The GCC manual (man pages) clearly states that "gcc internal error" is due
to either a bug in GCC or faulty hardware - most likely memory.
Since GCC is used daily by millions I would think this should be proof
enough and the hardware people dont have to believe you - they have
R. Stalman's word for it ;-)

If your hardware company gives you trouble over using Linux tell them you
bought them from them a PC and not a windows machine and if they can't
deal with that you will find someone who will and send them the bill.
Of course, it helps if you buy about three machines a month and other
equipment from the same supplier like I do... ;-)
