IANAL, but in the case before us you don't need to broadly interpret the
law at all: a computer sending / receiving email * is a fax machine *
for all intent and purposes: The fact that your fax happens to use the
IETF SMTP protocol rather then the ITU T.30 protocol shouldn't matter,
just as a fax machine that uses ITU T.38 (fax over IP) protocol rather
then ITU T.30 is still a fax machine.
