Well, so don't use Verisign. Who is Verisign? Just one more company. There
are CA's that will gladly issue a certificate for Apache and provide you
with detailed instructions on how to install it (Thawte for example -
except that it took some longer than they promised, I'm completely
satisfied with their service). 
And if Verisign doesn't want my money - this is Verisign's problem, not
mine or of Apache ;)

The idea is floating in the air for some time, but since I think Apache
team has much to to without it, such a project would be great. I'm sure
there will be a number of people that would like to help when the project
starts.
