Founding an Amuta
Dear Friends,
Founding an amuta is relatively simple. However, the members of the
amuta do have some legal exposure (i.e. they could be held responsible)
for civil or criminal acts performed by the amuta. For instance, if
the amuta makes illegal political contributions, deals in drugs, etc.
Or more realistically, if the amuta distributes copyrighted software,
does not keep proper books on expenses and slanders Microsoft or someone
equally worthy.
The founding members of the amuta must be willing to accept this risk.
I volunteer, since in my experience, the risk is small and the benefit
is large. Other volunteers are needed though (I don't recall what the
minimum us for number of founding members).
Anyone can set up an amuta, but it is best done through an attorney.
I would be happy to ask my attorney, Mr. David Shottenfels, Betsalel 8,
Jlem to handle the rishum, and I will pay his fee.
All of the above depends of course on a decision by this group to
form an amuta. This decision process is somewhat mystical since the
group is not well defined, and any subset of the group can form the
amuta regardless of the will if the complementary subset.
As usual, I defer to the more veteran members.
