A couple of schools down here are running Novell and linux together. The
Novell is used to serve disk space to the windows user machines. The
windows boxes have odipkt drivers and they run a tcp/ip stack (trumpet).
The Novell uses IPX and stays out of the business of internet services
such as email, ftp, WWW etc.. A Linux box operates as an "internet" by
offering httpd, postoffice, IRC server, cu-seeme reflector, majordomo..
etc.

The thing that many new school installations do not seem to
anticipate is the "killer" application of global collaborative
inquiry. Linux really flourishes here.

I suggest you write to David Lloyd at the High School for
Environmental Studies. They run Novell concurrently with
Linux.
