Maybe fater than an FTP which opens a connection per-file.  But in
general, I'd expect a TCP connection to beat NFS (e.g. the "rsh"
aproach I proposed).

Would love to see the results of such an experiment.  At least back on
SGI's and Sun's over Ethernet at HUJI-CS, NFS was about an order of
magnitude slower than "tar | rsh tar" but there I wasn't alone on the
net.
