What is this becomming, Gripe-il?
The "shlep" who set up Linux-il is the guy who set up the mailing list
for us while everyone else was discussing how to do it, or whether or
not to do it, or whether it should be a mailing list or a newsgroup.
Shlep? I think not. So how about having a little respect. If you
don't like all those bounces, maybe you shouldn't post so much :).
To provide a little history, The Israel Linux Users started when I
posted a message to il.something.or.other asking if anyone wanted to
form a Linux users group. This quickly generated about 20 members, so
I asked if anyone could set up a mailing list for the group. Well,
while I started poking around, trying to figure out how I might set up
a mailing list given that I don't have root privileges, and while
people were suggesting to my "try procmail", "try majordomo", ...,
Dovie Adler sent me a message volunteering (it's starting to look more
and more like kamakazing every day) to set up the mailing list. I
sent him back a message saying "It's ok - I'm looking into procmail &
majordomo. I should be able to wire up something or other...".
Within an hour, I received another message from Dovie - "Well, it
wasn't a bother really. I've already got it set up."
Thus was born Linux-il@hagigia, running under Novell!
Now, as for the bounces, it's both of our faults. I have
list-maintainer privileges, so I could remove the addresses that
bounce. However, I haven't been mailing to Linux-il so often lately,
so I'm not up on which addresses are the offenders (although I suppose
I will be after I mail this). However, I don't want to just go and
remove those addresses, because it might just be a temporary outage.
So, Dovie - Can your server be set up *not* to reflect those messages
back to the sender? Can you instead just log the undeliverables
somewhere & periodically remove them from the list?
Thanks,
Harvey
