Hello Linux gurus!

I'd like to know more about ppp ( or slip )
emulators for Linux.
I have un*x shell account but don't have ppp 
I've tried slirp but that didn't work.
Can anybody help me?
How do I configure slirp with Linux?
If yes could you anwswer directly to me?
