http://www.postgresql.org/comp-comparison.shtml
this is far from being complete (anyone willing to send them more info?),
but shows mini-SQL is inferior, and AFAIR, MySQL is derived from MiniSQL
and is not much more sophisticated (corrections, anyone?)

as for the price:
http://www.tcx.se/FAQ/mysql-faq.html#SEC16
read again, anyone can use MySQL for free, yet he may not SELL a product
that uses it or needs it without licensing first. Since I can see myself
building apps for personal and commercial use with it, but not selling
them, I don't see a problem (and if I ever sell it, I won't have any
problem paying for it either...)

the important part is they are both net-accessible, have interfaces to
multiple languages, including PHP/FI and perl that are most useful/popular
for web apps.

now we need a site that actually measures time benchmarks. anyone? (yes,
I'm looking for the right DB engine too)
