LIP General issues
I guess that mostly Haifa people read the postings about LIP in Haifa,
Others may ignore them by the subject. Am I wrong?
But, We discuss I believe important issues for all LIPs. So please take a
look at them if you have a spare minute.
Up to now we have several issues in discuss:
1. The Linux T-shirt, tags:
We need something to be different at LIP, so people will know who's guru
and who's not. So we need to make some T-shirts, Name-tags, Hats something
(Relevant to any LIP)
2. Pre-meetings:
Do we need to get together, before the party and to do some organisation?
3. Internet connection, NFS:
People don't have ethernet card mostly ?! NFS, What is good for? Any way
you have to open the box, plug HD, so why don't you just copy the
contents of HD.
4. HD->HD copy:
What if I prepare a HD with a very general linux installed, and just
do a repartitioning on a new HD, and copy the ready HD. No need to update
fstab, lilo ? Only Xconfig to change. I believe it's faster then full
install proccess?
If it's good what is the fastest way to copy HD->HD (and Preserve all
permissions and sym links) someting:
cd / ; tar -cf - | tar -xf - newtarget (I din't find in tar's man page
how do I specify the target dir, It's not -C!)
How to avoid the recursive copying of the HD mounted under /mnt?
5. Set of Dos utils:
What utils we should prepare to repartition the disk: fips, fdisk,
format, scandisk, (defrag<->scandisk any difference?)
If it's Win95 we need special utils with DOS7.0 to read Vfat?
(Read: other set of defrag, fdisk?)
6. How one brings its PC:
Is't acceptable to bring only HD? A lot of chances of HW incompatability?
Only the box? So you can't config X?
I think enough issues for now...
