one thing to note: unless something was drastically changed, IIX is made
of a single router into which all participating partners connect. No hub
what-so-ever, just a bunch of frame-relay connections.

all the major 7 (or is it 8?) universities, and a few colleges are
connected to what is called ILAN (something around the Israeli Academic
Network). the ILAN network indeed has a single link to the IIX, plus they
have a link directly to IBM (since IBM provides ILAN with their link to
the USA).
if you're very interested, there used to be a map of the ILAN network
maintain on vm.tau.ac.il (well, apparently i don't remember how to fetch
it, or its gone, anyone remembers the directory name under which this
resides?)
