booting Linux
rumors were that old Venturii had troubles letting the RAMdisk feature
work, but I installed both Slackware and Caldera (=RedHat) on a Venturis
5xx machine (was 575 in the morning, but 5120 when I was done :)
and it istalled smoothly with no ill affects (other than the S3 not being
supported for the RedHet graphic install.)
LILO sits on the MBR mostly, and that aggitates virus checkers, so I
avoid installing it on DOS+Linux machines, where I use Loadlin instead. a
much better solution, doesn't bother virus checks, easyer to config,
alows multi-image boots and options, and most important: let's you boot
from ANY partition, over the cylinder limit of the BIOS and into extended
partitions too.
