linux-il and on/off-topic.

( And he is refering to: "compiling a c++ file with g++ on Linux, and how
to access MS-DOS files". )
I don't think it is off-topic. On the contrary. I think it is very much
on-topic.
I also saw the other day, after I sent my reply, another reply to her. Which
shows, in my opinion, that the other replyer did not think it is off-topic
either. And he might thought so because he had spent quite a time on a similar
problem, or because if he had that kind of help available in another issue, it
would promot him in some way.
>From the more general point of view, I think that we shuold accept almost any
message that has something to do with computers. The reasoning for that is:
1) linux-il is a small mailing list (I would say 8 messages a day is
more then the average), and probably only people that have some
interest in Linux are using it.
2) We are a small community.
3) We want to increase the interest and use of Linux.
4) One can always skim the subject in the inbox list and skip a message.
5) As an operating system, Linux has a lot of faces.
1) from: "What is EDO (since only by understanding what EDO is,
one can try to say if it worth buying).
2) through: Is this programming language any good ?.
3) to: MS is implementing a new standard.
6) I got the impression that on the last few weeks, many messages were
stating: "perhaps it is off-topic, but ...".
What do you think ?
I will, ofcourse, avoid posting off-topic material.
