You can trust your users to break in and get the root password. That is 
unless one of the following:

1. You stay on top of security news and monitor every user keystroke;
2. You have dumb users;
3. You have no users.

Patches come out every so often who deal with new problems discovered. 
Stay tuned to the linux security mailing lists (127.0.0.1 FM) and install 
all patches.
