Re: Connection to Netvision
Well Yuval, as you asked so politely not to be flamed, I won't be the one
to flame you.
But COME ON!!! coneccting to NetVision (or any other ISP for that matter)???
I mean, linux users DO know (well, usually) their way around their system!!
At my work in NteVision, I had the chance to talk to some of our linuxers
customers, and guess what - they where in the business!!!
(At least more than the poor WIN95 users with the "control panel? what?",
not to mention the MAC users...)
Anyway, to the point: NetVision users have to go through these steps in
order to connect:
1) Set the modem to HW flow-control/8n1/ECC protocol.
2) Dial to one of our POPs (there is at least one POP in every area-code).
3) Enter userneme and password.
4) Enter PPP mode.
After checking the username/password, the terminal server will change the
port setting to PPP, and walla - the user is connected.
(Note that with other ISPs, the user enter to a UNIX account (restricted)
and has to ask for PPP - but other ISPs sucks...)
So - with linux all the user has to do is to set up the propper DNS settings,
vi a couple of files - one line each, (for the pppd and the chat) and that's
all!!! no need to use clumsy shell scripts and such.
BUT for those who need to be fed up with a spoon (need?? - WANT!! ;-)
there is a script which can be download from burka.netvision.net.il/~ftp
Just let me to conclude with my favorite -
"MICROSOFT, EST DENDA CENSEO, SENTEUM"
(MARC - feel free to fix my Latin)
(amitro - I think I covered it all up, didn't I ;)
