CD-ROMs Under Linux and Plug&Play Sound Card

Hi all,

I have two questions:

1) Do some one uses successfuly Creative CD-ROMs? (x4 speed and so on . .)
   I tried to look for a Sony CD (which I know that it works good);
   it is hard to find one.
   Can some one suggest me a popular CD-ROM drive that works fine under
   Linux? (BTW: I have a Creative SoundBlaster 16 sound Card that can
   support CD).

2) I bought a Creative sound card (SB16) that is a Plug&Play product.
   (There are no Jumpers to set !!!)
   The Linux OS recognizes it only after booting the DOS OS that
   initializes it with the Plug&Play software.
   Is there any equivalent way to initialize the card directly from
   Linux without the need to boot first DOS?

Thank you very much

Ron.
