I have a TEAC X4 cdrom which sits two in the SB slot, and although it
took me a *long* time to get it working its now ok.
You should edit very carefuly the file /usr/src/linux/include/linux/sbpcd.h
esp. pay attantion to where it says:
" #define MAX_DRIVES 1"
make sure it is a 1! becuase with my slackware it was a 4 and it took me
3 months to figure out that this is whats messing it up (it shouldn't
really make a difference, but it does). also edit the rest of the file to
meet your needs, and recompile the kernel.

Good luck.
