Re: sytem does not function
Try to run at 180 MHz, do not disable the cache (it is a hardware device
and it works under Linux too, no matter what others say).
Your best bets are (in order of fault frequency encountered in a repair
shop):
1. IDE cable too long. Remedy: cut the IDE cable as short as possible. Can
try to get another cable. If you use only one unit, cut the remaining
cable (to the 2nd connector) off and use the 1st one.
2. Somehow bad drive. Change it.
3. Try to get the merchant to change your rams. Flaky rams often cause
this kind of problem, especially if you have no parity. Even changing
between simms that are otherwise perfect will work.
4. Bad motherboard. Change it.
BTW Windoze has similar problems under similar circumstances (GPFs).
I have seen similar problems with bad power supplies but I assume you have
a brand new one with at least 250Watts.
(I'm an electronics tech and I have a teuda in PC repair among other
things).
