RE: Phoneline Networking

Several comments:

1. Yes it is possible. I used ADSL + PNA + regular phone + fax/modem
on the same line for 6 months with only one problem: My LinkSys PNA
bridgle fried 3 months ago. I don't know why, but I would stay away
from LinkSys products.

2. I used both LinkSys 1mbps cards (PNA 1.0), and NetGear 10mbps cards
(PNA 2.0). Both work. However please note that only older PNA 1.0
chipsets are supposely supported under linux. Newer 2.0 chipset
(forget the name of the manufacturer, starts with "b" I think) is
closed with NDA, and virtually every HomePNA card uses it. I doubt it
will be supported under Linux anytime soon.

I used the following setup:

Linux server, ADSL modem, HomePNA/LAN bridge and my own W2K machine
connected to the hub. On the other side of the bridge I have other
familiy members' PCs (all Windows) in other rooms connected via PNA.
It worked pretty well, and 1mbps speed was enough for net surfing (I
upgraded to 10mbps later because I wanted to run other apps, like
intercom, mp3 server, etc)

Greetings,
Haim Gelfenbeyn.
