Theoretically: yes. rpm and deb make this possible, and quite easy.
Practically: you need a monster compiling machine (not the 486,
certainly). You probably can't afford testing everything.
You also won't be able to apply hotfixes from mandrake as-is (you'll have
to compile them). This means that you'll have a longer esponse time. Think
of what happens if there is an problem with a big package.
