cool hack, but far from perfect, there is always a chance two people
called at the same time and the machanism would go wrong. especially on
busy systems with high loads, where processes might get lower priority for
a sec or two and miss the result by then. a wrapper process is the right
thing to do. an interesting solution for it might come from daemon-tools:
ftp://koobera.math.uic.edu/www/daemontools.html although this package is a
lot more than a wrapper for pppd :-)
