sendmail - wait long time on boot

When sendmail is activated on Linux boot process, it pauses for
about a minute or two, before boot process is continued.

This happens on my new installed official RedHat and never on
the Slackwares I had. I don't want to remove sendmail from boot,
because it would be needed, when connected through dial ups.

Is it just a network connection timeout, or a default hardware which
does not exit maybe ?

Thanks,
Shlomo.
