Splitting Linux-il... Not.

I really doubt splitting would do any good for 2 reasons.

   1. All it takes is one brainless character to really flood a
newsgroup, and we've already seen lots of them.
   2. A newbie would probably just email to both groups anyway.

Also, who exactly would be helped by splitting the groups? I'd be
subscribed to both, so it can't possibly reduce the traffic I see. In
fact, it can only increase the traffic I see because of a) duplicate
messages, and b) similar topics showing up on both groups.

Instead, why not try heading off the newbies by having regularly
scheduled Linux installation parties? Say, once a month (assuming
sufficient interest), alternating between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Newbies could come with their PCs, and experienced hackers (what's the
opposite of a newbie? :) can hang out helping the newbies to get linux
up and running and/or eradicating miscellaneous problems and bugs. We
can recommend that people try to get as far as possible on their own,
so that we can help them with the more tricky parts...

Can anyone manage to get us a standard bi-monthly location in each
city?

At the very least, let's try to schedule one for the week following
the show for all the newbies we intend to generate.
