Yeh. And nor do TCP packets consisting SMTP commands and data travel in a
linear fashion. I've experienced some similer problems in the last 12
hours or so, I believe there was a problem with a couple of MACHBA
routers (I know for instense that the Technion replaced one of their
routers just this afternoon) and another MACHBA institute I'm connected 
through also had problems but it seems things are back to normal now. Let
me know if the problem persist.
