Hello, my name is Eugene O'Neil (eugene@cs.umb.edu) and I am implementing an X
Window library in pure Java. I am still in the early stages of development, but
I think I have enough of it working to demonstrate the basic principles.

Unlike most other X Window libraries, my library does not depend on xlib,
or even contain a single line of "native" C code. Instead, it
communicates directly with the X window display over a TCP/IP connection
(or any other reliable byte-stream you might care to implement) using the
raw X11R6 protocol.

it is simple, extensible, object-oriented, multi-threaded,
platform-independant, reasonably fast, and does not require massive
amounts of memory. Also unlike Motif, it is absolutely free for any
purpose, including use in commercial software.

PS: I suggest you run it on Kaffe, a nice JIT compiler:
