(letter I wrote to redhat's support, forwarding here, maybe you can guess
what this is...)

after upgrading from 3.0.3 to 4.0 aliased and normal interfaces don't
config well for some reason - I can't ping to them although they were
defined well and routes have been added (same script that defined them
before the upgrade). weird part: I can't ping them from my host, other
hosts see them fine! pinging to one of my interfaces will resault in
"Network unreachable"

I tryed compiling the kernel with various parts of the networking code as
either static bits or modules, with and without version infos, and of
course with the old kernel from before the upgrade (2.0.24) as well as a
completely new compilation (2.0.26).

tech details:

running 3.0.3 updated for 2.0 with 2.0.24 was stable for 5 months,
upgraded to 4.0

Pentium 133, 430VX board, 64 MB memory, 3COM card not in PnP mode
server is a multi-homed webserver, as well as router and firewall (using a
Sangoma FrameRelay Card)

at boot time, when my aliases script (not integrated nicely into the
networking-scripts yet) runs, I get an errorfrom modprobe that it can't
find net-pf-5, and amd complains about "unused interfaces" (not sure about
the exact message, it's not in the syslog :-(

I know this is a little confused, I've been trying to debug this on an off
for the last 30 hours while trying to maintain a semi-working machine and
dealing with the customers, and if I left out imnportant details, forgive
me (it's 2am here... I'm desparate!)

contact me for any extra config files you may need! thanks.
