I have the same problem. My card is ATI Graphics Xpression w/ 2Mb 
DRAM. My understanding is that current Xservers still don't support 
some MACH64 chips, notably CT, ET, VT & GT. This fits my case (CT).

I've checked the XAcellerated Demo & it works fine (for 10 minutes, as 
declared by the Demo).

I've checked only X 3.1.2, maybe 3.1.2E (or later) already support it.
