The Wonderful world of Linux
Hi all
I just finished fine tuning a Network based on SAMBA.
The Lan server, which is a 386 dx40 ( no mistake) 8M Ram 170M HD, serve
as a printer server , a worklog database ( a dos program ) and the MS
postoffice
(until we move to 95, then I will make it a pop3 server too) it
replaced a Lantastic Network, that gave share errors when ever two
people sent a print job, I am not talking about the low transfer rates
of lantastic or it's lack of security.
Our office Have 10 station 2 and a half win95 and the rest Win3.11, 1
and a half linux
The installation took 2 days, done on the weekend, It's my first Samba
network installation, I guess next time it will take only a few hours.
The only problem is, I can run nmbd and smbd in daemon mode, when I try
to
use init to run it, it gets nmbd to crash like crazy giving some error
code evrey time it's try to run.
If I put nmbd as daemon and smbd under init, I get 2 smbd to run but
other computers asking for service are stuck for ever.
well since the system is very stable, I reboot only twice this month
because of a network stuck, it won't bother me running in in daemon
mode, but still I would
like to know why this is happen?
Bye, Sorry for the long letter but I wanted you to know that Linux runs
on 386 even as a server!!!
The joke is, Xpert ( The company) say: This solution will only work if
you have a linux guru in your office, and then go and sell Windows NT,
why the hell they are called Unix sulotions?!??!
Bye
