writing a tape on Linux and reading on SunOS

Hi all,

I have recently encountered the following problem:

I wrote on my SCSI 4mm dat tape using tar (Linux 1.1.94). I tried to read it on a
SUN compatible
running SunOS 4.1.4. It started reading OK but after a few mega it failed (I forgot
the message).
I next thought that it might be a block size problem, so I wrote and read with
dd explicitly setting the block size (at 1K). The file was ~18meg. It read
about ~16.5M and then came up with a premature EOF.

Notes: 1) it seems that the drives on both machines are fine. I have no problem
reading back my tape on my system and it also works fine with DOS backup
software. The guys with the SUnOS have never had problems reading tapes
     from other sources.
      2) The part of the file that WAS read, was read perfectly.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
