We're using CVS and it's fine. However we use it in a trusted
(internal) environment. CVS remote access is based either on rsh-based
protocol (which sucks) or it has a proprietary 'pserver'
authentication which is really moronic and must be avoid like a
plague.

Unless the CVS guys make something new, one possibility may be using
SSH for remote access.
