we use that hebrew pine extensively, althought not on a unix box.

it has one problem - very slow hebrew mode (i think it prints out too 
much data on the screen, so scrolling and erasing lines takes too long).

about setting terminal fonts - get the kbd.089 package, and use the 
iso08.16 font (or however it's called) for the linux console.
or use some hebrew fonts for X if you run X.

another note: i think minicom is 7bit, and if that's the case - won't 
work with hebrew (i just guess, i don't really remember).

or run telix (or telemate) undes dosemu :)
