Re: SPLIT Linux-il

Hello, all.
I haven't been following this list recently, and have seen most of
the arguments and threads in one sitting, so I can allow myself to
be called relatively objective.

The military job offers were out of line. Remember that this is a
Linux-oriented mailing list, and NOT il.jobs. Please DON'T post
non-Linux related material to this list. However, the replies generated
by these offers were unjustified as well. I think we should agree
never to to repeat this again.

Regarding the latest discussion about splitting this list -
I think there's a lot of sense to this. There have been complaints
from people about other people sending relatively BASIC questions that
are covered in FAQs. I think part of our jobs is to answer even those
people, and not yell them away (a lot of people I know didn't install
Linux because they're afraid of having to learn the entire thing from
an expert-oriented electronic manual. It IS a turnoff). However, some
people are right that they shouldn't have to put up with all the
questions.

In short, here is my offer - I think this group should be split into
two groups. One should be a completely Q&A list, and should posted
to a newsgroup if technically possible. In here we would answer EVERY
question, not just those we like or think are intelligent. This list
should be MODERATED, and answer each question in turn. Since it'll
be technical, it'll be easy moderating it and won't generate too much
discussion.

The other list, should be for more general Linux discussions, and
should NOT be moderated. This would allow people who just want
to socialize with Linuxees to do it, while reserving a space for
beginners and people who aren't that advanced.

Tell me what you all think.
