Its not such a problem, but it isn't trivial.
If you upgrade using RPMs, then the old include files should be removed, and
the new ones put instead - automagicly.
Now - upgrading only the glibc packages would probably coz lots of havoc, as
some RPMS really want a specific glibc version, and some (not most - just a
bit) really do need that specific version. anyway - don't forget to upgrade
your locales. I know that in my system (Mandrake 7.2) some files moved from
the glibc packages to the locales packages, and so I was missing lots of
files after just upgrading the glibc, and some programs - like perl for
example - were complaining about improper locale settings.
Anyway - after I fixed everything, I still have a problem with software that
uses librpm - they keep complaining about missing symbols in librpm, and
crash. now I can't run MandrakeUpdate :-( but I guess that due to the fact
that I also upgraded to RPM 4 - another thing that I think one should
carefully consider before attempting. Weird though.
I think that Mandrake are planning to number their next version 8.0, and I
see no justification to that. 7.0 was a major release, signifying their
break from 100% RedHat compatibility, HFS, completely re-written installer
and lots of new administration packages. but the next version, except for a
new kernel version, a paradigm shift in the way the configuration stuff
/looks/ under X and a new version of KDE2, I see nothing extremely new - why
would they not call it 7.3 ?
