Re: 486-100/16mb. linux is slow

Of my experience - with my vanishing dinosaur 486-Dx33, 8MB RAM -

(*) Swap files are nice for testing Linux, but performance is much slower.

(*) Better reparation the disk once you're at the beginning of Linux, than
    later when your system is full and configured.

(*) The best gain in performance for me was to use the swap space on a different
    disk (even though it is a slower disk than the main one). By this you
    avoid the annoying "scratching-screaming disk sound".

(*) The X performance is fair, it gets slooowwwer when I fill up the
    8MB, but - you have 16, and DX4 - it should make the difference.
