more lip noise..

1. i think there were around 15+- installations. they last one ended at
   about 23:00.

2. the HD->HD install didn't go so smooth - they messed up with getting it
started, probably it went smooth AFTER the first stage.

3. there were about 3-4 people who didn't bring any hardware, but rather
asked questions and wrote some notes to see how to install at home.

4. one came with an installed linux, and needed help with configuring
things (his mouse didn't work, for example). we need to take that into
   consideration.

5. there were more ILUG people then required, so some simply left shortly
   after they arrived.

6. why didnt' anyone say redhat is a sys-V installation? at least i
spent some time reading rc sources in order to find out how to disable
loading of sendmail, http servers and the like.

7. i tried showing people what's in /usr/doc/ and /usr/doc/HOWTO/, and
   pointed them to read it..

8. next time we should tell people to bring at least 3 empty pre-formatted
floppies: one to install lilo (in case they later install/reinstall
win95 and have their lilo gone), and one or two for a rescue disk (we
copied the slackware boot/root floppies on two floppies for a few
people as a set of rescue diskettes). is there a way to prepare a
redhat-specific rescue diskette easily? couldn't find any.

9. IMHO: a short initial "lecture" about the installation process would be
in place. the first 'wave' of people knew not what a partition is and
found it grasp to understand this.. a 15 minutes pre-lecture would
help, and can be carried out 2-3 times (one for the early-risers, one
for the bulk of people, one for the late people).

10. next time, tell people "do your best to bring the screen and keyboard
too. we can only supply a few extra screens. the mouse MUST be brought
if you want it to work".

11. at least some of the people brought their monitor/screen card books so
they got X configured as well. Those who didn't - i don't know. and it
was possible to run their X in a low resolution mode on a 'low end'
    screen, without endangering(??) the screen.

12. next time - do it on friday...please?

at least tables, cables and chairs - there were many of.

and last, it looked indeed like a party - when i came in the seccond time
i so about 20 people standing in front of 4 computers, there was noise,
music (from the nearby t.v.), and even the drinks machines supplied
cans at only 1.70 NIS each..
