I had my share of PnP too, with a NE2000 clone that has 2 options either
PnP or
software setable IRQ.

Well setting the Software IRQ from DOS worked as long as I didn't booted
WIN95,
after I booted Win95 the card forgot it's IRQ, and nither Linux nor
Win95 could use it. So, I had a choice Win95 or Linux, well I took a
good old jumper setable card from one of the the other computers at the
office and put the wonder card in a Win95 box.

In all my communications with dealers from that day on, if it's not PCI,
it must not be PnP!!
