Hello,

(This issue might be on the fringe of the Linux issue but it is
 concern a free GUI toolkit and the concepts of writing software so
 here it is :-). )

I strongly suggest using Tk/Tcl for writing the GUI.
It is very easy to build a GUI with Tk/Tcl and you get side benefits
like a scripting language and customizable GUI.

Tk/Tcl is becoming a GUI standard used by major commercial vendors
and it is available for both Windows and Unix platforms.
