Are you using XF86 3.1.1?
I had exactly the same problem in 3.1.1 (with a CL 5428) but it 
was fixed in 3.1.2.
A solution that worked for me was to move the cursor down
until the screen scrolled, which fixed the problem, it might be
specific to the CL card, but you might try it.
