Of course. I PPP through /dev/ttyS1 99.9% of the time, while still
being
able to forward incoming faxes from my mailbox at work to my modem
without
having to change anything. Minicom also works fine. You just have to
configure them (pppd and mincom) to lock the device as mgetty expects.
Read the docs - they all say that /dev/cua is depracated and was left
for
backwards compatibility, mgetty's locking (together with pppd's,
minicom's
and other application's cooperation) takes care of the exclusive use of
the
device.
