I have no idea what an SB16 uses for an interface to the CD, but will

In ~linux/bootdsks.12 look for a file with CD model names (I assume
it's cdu33 something).

It DOES have CD support (obviously) but does NOT have SB support - you
_WILL_ have to recompile the kernel which is good practice in any case.
