To: All Linux administrators
Initiated from the 'Linux Mission Critical Systems' mailing list is a
project to document successful existing systems which have a large
load and are up 24 hrs/day.
Our intention is that the compiled document should:
o be a reference of great Linux systems and their administrators o
help convince those who don't know about Linux o give people
an(other) incentive to use Linux
Linux is the forebode of a new age of computing where complete
software systems equal and often surpass the quality of commercial
alternatives can be developed through an effort of a large community
of volunteers. In fact we are at an exciting point in history where
humans, geographically and culturally separated, work succesfully on a
spontaneous global advance of technology. The combination of these
facts is rather unique.
We would like you to share your experiences with us as a tribute to
all those volunteers who made Linux what it is now. If you are using
Linux in a critical environment you will help others by answering our
questionnaire.
Please fill in the form even if your system has to remain
anonymous. In question one you can check the data you wish to keep
confidential. In that case we will treat your data as such and will
use it for statistical purposes only. Still, it is far preferable if
we can use the data without restraints. You can answer the form in
such a way that it won't endanger your companies' or your integrity.
The first part of the questionnaire will be processed by computer and
will end up as statistics mostly. The second part consists of open
questions and may be incorporated in a Linux public document. We will
treat information regarding you, your E-mail address and the name of
your system as confidential. That is, we will not pass it on without
your consent.
The survey will end February 1st, 1997.
We thank you for contributing and giving support to Linux!
We suggest you use the WWW version of the questionnaire. Available,
for example, at:
http://www.rmnet.it/linux
http://www.linux.or.jp/~mkubo/mc-doc
http://www.iijnet.or.jp/src/mc-doc
http://tcx.kappa.ro/mc-doc
You can download the questionnaire and fill it in off-line! Processing
the WWW version is much easier for us. Remember this work is being
done by volunteers.
We are looking for a mirror site on the USA backbone. Please contact
us for more information. Also we would appreciate you forwarding this
message to mailing lists and individuals of interest.
