Re: Yet another Israeli Linux WWW server
Hi all:
1. The new set of howtos, which I have brought tonight from ftp.switch.ch,
is now at http://www.cs.huji.ac.il/misc/linux-howto/
They are all in html. Evgeny is corrently referencing them from his site.
2. I support Amoss's suggestion (although I don't think that there should
be any real objection by anybody), that both WWW sites point to one
another. Furthermore, as I think that Evgeny's site somewhat replaces Macom's
site, I am suggesting (and this is up to Alon), that Macom relinquish
thier site and point to Evgeny's.
> A more important question - is the Technion's copy REGULARLY UPDATED?
3. Which reminds me - the howtos I have set up are up to date NOW, but there
is no arrangement for automatically copying them when updated. So, if
someone notices that these howtos need replacement, please email me
(or webmaster@cs.huji.ac.il) and remind us to update them. I think that
updating them once in 1-2 monthes would be enough.

4. I hope that CS HUJI would be able to put the up to date slackware
as well as several utils and docs on ftp.huji. This is not final, and
when it will be done it would only consist of a partial mirror of the CD
set which everyone would be able to loan, but it would be an accurate
mirror and sufficient for the big stuff. Again - not final. More details
on this when I announce the availablity of the CD.

5. No such problem, thanks. Evgeny says that everything works just fine,
and I noticed that there are no site-specific URLs in the howtos.
6. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Shay Rojansky, who
has put the slackware diskettes we have on his BBS. This now means
that everyone in Israel, regardless of thier level of Internet
connectivity, can download and install slackware. The version on the
BBS is somewhat old now, but I will make the CD available to Shay so he
can put the up to date version there soon. Again, his number is
02-435-176 and the name of the BBS (unless I am mistaken) is
The NOS BBS.
7. About the diskettes - If anyone can volunteer to copy some of the
slackware distribution from the CD to the diskettes which we already have,
I would be gratefull. The distribution version on the CD is 2.0.2 (unless
I am mistaken), and on the diskettes currently 1.2.
8. I hope that CS HUJI will donate the rest of the diskettes soon (so
far we only have 50 of the 100), but I am not sure how necessary that
is. Any comments?
9. Technical matters - as those of you who are not online tonight will
probably notice, 3 or 4 of the letters tonight were not intended to the
list, but were sent to the list because the sender "replied", but thought
it will be mailed to the authors. Can the manager change the reply-to
header, or remove it? Please do. It will decrease the amount of junk.
Also, as I sent several messages tonight, I have received errors about
users who are not on the list etc. Can the manager look into that?
Regards,
And good night to all,
Ariel
