Hello,

I asked a friend, who uses the same ISP as mine, and connects under
Linux, with a 28k modem (even the modem is the same as mine), and he
said he usually gets 3kb/sec when connecting and transferring.
I hardly get 3kb/sec ever, even when transferring to/from the local
 machine (the ISP machine).
What could be the reason for such a difference?
  I have a 486dx/33 with 8mb ram, whereas he has a pentium with 16mb
of ram. could that be a reason for such a difference?
My uptime shows a lower than 1 load-average.
My kernel version is 1.3.66 (though the situation was the same with
 earlier versions).
