I agree with this point of view, which is followed also by the deafness
related information web site which I maintain.

You should be receptive to any feedback which you get, rather than limit
it to prescribed items. The guy didn't childishly flame your site.
What you can do is to explain that you disagree with specific points the
guy made and why (as you did about the animated GIFs and Java applets
suggestion).
