Computax
Hi, everyone.
Marc and I went to Computax today and I just wanted to share my thoughts
about it.
First, entrance cost us 20 NIS (although we did managed to get overlooked
by the guards, but that only worked for the first presentation hall. The
other halls had better guards).
The show apparently descended to the masses as the years went by. While
two years ago I remember various Unix booths (not to mention our own!)
we could not find ONE booth that had anything to do with Unix. The show
concentrated on relatively user-level stuff, and for example had little
focus on networking. I have the feeling that if we had organized and
put up a booth there, it would have been a complete miss as the crowd was
definitely not the type of crowd we could have turned to.
In short people, forget Computax. I'd recommend taking a look at the
more professional shows like LAN96 (I'd bet that even Infotech isn't
very suitable for our needs).
And unless you're looking for Windoze software or any other brain-damaged
software, don't waste the 20 NIS.
