If you want to impress the unwashed masses at Computax, you could show X
with AfterStep, an FVWM varient that mimics NextStep. It looks stunning,
but don't try it on a 256 color screen, as it can't allocate enough colors
and half the icons don't show up. You can get the download address from
RedHat's Linux applications page.
Which brings me to a question. How on earth do you run X in 16 bit color
mode? I have read the HOWTO and FAQs, and followed the instructions for
my graphics card (a Cirrus Logic 5824) and it doesn't work. The command
startx -bpp 16 is ignored and it defaults to 8 bit.
