wow, tzahi, enough with the trolls already, ok?
i'll go against my custom (and common sense) and actually respond here.

BY JUDGING HIM BASED ON HIS PAST PERFROMANCE, DECISIONS, ABILITIES,
DESIGN AND CODE. DUH.
how do you think the linux kernel got to where it is now? what role did
linus play in it? ask yourself, where would it be _without_ linus?

excuse me, but this is an utterly stupid comparison. THE SOURCE IS FREE.
you dont like linus' decision? fork! you think he's misguided,
conceited, or plain stupid? roll your own linux! nobody is stopping you.
how can you compare this with the power bill gates holds over the fate
of windows. in the paraphrased words of paul muaddib, if i remember my
dune correctly, 'he who has the power to destory something, has the
power over it'. linus does not have and never will have such power. bill
gates does.

you just proved my point. why do many in the linux community have
confidence in linus? because he showed that he deserves it by knowing
what he's doing.
also, the paragraph above shows that you are not familiar with the
things are done. neither am i, in particular, but i believe anyone
following the kernel mailing list can see that linus does allow more
people into the decision making process and does correct his (rare)
mistakes. in cases where there's a profound disagreement, you can
actually see 'mini forks' - consider the vm in linus' tree vs. alan
cox', or the device number issue.
linus is also a superb designer, and considers it his job to maintain
the integrity of the kernel by NOT ALLOWING bad code or bad design in. i
wish all project leaders (that i worked or will work with) were like
that... i wish i was more like that.
please, no more trolling (or politics!) on such a (sometimes) lovely
(sometimes) technical list. if you must reply, and your better
judgement says it's off topic, reply to me in person.
