You need pppd version 2.2.0e. If you're running as a server, compile your 
kernel with IP-Forwarding/Gatewaying and Multicasting enabled.

You also need a new version of procps, ver 0.99 I think.

And a new version of Make... 

Check out the file Documentation/Changes inside the kernel-source tree 
(ie, if your kernel sources are in /usr/src/linux, check 
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/Changes), it will tell you all you need to 
know and where to get it.
