  The idea has been there all along.  Probably checking the
/usr/src/linux/README or Makefile files of older kernels will help
ascertain when the first formal commitment was made.

  Some Linux afficionado found him a job in California working on
computer matters completely unrelated to Linux.  Linus seems to want to
keep his work on Linux on purely voluntary basis.
