, and never gets any
reply.
Some additional info: I have an
ADSL modem by Orckit, and I'm using linux 2.2.18. I have another computer with
win2000 installed, and the ADSL works without problems there(with same modem).
I can give additional
info upon request. Anyone got any idea?
Thanks,
Lior
