When you post a message to the list, please try to describe your problem.
What do you men by "doesn't work"? That can mean almost anything from
"unable to get my system to use them modem" to "cannot resolve DNS
addresses" (and in some extreme cases: "cannot have a certain web brwser
load crtain sites").

Please don't write "it doesn't work". If something doesn't work: describe
it exactly. Keep in mind to seperate symptoms ("pppd gives an error. On
the logs I see this and that") from your interpertations ("problem of
imcompatibility between kernel 2.2 and 2.4" even though it may seem very
obvious, and probably in the case here).

Such accurat postings wil save one (or even more) rounds of ping-pong
questions.

Probably answered by others. Maybe this is indeed a name resolving issue.
Make sure that the loopback interface is up.
