        	Linux gets Common Desktop Environment

Executive Tools, Inc. proudly announces the upcoming release of ET
Desktop. ET Desktop is Executive Tools' port of the Common Desktop
Environment (CDE) for Linux. CDE is a graphical user interface and
application toolbox that is or will soon be provided by major UNIX
system vendors, including DEC, IBM, HP, Sun and others. It is an
application framework giving software developers the ability to create
attractive, portable, machine-independent applications with
exceptional ease.

In the past, making platform independent, portable code required
developers to compromise on the the graphical quality of their
applications. The CDE framework almost completely eliminates this
problem except in only the most highly specialized applications.

CDE gives users the intuitive "point and click" and "drag and drop"
power that consumers have come to expect and demand. It also shields
them from the complexities of the operating system, which UNIX and
UNIX-like environments have been historically criticized for.

Now this exciting new work environment is being made available on
Linux. Linux is emerging as a robust, full-featured UNIX system. As
Executive Tools outfits Linux with the new industry standard Common
Desktop Environment, Linux will become the system of choice of serious
application developers who are trying to get the most performance at
the lowest possible cost.

CDE-enabled Linux allows development houses that have been PC-based to
leverage their existing Intel compatible machine investment. With ET
Linux, developers can make easy forays into powerful UNIX workstation
markets without the heavy burden of purchasing new, expensive UNIX
workstations. With the Executive Tools' port of the Common Desktop
Environment, "big-iron" UNIX workstation applications will have
unprecedented portability into the PC-based world and vice versa.

Buying UNIX for every PC in a company has always been expensive; but
with Linux, that is no longer the case. Support is available and the
ET Desktop is here.

Having the Common Desktop Environment on all UNIX machines in a
company, regardless of their manufacturer, makes support and training
easier and less expensive. Now even a corporation's PC's can share
the same look and feel with the company's more expensive, high powered
workstations.
