Re: Slightly OT: An AGP 1.0-compliant 3d-accelarated graphics card

Well,

The most recommended graphics card I can recommend today is Matrox G400
(Single or DUal head - depends on your budget) - this card is not the fastest
one in 3D term - but you won't get any other card that gives such a clear
picture (and thats why the sell a lot - people simply want only Matrox).
Also, this card is the most supported card under Linux with all it's
extensions.

Other cards:

* Riva TNT2/TNT2-Ultra/Geforce/Geforce-2 - they are good cards with a various
pricing and performance (Geforce 2 Ultra is the fastest 3D - but costs a
lot). but you'll have to settle with a binary only drivers, and less fixing
of drivers (I had my share of crashes even with their latest driver 0.9.6 at
work with AMD based motherboards)

* ATI Rage 128 - nice and cheap card. Not a very fast card, but you can buy
it a cheap price. not very fast 3D, well supported under LInux (Open source
drivers)

* ATI Radeon - a very good graphics card, and a very fast in 3D (faster then
Geforce 2 - but much cheaper - don't know about the prices here in Israel).
Only problem - the 3D drivers are still under heavy development. However -
according to one of the drivers developers, they have already got performance
much faster then it's windows drivers :)

* 3DFX - Pretty good card, but I don't know how much more it will be
supported since NVidia bought them and no one will manufacture them any more..

* Intel i810 chip based graphics card - DON'T touch it! shitty card!

Hope this helps,

Hetz
