I bet you that you didn't run your /sbin/lilo after you switched kernels...
You have to boot it from a bootdisk/rootdisk set, then re-run setup.
Choose system configuration (I think), and do the part which installs
LILO on the boot sector of your disk.
Good luck, and next time, just after you do anything with the kernel
images, A. keep a backup of the old kernel, say mv vmlinuz vmlimuz.old.
B. create an entry in /etc/lilo.conf to run the old kernel as well
C. RE-RUN /sbin/lilo!!!!!
