Some technical question

Hi !!!
I have compiled the new kernel (2.0.30) but the problem is that this
kernel couldn't recognize my harddisk. The old one (2.0.0) worked well
(the default kernel that was taken from install of Slackware 3.1 - bare)
but the new one get confused with LBA of HDD - 527 cyl, 255 heads, 63
sectors, because it doesn't get 255 physical heads.
The kernel wrote that it's making probing with STATUS instead of ALTSTATUS
and gets 255 heads as 255 physical ones and just stops working. The old
one recornize exactly the HDD(Quantum BigFoot 4.3) and everything works
fine. When I tryed to move to kernel command line the hda=noprobe and
hda=527,255,63, I got the same.Could anyone help me to configure this
thing out ?
TIA
