kernel upgrade with RH4.1
hi,
I recently reinstalled linux from a RH4.1 cd which is based on version
2.0.27 of the kernel (compiled for 386).
I wanted to rebuild using 2.0.30, however I wasn't able to do it (the
system wouldn't start, even after recompiling the same kernel).
I was using 'make xconfig' in '/usr/src/linux', which worked well for
both my old distribution, and debian 1.2.5 I recently installed.
what have I done wrong?
BTW, is there any way to upgrade to RH4.2 via ftp, using a dialup
connection. if not, does anyone carry 4.2 cd's.
thanx,
hanan
p.s. one of my reasons for recompiling was to setup the sound
parameters. is there any other way to do that (without recompilation)
