Check to make sure that the jumpers on the cd-rom drive are set to
master (NOT slave). An IDE cd-rom defined as slave on a controller
of its own will work under DOS but refuses to work under Linux (at
least with 1.2.13 and my IDECD). If this is the case, just move the
jumper to the MASTER configuration (as per CD-ROM documentation).
