Yes! - and pretty reliable:

1) Upgrade only things you HAVE to (what was wrong with libc-5.0.9 <- not 5 I
   guess?)
2) Read release-*, README*, INSTALL* files
3) See (from the above) which packages you MUST have updated PRIOR to this one
4) Repeat steps 2) and 3) for all such packages
5) Think if this upgrade won't break any of your current apps ( 2) together with
   a bit of experience & intuition can help here)
6) Write down all installation instructions step by step on a piece of paper
7) Make backup
8) Relax & think once again
9) Go ahead!
