|1. i think there were around 15+- installations. they last one ended at
| about 23:00.

It's 2-1 so far for around 20 vs. around 40.

|4. one came with an installed linux, and needed help with configuring
| things (his mouse didn't work, for example). we need to take that into
| consideration.

What should be done about that?

|5. there were more ILUG people then required, so some simply left shortly
| after they arrived.

Probably due to lack of screens, so not many computers could be
functional at the same time?

|6. why didnt' anyone say redhat is a sys-V installation? at least i
| spent some time reading rc sources in order to find out how to disable
| loading of sendmail, http servers and the like.

I suspect this is part of the FSSTND, isn't it? Besides, that confirms
my suggestion that the "gurus" will learn the system beforehand.

|7. i tried showing people what's in /usr/doc/ and /usr/doc/HOWTO/, and
| pointed them to read it..

What about "man man" and the emacs info files?

|8. next time we should tell people to bring at least 3 empty pre-formatted
| floppies: one to install lilo (in case they later install/reinstall
| win95 and have their lilo gone), and one or two for a rescue disk (we
| copied the slackware boot/root floppies on two floppies for a few
| people as a set of rescue diskettes). is there a way to prepare a
| redhat-specific rescue diskette easily? couldn't find any.

This is part of my list, as far as I remember.

|9. IMHO: a short initial "lecture" about the installation process would be
| in place. the first 'wave' of people knew not what a partition is and
| found it grasp to understand this.. a 15 minutes pre-lecture would
| help, and can be carried out 2-3 times (one for the early-risers, one
| for the bulk of people, one for the late people).

It was one of the first ideas to come up, it simply never fitted in
when the party/meeting actually began. If you find a way to do it
then I agree it will help a lot.

|11. at least some of the people brought their monitor/screen card books so
| they got X configured as well. Those who didn't - i don't know. and it
| was possible to run their X in a low resolution mode on a 'low end'
| screen, without endangering(??) the screen.

My list contains a list of things which people should be asked to bring.

Sounds like my list have been ignored and some conclusions in it could
have been applied here too.
