FYI, here is a program (for DOS), which checks for a fake cache,
although I am not sure if this is your problem.

>: One line description:Check L1 & L2 cache, for size and speed
>: Replaces:CACHCHK2.ZIP
>: Suggested Garbo directory: pc/sysinfo
>: Uploader name & email: Ray Van Tassle rayvt@comm.mot.com
>: Author or company: Ray Van Tassle

>: Shareware payment required from private users: postcard
>: Shareware payment required from corporates:postcard
>: Distribution limitations:none
>: Demo:n

>: Self-documenting:n
>: External documentation included:y
>: Source included:n
>: Size:
>: 10 lines description:
>: CACHECHK will do memory accesses to check out the L1 and L2 cache,
>: tell you the speeds and sizes of each, and check to see if all
>: of your memory is cached, or if some is non-cached.
>: CACHECTL allows you to turn the L1 cache on or off, and tell you if
>: it's enabled or disabled.
>: Handy to check for "fake cache" on a motherboard.
