Two questions

1- Can I make a module (specifically aic7xxx.o) not unload automatically
after being loaded by kerneld?

2- When I upgraded the kernel from 1.2.13 to 2.0.0, I removed update
from the startup scripts, since I read somwhere (can't remmember where,
and can't find it again) that the functionality of update is now in the
kernel (in kflushd), and it is dangerous to run update with this version.
when I run ps as root I see a process called (kflushd).

But, I wrote a tex file, using xlatex and xjed, and also viewed it using
xdvi, when suddenly the elctric current stopped ('Hafsakat Hashmal').
This came about after 30 minutes of working on the file.

When I booted later, e2fsck found no errors, but the files were gone.
There was no sign of any one of the 5 files.

My question is should I run update (bdflush), even with version 2.0.*
of the kernel?
