RC5 challange - where are you people?
Hi,
It looks like there are only three people from Israel on the RC5
challange.
Look at http://www.distributed.net/rc5 for more details. Soon there
will be better clients (version 2) which can buffer multiple key blocks
and lots of other usefull features. Meanwhile you better run your own
"personal proxy". You are also welcome to use a personal proxy at
kiwi.efratdsp.co.il if you like (report to me, even by phone at
052-722-756, if it stops responding).
The protocol allows very very long timeout periods (actually, until
the key space is exhausted, only then unreturned keys will be
re-issued) so it is possible to grab a few dozens of keys, let the
machine work on them for a few days while disconnected from the net,
then report them back.
For those who wonder what's the point in all this - these
challanges are aimed at showing the U.S. government (and other
governments?) that their export restrictions allow only breakable
(and therefore useless) encryption technology to be used on the
Internet.
For other challanges, look at the page mentioned above.
Cheers,
