Display problems
Hi all,
I've had slackware 2.3 (kernel 1.2.8) installed for quite a while and
everything was nice and smooth.
I recently added a 1G scsi HD, and installed on it slackware 3.0 (kernel
1.2.13), while still maintaining the older installation on the IDE drive.
All the configuration files seem identical, and yet I have strange display
problems with the newer version:
1. The palette corrupts very often when using svgalib or switching between
console and X. This problem has been observed before, with the older system, but
was rare. Now it happens ALL THE TIME!
2. peculiar and nagging - Midnight Commander absolutely refuses to work in
color. -c switch doesn't make any difference, nor does a forced color
definition in the .mc.ini file. The mc display is also corrupted in xterm.
I think the problem is with one of the config. files, because the root
filesystem turns out to be the crucial factor - old binaries malfunction under
new root fs, new binaries and kernel function well under old fs. However, I
didn't find anything that seemed abnormal, which means I'm looking in the wrong
places ;-)
Any idea where to look for the problem will be appreciated.
I have no idea what excerpts are needed for better understanding of the
problem, and didn't want to pile junk here. Please tell me what info is needed
for a diagnosis.
Basic hardware info:
486DX4/100
AcerView 34TL Monitor
Cirrus Logic 5429 VLB
Thanks in advance for any hints.
