kernel modules in 2.1.x

hi,

I just installed Linux from CD, but it was 1.3.x, so I upgraded (libs,
gcc, utils, XFree and kernel) from the internet.
The problem was when I tried to use modules in either 2.0.x, or 2.1.x,
when I tried to install the modules (ppp, etc.) using either 'kerneld &
modprobe' , or 'insmod', even just running 'depmod -a' reported many
unresolved symbols in the modules (e.g. 'printk'..).

Does any one know how to set up modules for the new kernels (I upgraded
the 'modutils')?

p.s. I was also getting a message like: 'routenot set for netmask', any
ideas? is there an easier way to set up PPP, than diald & chat.
