Red Hat Linux 5.0 is Here At Last!
Red Hat Software, Inc. announces the December 1 release of Red Hat Linux
5.0, a powerful package that combines new ease-of-use features for the
beginner with the stability, flexibility, and technology that advanced
users of Red Hat Linux have come to expect.
Bob Young, President of Red Hat Software, Inc. said, "The remarkably
effective and efficient Internet-based cooperative development model under
which Red Hat Linux is developed, improved, and enhanced, continues to
expand rapidly. The results of this revolutionary software development
model can be seen in the highly secure, stable, and feature-rich Red Hat
Linux 5.0 operating system."
Red Hat Linux 5..0 will simplify installation with its new intuitive and
reliable disk partitioning user interface, automatic hardware probing and
configuration, sound support, and Kickstart facility for system
administrators. Red Hat Linux 5.0 enjoys a new C library, called Glibc,
that offers better internationalization and support for threads. 5.0
includes configuration for multiple window managers, graphical user-level
tools, and many updated tools for system administration. On the commercial
end, 5.0 offers internet audio broadcaster Real Audio, MetroX, and BRU
2000-PE Backup and Restore Utility.
Said Marc Ewing, Red Hat Software's Director of Development, "Our vastly
improved hardware support and automatic configuration will bring Linux to
a
wider audience, and our new Kickstart facility will allow system
administrators to perform unattended custom-configured installs of the
operating system on entire labs full of machines." Add new ease-of-use
features to the already stable and advanced Red Hat Linux, and 5.0 is the
smartest, least expensive operating system available.
