Dear Linux Group Member,
I have a problem activating the "quota" system on a RedHat 7.1 System.
I recently updated a 6.2 system to 7.1 using the standard system on the
RedHat 7.1 CDROM. The computer is a COMPAQ Proliant 3000 Server with two
CPUs and a SMART Array Controller for the Disks.
1. The loading system loaded two "kernel"s one for single CPU operation and
one for the operation of "multiple" CPUs. The SMP system, the "kernel" for
multiple CPUs hung while booting complaining about a "cpqarray" program.
(This is the driver for the SMART Array Controller.) The single CPU system
loaded and operated using only one CPU. The "kernel" on the CDROM which I
had is Version "2.4.2-2".
2. I downloaded the "kernel" version "2.4.8" from the network. I then
compiled it with the proper configurations which includes to "Processor type
and features - Symmetric multi-processing support" and "File systems - Quota
support". The system loads and seems to work correctly. At least both CPUs
are detected and work.
3. With this new system however the "quota" system does not work correctly.
(I did the conversion from the file "quota" to "aquota" as using
"convertquota".) When I return the system to the supplied "kernel" version
"2.4.2-2" with only one CPU working the "quota" system work fine.
Has anybody seen this problem with the "quota" system? Does anybody have any
suggestions to what the problem is?
This system is used as a student server with many accounts. To control the
amount of space allocated to each student we need a working "quota" system.
