That's assuming you use plain xdm, and not gdm or kdm . With those you
need to do similar modifications (I don't remember exactly what, but I
found the documenttion that came with both gdm and kdm pretty sufficient)

What xdm exactly do you use? How exactly have you tried to configure it?
What do you mean by "not working"? What clients?
What are the "permissions" you refer to exactly?
Is the xdm server listening on the xdmcp port (177) of the linux box?

I'm not sure I like this sort of "evolution" ;-)
This IncrediMail makes a huge message (a big html part, and there's a
background image as well). If anybody here uses it, please find a way to
disable its html mart, or at least make it considerably smaller.
