Actually, many of us could get along without it, but setting the locale
(spesifically: LC_CTYPE) to one spesific value, and hoping we will not
need to use input in another non-latin language.

But this also means that there is finally a non-experimental (mozilla,
gtk2) program that requires a propoer hebrew key mapping. Hacks like
"8bit" mapping won't work with it: it will treat those chars as accented
latin characters ("gibrish").
