summer vacation

Hi guys:

I'll be away this summer. This means I won't be able to maintain the archives
and services for the next 2 monthes. I have left instructions to set up an
automatic mirror for the slackware distributin, in case it gets updated,
and for the kernel directory. The mirroring will be done from ftp.switch.ch,
which is faster for us than sunsite.unc.edu, and this means that there will
be a delay of about two days between the release time and the availability
time. If this works out all right, and I have some space left, I will also
set up an automatic mirror for the system/Network subdir.

I am willing to consider suggestions as to other parts to mirror. Disk
space considerations limit me to maximum 500 MB of mirror, and bandwidth
considerations limit me to maintaining an automatic mirror for only specific
parts and not everything. As sunsite is growing (it's about 600 MB
currently), I can't mirror it all anyway. If I see there is enough
deman for a certain sunsite subdir (and don't ask for things like 'apps',
because that's around 150 MB if my memory serves me right) I will add
it to the automatic mirror.

About the diskette loaning - there's a bit of a mess, but maybe I can organize
it before I leave (tough chance). We have 100 diskttes, with two copies
of the main slackware sets and one copy of other sets. We also
have a subscription for the CDs, which we lend out. All together, this
makes about 3 loaning sets, which are constantly borrowed out (at
about 1 week per borrower). We may also add the minilinux distribution
to the loaning stock, if I can scrape out the 4 diskettes, labels,
and an hour to make them. (This has been a short report about the quiet
activity of our loaning library, as I didn't get a chance to mail about
it before).

As for me, I will be at the right end of the international line this
summer in NY. Good luck to those of you who have tests, have a nice
time to those of you who are going on vacation. Shay and I hope to report
about the advances in our project during the next meeting, which will
take place (as history shows) at the beginning of the next scholarly year.

Regards,
Ariel
