Re: Perl vs. C ?

to all of you perl gurus i have some questions.
and i'm sorry if it's an off topic.

1. how do i take the time stamp from my computer. i.e. my local time.

2. i want to use a search word or words from cgi and search
my file for any records containing that search string.

the data file is a schudule file and contain records
that are as folows.
10 digits the first 6 are the date and the last 4 are the local time.
i need to send back an html file with the task that is maching the
shearch word/string and the date and users local time.
of course he'd have to choose his time zone first.
and if the task is repeating to send all the dates and times it's
on.

i'm not asking for scripts. but any advices or implementations
(examples)
would be apreciated greatly.
