Weird things
Hi,
I have had a few weird problems recently
First I have mounted ext2 linux diskette and when I cd to it and made ls
I've got kernel panic message . I could go to another window and do ls
and few other things but I couldn't do no sync no reboot.
So the only choice was hard reboot who ate half of my boot partition
(/etc /boot has gone after e2fsck) I have restored them from backup
Now I can boot linux but I have other weirdness: I get login prompt
and every time I type login name at the moment I press Enter I get the
login process respawned. So I can't enter the password and login
Any ideas what was the problem with diskette (Is it possible that some broken
diskette crush the whole system?)
and what is wrong with login process?
BTW, it's not the first time I have problems with diskettes. I remember
a few times linux've got stucked to read from diskette and I have tried
to put it out and I've got kernel panic. (Probably it was stupid thing to
do, but I don't understand why kernel is so dependant on such a small
resource as fd?)
Thanks for any assistance!
