Hey guys! Checkpoint are porting FireWall-1 to Linux! YESH!!! :-)

yes, bridging is done at kernel level, as well as firewalling, and AFAIK,
there are various way to configure it. I suppose a good place to start
reading about it is the linux firewalling FAQ at
http://www.cs.huji.ac.il/papers/mdw/HOWTO/Firewall-HOWTO.html

Linux networking:
http://www.uk.linux.org/NetNews.html

http://www.mazama.com/ Mazama makes IP packet filters/Firewalls for linux.

and I believe that TIS also works on Linux.
