Sounds like you do not have scsi support in your kernel. Show us your
.config. Before the above lines you should have had something like:
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: aic7xxx: BurstLen = 8 DWDs, Latency
Timer = 32 PCLKS
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: aic7xxx: devconfig = 0x580.
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: aic7xxx: Reading SEEPROM...done.
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: aic7xxx: Extended translation disabled.
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: aic7xxx: Memory check yields 16 SCBs,
paging not enabled.
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: AHA-2940 (PCI-bus), I/O 0x6000, Mem
0xf0410000:
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: irq 10
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: bus release time 40 bclks
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: data fifo threshold 100
Jan 5 22:04:02 tango kernel: SCSI CHANNEL A:
Jan 5 22:04:03 tango kernel: scsi id 7
Jan 5 22:04:03 tango kernel: scsi selection timeout 256 ms
Jan 5 22:04:03 tango kernel: scsi bus reset at power-on enabled
Jan 5 22:04:03 tango kernel: scsi bus parity enabled
Jan 5 22:04:03 tango kernel: aic7xxx: Downloading sequencer code...done.
Jan 5 22:04:03 tango kernel: aic7xxx: Resetting the SCSI bus...done.
then,
Jan 5 22:04:03 tango kernel: scsi0 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x
(EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 4.0/3.2/4.0
Jan 5 22:04:03 tango kernel: scsi : 1 host.
Also, /proc/devices should include sd as a block device, i.e. you should
see this in /proc/devices:
[root@tango root]# cat /proc/devices
Character devices:
1 mem
2 pty
3 ttyp
4 ttyp
5 cua
7 vcs
Block devices:
2 fd
3 ide0
8 sd
~~
I hope this helps, but you sure don't give us much info to go on!
