You don't even have to do that much! Just:

a. Grab a binary release of libc-5.4.* from sunsite
b. Install the .so files to some standalone directory
c. Add this directory to the /etc/ld.so.conf file
d. Re-run /sbin/ldconfig
e. Do the StarOffice Installation (you have to run it twice BTW)
f. Remove the new dir name from /etc/ld.so.conf
g. Re-run /sbin/ldconfig
h. Remove the directory with the new libc


The installation may be even easier, if you play with LD_*
variables. In this case you don't even have to much with
ld.so.conf/ldconfig stuff.

The point is that the only piece which requires libc-5.4 is the
installation procedure.

In any case, the thing is damn big and slow.
