The class 1 & 2 refer to fax usage. There's software that needs the modem
to comply with either class1 or class 2. I have seen more software that
requires class 2 compliance. Modems that support both classes are prefered.
As far as I know, the 14400bps modems that use the Rockwell chip support
both classes.
