Meeting

Hi.

OK, here's some info about the meeting.

The meeting will take place on Friday, the 26th of July, in the Tel-Aviv
area. I'm talking to several people about a location, and it seems
optimistic, for once (Sela had a place for us last Friday). The meeting
will probably start sometimes between 8:00 and 9:00.

The primary subject to be discussed is the matter of becoming an amuta.
I think the best way to do this is to have someone (preferably as objective
as possible) find out the legal details of this matter and give a 10
minute summary. After that we should have some sort of debate. Concluding
the debate, we should hold the real vote (my instincts of the medieval-class
law practiced nowadays says there must be a REAL vote), and either become
an amuta or drop the idea completely. This raises a problem with people
who cannot make it, which means they'll have to send in their electronic
votes by mail to me or something, so here goes:

If you do NOT plan on being at the meeting for any reason, and you want
to vote on the issue of becoming an amuta, send mail to roji@cs.huji.ac.il
with a yes, no or abstain (just like last time. This is becoming repetitive).

If we DO decide to become an amuta, we should construct a takanon and
decide on some other things (membership fees?). Another reason for someone
KNOWLEDGABLE to be there.

The second issue we should talk about is splitting the group. This subject
has been raised and dropped, raised and dropped, and we should give
it some thought and either implement it, or - you guessed it - drop it
once again.

The third issue I think we should think about (regardless if we become
an amuta), is a clearer policy on shows. This includes several things.
For example, we should decide what type of shows we want to be in -
specialized networking/OS/Unix/... shows or general people-level shows
(computax). A clearer idea of what possible sponsors we have, who takes
care of what, etc.

Yet another issue to be tackled, is our relationship with commercial
entities. This includes actual cooperation with companies, but also any
type of commercial activity by list members themselves.

Installation parties is another nice idea that came up and was never
implemented. We should discuss that as well.

Perhaps we might also be able to set up meetings at more "regular"
intervals and determine them. This would also allow for more "social"
get-togethers and not just meeting when there's a pressing issue at hand.

-----------------

I think that summarizes the ideas I had about the meeting. Shoot your
ideas, guys.... (and Chen)
