Hi,
It's hard to call it "involved", but in the recent ISDN expo I got in
touch with someone who imports ISDN cards with drivers for Linux and
who asked me to check reports from Europe and N.A. that they work with
Linux. I have yet to find time to get back to him so now that there is
interest I might do that earlier. I think his business card said
"Citycom". The cards cost something at the vicinity of 300$.
|The tricky point about ISDN in Israel is not finding the card and the driver
|for linux - that can be, at most, imported from the US - but installing the
|Bezeq line (is you area covered?) and finding some one to connect to; The only
|commercial provider I am aware of that allows ISDN dial-ins is Netvision, whic
|h
|charges $300 for 20 hours monthly, $7 for each additional hour, and $400 for
|installation. There have been unconfirmed roumers that new service providers
|may come in to the market and offer ISDN dial in at competitive rates. Do you
|have anyone to connect to or just vague promises?
|Otherwise, it's worth waiting 3 monthes until the situation clears up.
Installation of ISDN lines should be available in the central areas,
with the rest of the country covered by the end of '96. Monthly
charges from bezeq are 40 NIS a month, bezeq usage charging like
normal lines (I must say I was VERY impressed by these policies!)
On the other hand, Bezeq have a very small unit for ISDN, so the queue
is very long and businesses get the lines before private users,
hopefully this will change during the next year, based on Kaul's
decleration that he expects ISDN lines to be installed and used like
normal lines are used today.
Two general notes -
1. It looks like my account at HUJI CS is about to be closed so I
will unsubscribe from Linux-Il during the next two weeks and will
be available at amoss@leonardo.ls.huji.ac.il
2. My name is spelled "Amos", with one "s" :)
