Re: setting up a computer for Linux
Look friends, PLEASE do not start a new war, just try to think why I write
this. If you disagree, PLEASE write privately, as many dirty words as you
wish, but SAVE THE WAR TO THE OTHER READERS.
Someone wants to purchase a Boeing 747 to fly from Haifa to Tveria, asks
where, gets a lot of addresses. But does it make sense to use a Boeing 747
for such a trip?
I **REALLY** do not want to hurt anybody, not the asker, not those who
answered so far over the Net (I did so privately), but is it a good idea to
tell someone who wants Linux on his PC in order to get to know Unix, where to
spend his money on a project which the Linux FAQ strongly discourages?
I would understand somebody willing to set up the machine and system for
that person who just wants to get a taste of Unix, but is it reasonable
to send him buy hardware and software and take the plunge with no prior
UNIX experience at all, on his own?
