Talk won't work on RedHat 4.0

Hi all!

I have installed Linux on a P166+16MB machine from a RH 4.0 distribution. As it became evident to me yesterday, talk doesn't seem to function on it, neither as a client nor as a server. (I think the problem is with the client).

I can't seem to talk to anyone, whether he's on my machine or on a different host on the Net. It occurs whether inetd is active or whether it is disabled

When I caught the output onto a file, it said something about being unable to bind to port 33 (or something like that; a very low port number anyways). I can't understand why it has to bind to such a low port number if it's the client. Anyhow, even as root I couldn't do it.

My /etc/services file seems fine expect that I commented out the syslog port. (for security reasons).

Does anybody have any idea why it happens.

Thanks in advance,
