I am using Mandrake 7.2 for quite some time now and have noticed a very
strange problem which was not present in Mandrake 7.1. When I run xmms in
order to play mp3s, and do something which is a little CPU intensitive in
parallel, I hear the music muffled. Something CPU intensitive can mean
starting gvim, or opening a terminal window or moving windows around.
In MD7.1 I sometimes heard pauses but nothing quite as frequent as this,
which is really disturbing. It is occuring whether I use KDE, GNOME or
IceWM.
I am running XMMS by using EsounD as my backend. I have a PIII 600 MHz,
with 64MB of RAM, 45 GB of hard-disk dedicated to the Linux, and a
Creative 128 PCI sound card. I did not re-compile a kernel yet, but saw
little incenitive to do so, as my current configuration detects all the
hardware I need.

Shlomi Fish
