While what you say is true, hebrew-izing a program like Star Office is a
much bigger task than providing a mirror (a la "sunsite" that they already
have in many places around the world) or lecture hall. I don't know if they
really agreed to do something as big as working on Star Office (other people
said that IBM is already working on it, so obviously such work would be a
little redundant, especially since the success of IBM's work on Mozilla shows
us that they can deliver what they promise).
I'd also go for the font idea that someone mentioned. I'm assuming that if
Sun ever sold computers with Hebrew support, that they already own some fonts -
and since I don't suppose they intend to enter the font business, I doubt
they'll lose anything from contributing it to the GPL (or similar license).
Maybe they even own a Hebrew dictionary (wordlist)?
By the way, I'm a bit suprised that Sun wants to help Linux. I can see why
Sun wants to help free software (which is being used a lot on Sun machines),
but not helping Linux per se. After all, Linux+PC is, in many circles, a direct
competitor to Sun's machines... So in this respect them helping out with a
word processor makes sense, but them providing a mirror of redhat (for example)
or halls in which people could preach about Linux perhaps doesn't...
