There is no necessity for a second ethernet card. The ADSL modem can be
connected to the hub (using a crossed cable). The Linux box will gladly
talk to both the LAN and the modem, using two different IPs on the same
adapter.
The downside is the security issue which I pointed out in
http://plasma-gate.weizmann.ac.il/Linux/maillists/01/02/msg00203.html
and which is now known to exist for Alcatel modems.
