I don't think the parallel port linux drivers are bidirectional. If
they are, you can just do:

   tar cvzf /dev/lp0 ./

on one machine, and

   tar xvzf /dev/lp0

on the other (assuming that you use a PLIP cable between parallel port
lp0 on each machine).

Similarly, with a null modem cable strung between machines (say on
/dev/ttyS0 on each machine), you can also do exactly the same as
above, except with ttyS0 replacing lp0, and by using stty on each
machine first to set the serial ports to the same speed.

Similarly, one could use sz (zmodem send) and rz (zmodem receive).
The advantage of zmodem as opposed to tar would be that zmodem will
use checksums to catch errors and retransmit.

Better (in the sense of more featureful) would be to just use either
PLIP through the parallel ports or PPP through the serial ports. This
is more work (you have to configure networking on each machine) and
will give somewhat slower transfers (because of the TCP/IP overhead),
but will allow you to do things like telnet from one machine to the
other, ftp from one to the other, mount each machine's filesystem on
the other machine via NFS, etc.

As for your video card problems, I can only suggest to check the docs
in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc, check the man pages (but make sure you get
the right ones - slackware puts them in a weird place and if you
upgrade X you can easily end up still looking at the old man pages),
and maybe try upgrading to X version 3.1.2D.

Good luck,
