getty_ps solution

Hi!

Ok, finally my getty seems to work as it should.
So here's what happened:

Problem one: Timeout ten times too fast (TIMEOUT=60 would give
timeout after 6 seconds).

Solved by rebuilding uugetty or the kernel or both.

Problem two: uugetty would lock my modem not allowing use of it to
any other program.

Solved by adding INITLINE to the uugetty.ttySx file. This directive
is not documented anywhere outside of the sample file which comes
with the getty_ps original package (it's not in the man pages and
my slackware included sample default files without this directive).
On the sample file my problem was clearly documented, it was stated
that when using WAITFOR the INITLINE directive must be used or the
modem would not be accesible to other programs. In the end however I
set the modem for autoanswer and didn't use waitfor (see bellow).

Problem three: Waitfor would not recognize RING.

Bad modem initialization. Solved by at&f2 instead of atz0 on a USR
courrier. I'll burn the atz0 template sometime.

Well that's it now everything works fine except for a new problem:

Whenever I use WAITFOR, chat brakes and I can't use my ppp script,
this happens even when WAITFOR (which also uses chat) and chat are
not expecting the same string. I gave up on this one and set my modem
to autoanswer without using WAITFOR. Anyone knows anything about
this?

Feew who would have believed of all the programs getty_ps would be
the one to give me more trouble.
