I belive you are trying to run the connection while running an X server
and all the goodies... well, the kernel has to deal with all the things,
while in low memory, and I suppose the TCP handshake is a little delayed
(ack packets). another problem MAY be a slow connection as Harvey
sugests, but this you can tell yourself according to the connect string,
or the front dislay if you have a Supra, Dynamode or whatever modem that
has external indication.
at any rate... last stable kernel is 1.3.58, and in fact, since the TCP
sources were split, there was a stability problem with sockets and other
parts of the IP in the kernel, so either upgrade to 67 or later (MIGHT be
ok) or downgrade to 58.
