Re: Linux installation problem
--- Marc A. Volovic (marc@cs.huji.ac.il) ---
Bloody Hell! Someone with enough ability to include enough information.
I suspect one of two things:
1. Either you installed a stock Linux kernel as supplied by
Slackware (i.e. from set A) and not bothered to compile
your own version (I suggest you do).
2. Something's really fishy!
In all cases, setting the CD-ROM to "Master" is good enough. You need
CD-ROM
support, iso9660 support (which you _do_ have) and possibly a device
file (/dev/cdrom or something).
Do `dmesg` and see if BOTH ide interfaces are _detected_. If they are, then
you need CD-ROM support in the kernel or as a module - roll a kernel.
----------------------
I already tried recompiling the Kernel for IDE/ATAPI & iso9660 support, but
got a kernel which gives me the same 'sum' output as the one I used before.
When it boots, I see no messages for ide1, which I suspect is the problem.
Does anybody know how stable is the 1.3.1 kernel source distribbuted
w/Slackware 3.0? Its IDE/ATAPI sources say they have made some corrections to
this section...
TIA,
