ok, all you experts... this has NOTHING to do with me! my server is fine,
but iix is buggy!
look!
48 /home/ira> ping www.yahoo.com
PING www11.yahoo.com (205.216.146.105): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 205.216.146.105: icmp_seq=0 ttl=248 time=933.7 ms

64 bytes from 205.216.146.105: icmp_seq=5 ttl=248 time=745.2 ms
My links abroad are all perfect, smooth, pink and froody.
Yet inside the country (this is in fact a ping I just did, stardate
9607231613) the iix kills packets:
51 /home/ira> ping cs.huji.ac.il
PING cs.huji.ac.il (132.65.16.10): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 132.65.16.10: icmp_seq=1 ttl=249 time=129.1 ms

64 bytes from 132.65.16.10: icmp_seq=42 ttl=249 time=174.4 ms
--- cs.huji.ac.il ping statistics ---
43 packets transmitted, 9 packets received, 79% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 125.8/174.9/334.6 ms
(these are REAL figures! the names have not been change, as no one is
innocent so there's no one to protect!)
Obviously, sendmail has good reasons to try and resend a few times, I
suppose cs.huji's mailer accepted the message in one of the attempts, but
the confirmation didn't reach my sendmail to it tryed again...
Shlomi Zohar (hi there!) of Euronet promised me Yehavi (of huji, for those
who know him), will arrange this with the IIX... it's a known bug.
I can't use http or FTP or even send mail properly through the iix, but
worse: I am an IPP which the Israeli audiance can't see :-(
to sum up: it has been 10 days since the iix started eating up congested
packets. I am told repeatedly it's a problem with iix and not Euronet (and
that's supported by traceroutes I do from time to time, like every 20
minutes...)
Linux list: I hope we can stop discussing it now
il-board: I hope we start this discussion now, the Israeli ISPs should
move all routing through the US again until iix comes to it's senses.
Shlomi: counting on you, dude :-)
