Caldera, RPM package manipulation

Question:

If one wants to use a Caldera or Red Hat CD for Linux installations
(custom) then what tools (if any) should be used, and whether the
execution of so-called 'post-installation' and 'pre-installation' scripts
can be prevented (from screwing up the place where you are doing this).

Also, what tools can be used to make packages that the original package
handlres understand.

I know Slackware (am using it) and the fact that there are no problems
there, so please leave that out.
