perl RPM
I learned my lesson... don't upgrade vital parts of the system too
quickly... the contrib RPM directory always brought in new important
stuff, one day a bug was discussed in BUGTRAQ, and perl was supposed to be
updated that week. as soon as perl-5.003_97g-1 appeared, I upgraded and
all hell broke loose (mirror stopped working, so did my log analyzers and
webcopy. everyone complained about configuration mistakes and bugs in the
source).
now I found perl-5.003-8 (older version, but a more mature package, you
must admit) and force-up(down)graded it into the system, and things seem
to be back to normal... the older perl was in the official upgrades
directory, I won't dare upgrade perl's core from the contribs again.
