In order to use more than 256 colors in CL cards you must use
linear addressing (that means all video memory is mapped at some
address, rather than 64k at a time).
CL cards usually can map to 14M, 64M or 78M.
In order to move the Xserver to use linear addressing, you have
to change/add two settings in XF86Config.
I am not at my computer now, but if you browse the demo file that
is contained in the distributions, those settings are explained.
Note, that if your card can only map to 14M, and you have more then
that in system memory, you can't use linear addressing. But that
is a problem of VLB cards usually.
