Well.. I've got a 486DX2/66 here and the only wisdom I can share is that,
running Linux, it's far from obsolete. I've currently got X, several
XTerms, Netscape and xemacs running together in perfect harmony, as well
as all the 'background noise' (aka the Daemons of Death). Other than the
fact it took xemacs several minutes to load, there's no significant
difference in performance than on the expensive SGI at work (note I said
'significat'. There obviously IS a difference, but it's far from being
disruptive). 

If I upgrade anything on my computer, it'll be memory. I've got 16megs
now, which is pretty much bottom-line of usefulness. I can't see how
upgrading will ever be neccesary, as I don't see Linux-Apps getting more
resource-demanding anytime soon. Then again, we'd better wait for Netscape
4 for Linux... (:
