Why would the year 2000 affect a Linux box more than pulling the power 
plug in mid operation with some mainboards sold here ;( I have a board 
that loses hours to days between turn-offs (including with regular 
shutdown). Not always.

BTW, I am under the (source-peeking supported) impression that the Linux 
kernel uses int's in time_t etc. Also being 32 bit and not overly 
optimized for size, most counters are 32 bits. If they are signed, it is 
2038, if not, more like 2106... (based on the number of seconds that can 
be expressed on 32 bits, added to the epoch).
