Linux installation problem
Hi all,
I have a problem with my CD-ROM in a new installation of Slackware Linux 3.0.
The CD-ROM is an IDE/ATAPI 6x CD-ROM from Philips which works fine under
MS-DOS & Windoze.
It also works fine with the boot & ramdisk floppies created by slackware for
the installation process (I loaded Linux to its own partition).
The problem starts when I boot from the LILO floppy created at the end of the
installation - it fails in trying to read from the CD-ROM when going to
multi-user mode.
MY IDE setup is:
Primary IDE with a 1.28G disk configured as master.
Secondary IDE with the CD-ROM configured as master (I also tries "Single",
which is when the jumer is removed or stored horizontally - smae results).
I checked the /proc/filesystems & it shows the iso9660 is supproted, but I
ssuspect the problem is I see no 'ide1' in the /proc/devices when I cat it,
while I do see an 'ide0'.
It seems that the identification of the secondary IDE fails. Using the
following did not help either:
hdc=cdrom
ide1=0x0170
hda=serialize
Any ideas/recommendations or similar setups which you can help me with?
TIA,
