Bezek service 135
it was sugested by a few people (who would like to remain anonymous) that
we can use the Bezek 135 Internet service. I calculated the costs for 3
days of the far to be 300-500 only on the phonebill if we do (calculated
with setup time, 2 parallel lines for all the whole time)
remember, this is a new service, we are not sure of stability.
it gives us only two IP addresses, not the whole LAN.
it is a 2Mbit line to the US, no local route to ac.il or co.il
no local proxy httpd
no local news or anything.
I vote against...
for those of you still interested in testing this service out on your
own, here is a message from the Fidonet mail area I moderate:
LL> I read about the new service 135 - internet access so i tried it,
LL> well at first it worked very fast and good but in the last 2 days
LL> it started to work so slow....
LL> cost: pulse evry 5 min (so if a pulse is 0.26 then it's about 1$ an
LL> houre) 60 min / 5 min = 12 pulse an houre, 12 * .26 =~ 1$ .
LL> open: 24hr DNS: 147.235.250.3 (but 147.235.250.2 works too try it)
LL> TechHelp: 177-022-1400 8:00-22:00 (if you'll call there thay
will halp
LL> you set the programs online).
true. this service is open for all with no extra payment. dial 135 (V.34
in most or all of the country). remember you MUST turn off PPP header
compression, AKA Van Jakobson conpression AKA VJ compression etc! this is
the default setting for all other ISPs, but Bezek's equipment has some
problems with it (My guess is that at least some of their equipment is
based on Xyplex terminal servers, and those have a bug with the header
compression feature.)
on connect you get a TS prompt, type PPP and you are on your way.
charge is a pulse every 5 minutes, no matter what hour of the day (it
does *NOT* get cheaper at night!)
you get *NO* Email address.
you do *not* get news and proxy services.
Bezek has a 2 Mbit (aka E1) to the states (quote from the service center
at 177-022-1400), but no lines to Israeli providers or Machba, which
means Israeli resources are routed all the way through the US...
