Hi.
As far as I know, Linux has no problem supporting EIDE (as long
as you have a progressive Linux installed). Make sure the BIOS
supports it well (not an old computer with a new EIDE adapter),
since then you would have problem with disk managers, and the
IDE 512MB limit.
