new sendmail...?

is the new Sendmail a simple drop-in replacement for 8.7.*? I mean, do I
get to keep my old sendmail.* files, or should I backup and integrate (or
else miss the important new features)
I also understand it should now support virtual domains more easyly, is
that true?
