Nope. You can get libfaim and try it yourself. As much as I've seen
(via ethereal), it's some XML packet transfered via that protocol.
Alternatively, you can use their web interface to send SMSes -- it'll
have the same effect; quite fast, and no ads (160 chars). Oh, and you
can poll the web interface to receive messages.
