Meeting: being hot on the trail

#Disclaimer: it's not a 'Meeting minutes', which remains as Marc's prerogative
-:)
#EndDisclaimer

I'll talk mainly about second part of the meeting - COMPUTAX related. The
lectures were nice, but it was a bit conceitedly IMHO to try to cover both
COMPUTAX and something other within short friday session, especially without
Amos's leadership (no smily). Another bad thing - switching to hebrew in the
middle of discussions.
Listen! We are trying to envolve as much people in linux orbit as possible and,
in the same time, tear away a few which are ALREADY among us! (Was that the
instant when we lost Harvey?) So, let's take it as a rule - the official
language of Linux-il meetings will be english. If someone has extra patriotism,
he may redirect it to writing HEBREW FAQ/HOWTO, translating already existing
docs or hacking apps to be bidirectional. (BTW, this topic from agenda, i.e.,
writing documentation, wasn't even touched.)

Now, about COMPUTAX.
We discussed sheduling of the expo, hardware - that's nice. But the apps! It's
better to show nothing, than show linux badly configured or just that which
looks worse than Win95 or whatever box that will be nearby. You'll say 'Linux is
stable' - but the MS representative will say the same! You say: 'Linux is true
multitasking OS' - MS cries 'Win95 is the best multitasking system in the
world!'. You know it (about linux - not MS :)) from your own experience, but
newcomer can take it only by word. So - a lot of NICE APPS WITH GUI, preferably
not in the alpha or even beta stage - should be our slogan, if we don't want to
gain negative results for money and time spent.
As there wasn't another constructive offer for the time being (correct me if I'm
wrong), I'll be impudent enough to suggest my own configuration as a prototype.

Hope, I haven't missed something important

If you want to add something to this list - please mail ME DIRECTLY - and I'll
post summary.

As a result of above mentioned considerations, I think that boxes to be shown
should be brought to some place with fast(==ethernet) internet connection and
software installed and configured beforehand, not at the Ganei Taaruha. Of
course, I'd like this place to be in Weizmann, but it doesn't really matter.

And the last point - is somebody CONCRETE responsible for the
posters/T-shirts/... preparations? Volunteers?

Evgeny

P.S. This is somehow like 'The April theses' - isn't it? -:)
