Kernel never does it. In slakware, it's /etc/rc.d/rc.cdrom's job. You can safely
remove that script.

Do it like that: `mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/hdb /cdrom' . If you add line
/dev/hdb   /cdrom    iso9660    noauto,ro  0   0 

to /etc/fstab, you'd mount it as simple as `mount /cdrom'
