Well, it _does_ occur at _exactly_ the same point, not only with different
memory loads (e.g. single user without X compared to X running with several
programs), but also with different kernel versions being compiled!
The faulty simm hypothesis thus seems quite unlikely, but I'll try to swap
simms anyway.
BTW, I don't think it's a scsi driver problem, as Alon suggested. I'm using
adaptec 1542 controller, and as far as I know the driver is quite bug-free. As
for kernel version - all attempts were made under 1.2.13. I will perhaps try to
compile under a more recent kernel (the latest I did manage to compile is
1.3.50).
