QIC-02 Tape Controller
Hi Hevre!
(regarding to my previous question: I'll have a summary in a few
days, after everything will run successfully, or am I optimistic?)
I have an old tape, which was the most standard one in the early
90's (developed by Maynard, sold by Archive which purchased Archive,
then Archive was purchased by Conner, then Conner was purchased by
Seagate...). Its controller is a standard QIC-02 (called also PC-02,
or VP-402, or SC-402). I used this tape for much time under SVR4,
and now I want to use it under Linux. In addition, I have dozens of
6150 cartridges and I don't have any other way to read/use them.
The how-to says that since 1.2.? kernel (I don't remember the exact
one) it has a built-in support. I have a RedHat-4.1; What should I
do in order to utilize it? Should I re-compile the kernel? Then
why it is called a "built-in" support?
I know about ftape; Its documentation says that it is not for
QIC-02 which has a built-in support, but for 117.
BTW: I had to put my Creative-SB out because it used the same DMA
(1) and the same IRQ (5). Is there any way to set (temporarily)
these parameters dynamically by software? I can give up using
each of them when using the other (i.e. I don't need a background
sound when I back-up my files, and the same vice-versa...)
And one word in another subject: If the installation will be
completed successfully, I think I'll have an impressive
demonstration for June (Computax? Internet-World?)
Thanks in advance,
