In light of the many inquiries I recieved concerning the Frame-Relay card
I use in my server I decided to start importing suchproducts, probably
also on a regular basis if enough people are interested. First batch will
be all preordered, until I see if there are enough interested parties.
Please send me Email privately (not throught the CC:ed list on top!) if
you want to be on the list - I will be making the first order in two days.
The cards will cost $799 plus V.A.T. (with my tax invoice - Cheshbonit
Mas).
The cards in question are capable of speeds of 64k to an E1 (2 mb), made
by Sangoma (www.sangoma.com) and have drivers for Linux, PC-based Unices
in general, WinNT, Win95, OS/2, Netware and even MS-DOS. Will route or
bridge IP, IPX and most of any other protocols that are supported by the
server (SNA on Netware SAA for instance).
These V.35 cards basicly support HDLC plus layers, and can work on
Sifranet lines (never tested personally) and X.25 lines (costs extra,
email me for details).
Why a card and not a router?
Simply, the card is MUCH cheaper ($799 opposed to a $1500-$2500
basic router), and easely upgradable (firmware is easely updated to add
features, debug or add protocols). Sangoma will soon support the new
standard for SVC on Frame Relay (then we'll wait for Bezeq to follow :)
Moreover, a card in the web server means one hop less, and that's 3-4 and
sometimes even 20ms saved over router response times, and less traffic on
the LAN. A card in the corporate firewall has also obvious advantages,
both technical and economical - less hops, no packet tezing, etc.
