Well, I'm not sure about that.  You gotta figure there's also gonna be
some other stuff hapenning on the machine (didn't the original guy say
something about a web server?)

As I said, those were 9600 modems, so DTE speeds of 38400.  And those were
shell sessions, BTW, running a custom menu-driven type interface, so I'd
expect PPP to be even easier on the system load.  Especially if you don't
allow local stuff to happen (i.e., the machine is *ONLY* used to route
outgoing connection, no local telnets or ftps that will get the hard drive
spinning).
