Re: Organizing Linux Installation Parties

It seems, that the biggest part of the Linux install is fighting dos/lose
to let linux in.

Amos,

About the 2.2 item in your doc:
Is there some dos utils that says all the IRQ/IO ports at once

About the 2.9 item in your doc:
What's wrong with P&P enabled?

About the 7.5 item in your doc:
...Set disk mode to LBA (how?)...

You can't do it, if the disk was formatted under other option.

In my case, I've bought 2.1 WD HD, it was written in its docs to set
the Disk as "LARGE" at the BIOS, I did it. Linux worked fine. but all
the lose(9->5) stuff didn't work. You know why 95? from 9 o'clock till
5 o'clock :-)

When I switched to the LBA. Nothing worked since "LARGE" options make
different cyl/head/sec relation then LBA. So linux had problem with
physical/virtual addressing. I think it was possible to solve the
problem, with some hacking or not. I've just copied my linux to another
disk, removed everything, set the HD as LBA, reformatted and put back the
Linux. Since then everything was OK.

Only one more thing I don't know why but you must put your vmlinuz, in
the first 1024Mb, else the system will not boot, since fs can put it
anywhere you need your boot partition to be finished before 1024Mb.
I'm talking about booting with lilo

As it was discussed before there are other boot managers, that have no
these problems.
