thank you for your help. I would like you to specify the following two
small details:
1) is httpd running off inetd or stand-alone
2) did you telnet exactly once or more. (Try like three times in a row
then look).
The time-wait state of a socket is something that should not appear under
these circumstances. I don't know what you know about socks but I have
socks with SO_LINGER = off and they should die very fast. The only way
sockets grow there is when a child is not born to serve the connection as
I had described.
Also, httpd does not log child fork failures (my server does).
Perhaps I will prepare a test prog for you to compile and run if it will
not be too complicated.
