Are you using the correct version of loadkeys for your kernel? Why
not avoid the problem entirely by doing Hebrew in X?

Sure. I'll take it.

Maybe the wrong version of ispell. There was a rogue version around
for awhile which didn't interact with calling programs in the same way
as the older (and newer versions) do.
