MNP-x, V.X are all software of course, but are from the second layer
of the OSI and the Modem run them by itself,
it is burned in a prom,Eprom or with the most expansive modems
on flash.

The catch is the right script for "chat", since most of the people who
try to connect for the first time using Linux, are new to Linux, It's
one of the things to set up, and I found a nice little shell script
to do the dirty work for me.
