Doc. of Some Xm funcs + DNS' tool + UltraDMA
Yes, it's me again... Sorry for "spamming" the list with too much
junk. So now, I'm trying to assemble everything to one message.
I have three question:
=====================
1. Is there an interactive and/or automatic tool for setting up a
DNS? I know the basics, but lack the time to learn the whole
issue (my system is Slackware, with the final 2.0.31 kernel).
2. There are some functions from Motif 2.0 that were implemented in
1.2.5 and CDE 1.0.*, but were not documented. If anybody has 2.0
(I don't have! really!), or has these docs in another way, I'll
appreciate any help. I need man pages and/or docs. Some of the
functions are _Xm, and might lack any doc:
* XmGetIconFileName()
* XmeGetMask()
* XmeFlushIconFileCache()
* _XmSetThickness()
* _XmGetPixelData()
* _XmGetIconControlInfo()
3. (Maybe off topic): Is there any tool that retrieves the following
statistics from a Cisco (or another SNMP) router:
a) How many megabytes were transferred through this router (I
think it can be done manually, but the number is reset when the
router is turned off, contrary to a tool that can check it in
a loop and store the data on a disk).
b) What were the external IPs that "caused" most of these megabytes,
and how much traffic was used by any of them.
Regarding to UltraDMA: I asked the same question sometime ago, and
understood that it is transparent to the OS. I didn't buy it, but I
can tell you some important details:
1. You MUST have TX motherboard (e.g. 430).
2. If you have 2 disks, BOTH must be ultraDMA (if one of them is
simple EIDE, both will work slowly).
3. Because of the low prices, it is very recommended to buy UltraDMA
disk if you are going to buy a PC. Under some circumstances, you
will get twice performance, for almost the same price.
And finally, some interesting details regarding to the CD (NetBSD) I
was looking for in Israel (maybe off topic): Since I didn't find it
in Israel, I ordered one from InfoMagic, by FedEx. Of course, instead
of paying $35 only (for the CD), I should add $37 (for the delivery).
But it is not the whole story... It took 36 hours to go from Arizona
to Lod (about 0.002 hours per kilometer), and additional 80 (!) hours
to go from Lod to Kfar-Saba (about 2.5 hours per kilometer, 1250
times the int'l way). I didn't expect any compensation (after all,
Flying Cargo is an Israeli company, not an American one), but at
least an apology. Instead, they demanded additional 82 Sheqels, for
tax (what tax, the hell?) and storage !!! Yes, Maman stored the CD
3 days, because of the delay of Flying Cargo, and I was charged!
Conclusion: Buy everything in Israel. And if you must use int'l
delivery, don't do it by FedEx. FedEx is OK, but not its Israeli rep.
Thanks in advance,
