Debian 1.1 and serial ports

Hello High Elves and Glorious Adans [humans].
Ellen sila lumenn omentilmo.

Well I've installed debi[li]an 1.1 yesterday and having problems. First of
all, the base disks (1.44) of Jun 16 weren't accepted so I had to use the
disks of Jun 11... But that's not the main problem.

Well, after I installed debian, I noticed that my modem doesn't work. I set
the symbolic link /dev/modem -> /dev/cua1 and tried to run minicom (and yes,
I tried to change the device between /dev/modem, /dev/cua1 and /dev/ttyS
several times), but the modem just _didn't_ respond. It didn't hear
anything. Well, under Slackware it _did_ work, and it still works under the
bloody msdos. I also tried not to run the /etc/rc.init/0setserial script,
but it still didn't help.

Please help me ppl!

Legolas the Elf (a.k.a. Vadik).
