Re: UpComing COMPUTAX + Linux-il is alive and kicking!!!!!!

Ave ppl!
Well what I can say, I'm glad that this group is alive again.

1) Can some of you do me a favor? When you reply the message please
include the original mail, 'cause sometimes I just can't get what is
talking about (like in Ariel Nowersztern <reln@CS.HUJI.AC.IL>'s mail)
BTW Ariel, cool home page!
thanx in advance.

2) My opinion: if we do collect some money we should spend it on buying
CD writing machine (CD-RAM ? ;) ). Because: if we sell (and we'll have to
sell - on some symbolic price like 30NIS for CD) to the people, the
result will be simple - more people will have Linux at home, and
generally it will be people who does not have internet access (I mean
normal access not "dial in")
I personaly know some people who heard about Linux, want to try it, but 30+
disks is pretty big amount for them ( I mean to install smth. from 30+ disks)
If guess if we do some advertacement, the idea "will go"

BTW question: if it will be legal if we just multiply famous CDROM
distributions - slackware, Yggdrasil, Walnut Creek, Infomagic...etc?
Dovie Adler <dadler@hobbes.jct.ac.il>'s collection can be used for it.

3) Also I really liked Yair George Rajwan <yair@hobbes.jct.ac.il>'s idea
about publishing flyers, but (Yair, I tried to avoid BUT's....:) ) how
will we widespread them? Of course we can do it through the net, but we
need to get to the "not connected" people. One of the solutions will be
putting ads in the universities (where we study) and organizations (where
we work).

AND NOW, the idea of the day: t-shirts - I don't know if it will be usefl
like flyers, but it will look absolutely COOL!
We can also use herbolife's idea : Loose crashes now - ask me how :)
(just kidding), but something like "Official member of Israeli Linux"
group will attract people.

4) I guess Erez Strauss <strauss@actcom.co.il> is right - we should meet.
there are to many things we have to talk about and if we do it by the net
it will take to much time.
We MUST try to invite as much people as we can - they will be posible
donators, ( I mean people who are interested - I'll try to bring my boss
:) )

Well with the given to me power to proclaim Erez Strauss as the official
meeting's topic holder and donators list holder.

5) Back to CmpuTax: "Harvey J. Stein" <hjstein@MATH.HUJI.AC.IL>'s idea
about calling "the company you bought computer equipment from and find
out if they're exhibiting at the show" is the perfect solution, I will do
it on sunday.

6) Oren Yehezkely <oren@most.gov.il> suggestment about
"joint venture to buy the cd-recorder machine" and " I am also willing to
use my company as a business frame to the activity of the linux group -
with some limitations"
seems very good to be VERY good idea but the questions are: what your
company is doing and what are the "limitations" you mentioned?
Oren's idea about importing the disks....what for will you import the
disks if you can produce some of your own?
And Oren Yehezkely's suggestion about collecting a member tax is good and
actual.

--------------
(SUGESTIONS WILL BE SENT BY SEPARATE MESSAGE) - in the case that people
will get bored by my responces :)
--------------
NOW I'm done with responces here come my sugestions:
1) Can someone post the avrg. prices of CD recording machine and how much
every CD will cost to us?
2) Can someone check out prices of making T-Shirts and flyers?
3) Please, anyone who is interested in participating in "Linux-il project"
(that means coming to next meeting, donating money and/or time and/or
hardware), post it to Erez Strauss <strauss@actcom.co.il> after he
agrees (if he does) with the mission of prepairing these lists.
4) AND NOW: The second idea of the day: ......BBS....yes, my fellows, BBS
with all the sources (from mounted CDROM), Linux-il' 95 Archive, last
kernel sources and the main - information about us.
(of course with 14.4/28.8 modem)
THAT will gives to "not connected" Linux users opportunity to "be in".
of course it will not provide internet access, but....still good....
THAT can be done by me (of course with your help and technical advices)
(sorry can't do it now - need to buy CDROM, phone line, more RAM, etc)
DISADVANTAGES: it will not run 24h a day - I need to use my PC/phone line
too)
I can also try to do it on my old father's PC in his office or something
else. I will also maintain it and worry about updating.
WE can ask money for it (for heavy use of BBS) that will be donated to
"Linux-il project".

Well...any comments, suggestions, flowers and love letters are welcomed

regards, Sergei "hard typer" Lvov
