Cannot login after updating pam, pamconfig & pwdb
Hi!
Please also send a reply message to shlomif@ibm.net, because I'm not
registered to this list with this E-mail address.
I've installed the XFree86-3.3.1 RPMs on my RedHat 4.1 system and in the
process had to install the new versions of pam, pamconfig and pwdb, from
the updates and RPMS/i386 directories.
Immidiately after I installed all the packages, I realized that when I
tried to login from a virtual console or use su, I receive a couple of
"login incorrect" lines, and it returns to the "Login:" prompt.
The situation right now is that I cannot login into the hard-disk
partition, I don't know what the problem is exactly, but the "login
incorrect" symptom persists. I can edit the files using a Linux boot-disk,
but erasing the passwords in the /etc/passwd file did not allow me to
login. Is it possible that format of one of the configuration files in /etc
was changed in the new versions of one of the updated programs?
My system is a P166 with RedHat-4.1 and kernel v. 2.0.29. What should I do
to solve the problem?
