Hi people,
Well, in the last week or so I was searching for a solution to my problem on
my machines (I have posted the error before)...
The error is quite simple - you'll get lots of fd error:broken pipe from the
FAM process whenever you use RH KDE or (more common) if you add/erase/upgrade
an RPM (doesn't matter which RPM). Those errors have been came in TONS (just
an example - upgrading Mozilla resulted in 2,840 messages! - so think
performance).
Well, since I'm still unemployeed, with lots of time, and a good nagging
ability, Finally there is an official solution (thanks to the guys from
Redhat and SGI)..
I really don't know if this problem only affects Redhat 7.2 alone - I'm
affraid also Mandrake 8.1 and SuSE 7.3 - all of them who are based on RPM v4
and using FAM (from 2.6.0 to 2.6.4) - this problem can specially seen on all
who use Red-Carpet to do all those upgrades...
So, the RPMS and SRPMS are available here:
http://people.redhat.com/alexl/RPMS/ (I suggest you build it from the SRPM
[rpm --rebuild fam-2.2.6-1.src.rpm]).
Perliminary testing here doesn't show the "broken pipe" behavior any more,
but anyway YMMV.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
