Yes.
1. You *must* use the same device for *everything* (it says this in
the mgetty manual). Each program will make a lock file with the name
of the device. If you use different devices then the different
programs can think the device is free when it isn't.
2. You *must* make sure that all programs put lock files in the same
directory (/var/lock is a good choice) and use the same style of lock
files (binary or ascii).
3. You *must* read the mgetty info pages and configure mgetty
appropriately for your system. mgetty isn't one of those things that
you can just drop in without problems - you'll have to edit the config
file (where ever it may be - this is a compile time option), and you
might even have to recompile it. There are enough flakey modems
around that you might have to experiment with config settings to get
it to work.
