This is a common problem with redhat, not unique to your set up, or 
machine or karma or anything.
The solution is to edit the rc script so that your computer starts up 
sendmail running in the background ( & ), and this will cause sendmail to 
start up as usual, but being in the background will allow your computer 
to continue booting.
And your breath will smell better.
