Linux - Novell + Pegasus +Mercury

Howdy Everybody!

I am in the midst of final plans for using Pegasus and Mercury to handle my
mail on a Linux box.

Here is the scenario.

1) Linux box with sendmail and deliver on it, hooked thru a CISCO 2501 router
on a 64K frame-Relay line to my Internet Provider.
I have my own domain, and handle all my own mail. Anything not local is
done on my providers machine - he has the DNS server.

2) Connected to all this are 40 machines half DOS half windows, all on a
Novell 3.12 network. I can telnet / browse/ FTP freely into and out of
Linux machine and everything is almost hunky-Dory ;-)

3) I need a good mail solution for my "dumb" users. This means an easy way of
sending and retreiving mail from DOS/Windows. This includes
sending Word 6 docs, attached zipped files and whatever.

I want to make it as easy as possible. I use Pine off the Linux and am quite happy, but it is not convenient because all attached files first have to be transferred to the Linux machine somehow. I have found some new terminal programs that support auto
ic Zmodem transfers to the unix box from windows, and I'll be testing them instead of regular telnet, but this may still not solve all my problems.

I would much prefer that all the mail be handled by Pegasus, so that a single
mail call on login to Novell will automatically show what is waiting,
and the users will not have to fool around with the Linux machine at all.

I have not finished reading all the Mercury documentation, but it appears I
may need to set up a POP server on the Linux machine. Is this correct ?
I would like mercury to transfer all mail on the Linux to the Novell Server
for Pegasus to handle. This also seems more secure, since I have not
run SATAN against my Linux server yet.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this, or similar.
In addition, I am looking into automatic mail notification in realtime - As
soon as mail arrives there is some kind of alarm or pop up dialog box.
WinBIFF looks to be a good answer for Windoze, Since DOS is NOT really a
multitasker, I guess the mail check program will have to be done manually.

Any suggestions - samples of config files etc would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Mike
