Linux-il hosting of web/ftp site
Hi.
This message is on behalf of both Shay and myself.
We have thought about the idea of cooperating with TclTek in
regard with inet services. We came to several conclusions.
1. The domain linux.org.il should be registered to Linux-il. Since
we have no official standing, we must become an amuta, which is
what we have been thinking of since the first meeting. The name
linux.org.il cannot be in commercial hands.
2. The DNS for linux.org.il also must be in common hands. We propose
that the primary DNS be at Ira's, if he agrees. We also propose
to host another primary or a secondary DNS.
3. Up to now, the CS HUJI majordomo server has performed well, in
our opinion. There is no reason to move it, especially since I
can easily maintain it. We propose to have an mx record for the
domain so we would be easily able to move the mailing list without
changing the email address if the need arises.
4. Concerning the Web and FTP servers, we think it's a good idea to
host them at TclTek. This would enable us to feature "commercials"
(for CDs, shows, etc.), and would provide valuable disk space for
the FTP site. We think that a sunsite mirror is what we lack at
this moment in Israel. The Web site would also provide extra incentive
for a company to host us.
5. Accept the 50 bucks. Why not, it's green.
So, the first thing to do regardless of TclTek is to register as an amuta.
Since this is a serious enough matter, we propose that a vote be held.
Please send personal emails to Shay (roji@cs.huji.ac.il) with either a yes
or a no.
Share your thoughts about this dreadfully long post.
