Subject: Computax - Problems with the AS255
Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 10:08:34 +0300 (IDT)
Harvey,
I have suggested to Erez to bring back the Alpha to us, so that we can try
to do something, but ...
Anyway, here are some comments and suggestions:
1. Boot,I understand to you got over that problem somehow. Somebody from
Digital suggested to switch the console to NT. I am told that that the
AS255 doesn't have enough flash memory to contain both the SRM and ARC
consoles. To load/change the firmware you need the right floppies or
CDROM.
2. Video adapter. There is a TGA 8bit card available just now at the ACT.
Contact Yossi Elayani - 09-593008. I think that at some point in time I
said that the CPU is an EV5, I was confused by the 300Mhz, the CPU is
indeed EV45(21064A).
3. Ethernet. You should use the DE4x5/DE500 driver. On the AS255 the chip
is on motherboard, but it is supposed to be compatible with DE435. Not
sure if the driver can auto sense correctly the type of the connector. If
you are still using the SRM console then the connector type can be
defined with "set ewa0_mode twisted" or "aui", the default should be
"aui". If it is the ARC console then it cannot be changed and the default
may be "twisted".
