HP graciously declines...
I finally got in touch with the guy at HP in charge of the COMPUTAX
show. He said that although he's interested in any useful application
that runs on his PCs, he couldn't really just install a piece of
software that he's unfamiliar with and exhibit it at the show.
The good news is that he was interested in learning more about Linux.
If we can demo it to him, and show him that it's a useful tool to have
around (maybe by ease of internet connectivity, or file serving to WFW
junk, or whatever), then he might demo a PC running Linux at future
shows.
So, if anyone:
1. has a recent Linux distribution on CD,
2. is sufficiently experienced with the CD that he could just walk
up to a random PC and get Linux+X+networking up and running,
3. is facile with enough interesting Linux software that he could
demo Linux+X+networking & generate alot of interest, and
4. is interested in going over to HP in Tel Aviv & doing all the
above,
then drop me some email, and I'll get you in touch with HP to arrange
a meeting.
If I'm lucky, I might be able to come along for the demo to help round
out the experience (I think I could fit points 3+4 - I can't fit 1+2
because I never installed linux from a CD).
I'd also suggest people going out to any hardware vendors they have
contact with and arranging to do the above. I'd think that hardware
vendors who exhibit at these shows would always be looking for new and
interesting software to run at the shows. If we can get vendors
interested in Linux, then Linux will be demoed at the shows.
