Re: Micronics MB/P5-100MHz
Enclosed is the data for the Micronics MB I bought:
The model I have is a M54Hi PCI/ISA. It has the following
characteristics:
1. Support for 75Mhz, 90Mhz, 100MHz and 120MHz P5's.
(Personal notes: 75MHz CPU's have 50MHz bus frequency, 90MHz and 120MHz
have 60MHz bus frequency and 100MHz has a 66MHz bus frequency).
2. 4 SIMM slots (i.e. up to 128Megs). EDO supported.
3. 256Kilo cache, expandable to 512Kilo. The cache can be Pipelined Burst,
if it's 256Kilos.
4. PCI EIDE (4 drives, 2 floppies - supports 2.88KB), 16550*2, 1*EPP.
5. 3*PCI slots, 3*ISA slots, 1*shared PCI/ISA slot (additional).
6. Flash BIOS.
7. No RZ10000 IDE controller.
8. Triton chipset.
VERY FEW JUMPERS compared to the horrid 486DX-100 MB I just installed
for a friend.
Requires 70ns SIMMS, but I felt more comfy with 60ns.
The MB has Phoenix BIOS with Green support (if anyone is nutters enough to
want it).
My board is currently populated thus:
PCI GPT 2MB VRAM
ISA AHA1542CF (floopy disabled).
ISA NE2000
ISA Sound Blaster
on-board floopies, serials and parallel.
The 1542CF carries four disks, a tape and a CD-ROM. One of the disks is
a dedicated DOS drive (80MB of SCSI-1 drek), the rest is Linux.
I have no complaints of the motherboard. It is well built and installed
in my rather non-standard box very easily (I have a full tower).
There are two primary complaints, which are not major, but could
hurt some people:
1. The SIMM slots are opposite the ISA slots and could
preclude installing a full length card.
2. The CPU is opposite the PCI slots. This is a lot less
major since most PCI cards are short.
The documentation recieved with the board is the best I ever saw on a
motherboard and contained only one error (dip switch missing from
motherboard drawing).
I bought my MB from Mediatek:
Mediatek (Ben Gurion 19, Bnei Brak): 03-618-2499.
CAVEAT: I am a LONG-TIME friend of Mediatek's chief tech. Thus, while
I am not associated with the company, I am well known there
and know it well. It has given me superb service and will, I
hope, continue doing so.
Cheerio!
