Speaking of ppp, and TCP/IP information in general. I have found the 
"Linux Network Administration Guide" from the linux doc. project (freely 
available in many FTP sites such as sunsite.unc.edu and mirrors, 
though I'm sure someone can supply the address of a closer site), to 
be of greater value and relevance than the HOWTOs. 
Though, I'm afraid, in case of criptic proublems there's no avoiding the 
criptic HOWTOs.
BTW: Has anybody ever wondered why the cover of the User's Guide is 
written using Arial font while the rest of the book is Time Roman?
