Re: Responsibilities and issues regarding amuta status.
In view of Harvey J. Stein's comments about the possible political and
corruptional impacts of organizing an amuta, how about formalizing the
following alternate proposal which we have been using informally so far:
Have 3-4 businesses (probably osekim murshim) volunteer to act as business
fronts for the group. They will be responsible for collecting money,
issuing receipts (their regular business receipts) and spending the
collected money on activities agreed upon by the group. They will account
for the incoming and outgoing money. For each project (a show or
whatever), we'll choose another front business (except that we'll need a
single and reputable volunteer for all consignation type deals).
To make all this work, we'll need to work out some system of guarantees
and accountability so that the participants will be able to feel confident
depositing money with the volunteers without the volunteers just
disappear with their money. And on the other hand, to let the volunteers
finance the participation in the various shows without being forced to
donate much larger amounts of money they'd be willing to otherwise.
