Mystery and horror...
Hi,
I have recently bought a new P200 system. Everything seems to be running
great (full 2.0.26 compilation - dep,zImage,modules,modules_install - in
less than 10 minutes).
ALL, EXCEPT FOR ----- XEmacs
I've never seen anything like it! I start it and ... nothing happens.
That is, the process is somewhere in the background, but it doesn't
affect memory or cpu usage, and doesn't give any output.
Once I left such a process without killing it, and about 20 minutes
later it all of a sudden popped up on my screen, and started behaving
normally...
Does anyone have any idea what may cause such a mysterious behaviour?
Other resource-hungry applications don't show similar symptoms
(netscape, for instance, takes 2 seconds to start and runs smoothly).
The version of XEmacs I use is xemacs-19.14-i486-unknown-linuxelf. It
was downloaded as a binary, and ran fine on a 486. I though perhaps it's
optimized for 486, and looked for an i586 version, but no such thing
seems to exist.
Any ideas??
