Yes, I have given this option some thought, and it cannot be rulled-out
altogether, but it has some problems
1. Hacking the kernel in order to compile an applications is more like
porting the kernel to the application than the other way around.
2. If I want to play it safe, I'd better use a separate partition for
this "modified-ext2" fs, since it might ruin some of my files, which
differ only in case. Since I currently have no free partitions on my
disks, I guess this more or less makes it unusable for me right now.
On the other hand, it might serve as a last resort...
