Guy,
I have a LOT of experience with Solaris on Sparc, and also
experience with Solaris on x86.
Answer 1 - SunOS4 is BSD system (pure BSD I think), while
SunOS5 is SVR4 - licensed sources of SVR4.0 from USL. If you
want to be more specific on either user, sysadm or programmer
level - tell me.
Answer 2 - SunOS 5.0 is almost inexistent, SunOS 5.1 can be con-
sidered beta, SunOS 5.2 is stable but slow, 5.3 is stable and
fast, but some critical bugs must be patched with Sun mandatory
patches. On lowe end (Classic, LX) 5.3 is more stable than on
high end (SS10, Sparc Center etc.)
Current releases are 5.1 for x86 and 5.3 for Sparc. 5.4 (syn-
chrionized) is expected in August, and it will include Motif
environment, COSE environment expected ater this year.
