(Again, non techninal-Linux issues generate much more interest :-) )

1) As many have said, anyone can join the list. This should not even 
   be an issue.
2) Any one objecting is, of course, free to leave.
3) The reaction you fear, should certainly not influence any decision
   on barring anyone.
4) The social/political problems of our country is not something you
   can run away from.
5) In my eyes, any one objecting to any one else joining the list,
   is expressing an opinion which I do not even consider legitimate.
   (As opposed to objecting to the contents of postings, which is
    quite popular and OK).
   I do not even consider it a "political" objection, there are other
   words for it.
