Can't use Creative Hex Speed CD-ROM
Hi Guys,
I've replaced my double-speed creative CD-ROM with a Hex Speed.
The new CD-ROM plugs directly into the IDE (the old one plugged
into the Sound Blaster card).
Win95 recognized the change and it works just find in there.
My disk is SCSI, so this should be the first IDE drive (hda).
I had rebuild my Linux (1.2.13 kernel (old I know :-))) to
support IDE-ATAPI cd-rom instead of the sbpcd (which of course
did not work).
However, it did not help and I could not mount on the cdrom.
I've added the command option "hda=cdrom" to the boot line and
while it comes up it just says: "ide0: had: cdrom".
Later is prints: "hda: no response (status = 0xff)
hda: ATAPI cdrom (?)"
After I log in as root, if I try to mount the cdrom
anyway, it does not succeed and in /var/adm/messages
I find few lines like:
"<date> <my kernel>: ide0: do_ide_reset: timed-out, status=0xff
<date> <my kernel>: hda: DRDY error: status=0xff
"
Now, I can hear a CD-music with this drive through the speakers which
are connected to the SB16 card when I insert a music CD into the drive
and press on the play button (hardware, on front panel). I suspect this
has nothing to do with IDE since the CD-ROM is still connected to the SB16
card with an audio cable.
Any hint?
ADVthanksANCE,
