I don't know how to do it with gnuclient or with t?csh.
Here is another reason for you to switch to bash for scripting:
bash$ echo "this is what I want" | xemacs -insert /dev/stdin
As for your cvs diff example, have you ever used pcl-cvs under XEmacs?
