Hello to you all ,
I have to say a few words to clear some things up here ,
our debate about X and windows is not about the application
but is about the the enviroment. (GUI flexability and so ...).
when people wrote tcp/ip protocols (and OSI standards) they wrote it
in the layre concept, DO YOU KNOW WHY ?
I will not explain here the reason for the saperate modouls, but just
that it gives a huge flexability of the product .
I would like to say that I agree with every word said about how it is
hard to study X system and How it is hard to start program it and its
GUI.
BUT - (and there is allways a BUT) - We sohuld remember who we are ,
and we are system administrators , programers and advenced users ,
some of us are GURUS and others are WIZARDS , as some of us are newbies.
Is SIMPLE is what we are looking for ?
Is that is how we choose our enviroment ?
When I design a network - I do it with POWER , when I design a GUI i like
to do it with NO LIMITS. windows 3.x HAS ITS LIMITS .
95 - is better then the 3.x but still it misses the pwoer that X gives us by
beeing so flexiable .
it cost me preformance - I KNOW !
GOOD THINGS DO COST SOMHTING.
It is not a question of Which is better , and this is where I was WRONG .
It is a question of what will I need , and what does the application need.
USING X makes it easy on a multi platform enviromant , while using MS-WIN ,
makes it easy on the programer. and that is IT !
SHABAT SHALOM !
