16550 don't support Synchronous nor V.35 communication, period.

not precise. the sync PPP will come with the hardware you'll buy. that
could be a router, or the Frame-Relay/Sifranet cards I sell (which support
SyncPPP). Such a card costs $725, and supports linux, Netware, win95, NT
and more, so you can switch OSs and stay connected...
