I won't object to giving you some experience info that you won't find in the
Howto's.
Security: Linux comes unsecured. Get a very good security book and the 
AUSCERT checklist that comes in handy, especially if you're not into 100
charcter command lines. Get COPS and check your system first

WWW: NCSA 1.5 is out for the last month or so.
There are 2 HTML X based authoring systems for HTML. I'm sure you've already
seen them.
There is an online Tutorial at ncsa for setting up servers. Good, and worth
a browse.
Don't run any PERL scripts you didn't check with a magnifying glass.

Router: block all those uneccesary protocols router level.
