Did you compile the kernel with the SB/CDROM support?
I think it's a Matsushita/Panasonic SBPCD drive.

All you have to set up is the SB configuration parameters when
compiling the kernel.
you'd have to `make config` and configure your sound card.

Actualy, I also have the SB16/CDROM for well over a year, and it
always worked fine.
BTW: What software are you using to test the SB?
Do you have the correct device files in /dev?
