Indeed on computers with old BIOS (without LBA) DOS and Win3.1 cannot 
use more that 520Mb of disk (I dunno about Win95, may be it can handle it).

So, solutions are:

  * give to DOS/Win3.1/Win95/WinWhatEver 520Mb (without Disk Manager) 
    and the rest to Linux
  
  * if you still want more disk space for DOS, install Disk Manager
    and use new kernels (pre2.0.x, 2.0.x works fine with DM, 1.3.x claims
    to have "transparent DM support" but it doesn't work).
    Take Debian 1.1 based on 2.0.0 kernel as well as coming soon Slackware'96.
