So didn't I.
So what I say isn't MS related.
1-2 years ago I looked for freeware DM tools. There are few.
The best I found is weka <http://www.cs.waikato.ac.nz/~ml/weka/>.
It's written in java and should work everywhere (I tried only
on Linux).
It's accompanied by a book, which I bought, and read the first
~30 pages, and looks good.
I wouldn't define it as 'commercial grade'.
E.g. its UI is far from commercial DM packages I've seen.
On the positive side, it has much more DM-related algorithms then
some commercial packages.

BTW, note that serious commercial packages are very expensive
($10,000-$100,000), and it will be interesting to see if MS's
stuff will compete in features. If they do, then this area will
become the same as the OS market, in which there are mostly
2 competitors now.
