Upgrading to 2.0 and backwards to 1.2.13!

Hello everyone

I have installed the latest 2.0.0 kernel, recompiled everything, and it even
boots. Now, from what I read 2.0.0 isn't truly stable, and I prefer having
both kernels working meanwhile. I haven't installed all the packages required
for 2.0, but I know which packages (SysVinit, ppp, procps and a few more).

Now the $64,000 questions:

Will the UPGRADED packages still work 100% with 1.2.13, or are they
1.3.X/2.0.X specific only? I want to upgrade the packages and STILL have a
dual configuration.
I know I can play with the init scripts and hold both versions, but doing this
gets really messy, and I want to avoid doing this.
I KNOW how to do this, I just don't want to unless it's absolutely necessary.
(A possible messy solution is to have a 2.0 init script and a 1.2 init script
which will install symlinks to the specific versions).

thanks,
Udi
