I have Pioneer CDROM which is Atapi/IDE too. At first I have had a lots
of problems making it works under linux. It was also working fine under Dos
After reading the linux newsgroups I have found a few suggestions...
So, first, check the jumpers on your cdrom , try to switch it to "slave"
mode (your HD is a "master").
Second, the previous kernel releases don't support many new CD-Rom drive
configurations, so try to install newer release of kernel. I run 1.3.20
and it works great (be warned it's from 1.3.* alpha release, which is not
supposed to be clean of bugs :-) , but I'm not sure 1.2.13 the latest
"working" version will solve your problem !)
I hope it will help,
If not -- try to post to world's linux newsgroups, there are more chances
that someone outthere have the same piece of hardware you have...

Good Luck!
