Re: PCI Graphic Adapter for X11.
In message <25F3C943D4D@hagiga.jct.ac.il> you write:
| I like to buy a new Graphic Adapter to be supported by the XFree86.
|I want 1280x1024 8/24 bpp (depend on price) and 1600x1200 8 bpp.
|I would like to know what is the highst refresh rates that the
|boards can produce.
|
|I know about the ATI-Mach64 and Diamond Stealth.
|
|Any Comments ? Experience with any other boards ?
|
|Does anyone know about a FAQ file that compare the different Graphic
|Adapters in market today ? I'm not looking for PC-Mag / Byte lab test, as
|I don't use windogs.

I did very little research about video cards so far (going to get deep
into this now). But from what I've heard the above-mentioned two are
the most recommanded. They are suported by XFree86. I suppose I'll
buy the ATI myself (though now that I'm offered a 20" screen at half-
price I'll have to look at yet higher resolutions, *green*).
Marc Volovic showed me a list of results of a benchmark of various
cards under XFree86 (under Linux, maybe also under other PC-OS's)
which should help you decide. (Marc: Could you point us to the list?)
Please let me know about what you find - I'm compiling a list of
prices and technical data of computer parts from what I've collected
so far (disks, memory, screens, sources of parts and hopefully soon
also mother boards and video cards) and make this info available on
the web (don't hold your breath) so any RELIABLE, ACCURATE info
(again, RELIABLE AND ACCURATE) will be appreciated.

Just call them and ask as many questions as you like. If you can think
about questions beforehand and jot them down then you might make
yourself a service. You probebly better have them FAX you the info so
you can seat and compare all the relevant aspects (I dunno about video
cards, maybe the benchmark results list will be the final answer?).
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
