Re: Linux TCP/IP problems on a local net.
Well, If I were you I'd check a couple of things:
1) see if you have the ethernet as eth0 use ifconfig
2)if the device is recognised see if you've enabled tcp/ip in the kernel
(telneting to localhost should do the trick).
3) if so far's so good, you probably have a packet driver problem
on your DOS box. Try good old crynaw (spelling) packet dricer for tcp/ip.
If you want tcp IP on windwows You better get odipkt.com (the old 1.3 version
only), and winpkt. That should do the trick for WFWG. 95's got it all
built in. That's odipkt + winpkt is OK. Takes some memory, but then you
don't have to use a Local HD for your diskless (??) WFWG machines.
Remember to put Ethernet_II in those boot images.
That's how the network here's connected. Not really Linux stuff, but I
guess many admins are interested. When putting tcp/ip up I also found the
tcp/ip faq very helpfull.
