Re: NTP (Network Time Protocol)

In message <3347694F.4109583C@research.haifa.ac.il> you write:
|Dear Amos,
|I runed ntpdate.
|I finded the server that good for me (minimal time and number of
|routing)/etc/ntp.conf
|I configured /etc/ntp.conf
|
|server 128.139.6.1
|server 127.127.1.1
|server 132.66.12.2
|server 132.68.7.2
|server 147.233.128.1
|server 192.77.171.2
|server 140.221.10.70
|#server 128.139.200.16
|logfile /var/log/xntpd
|driftfile /var/lib/ntp/ntp.drift # path for drift file
|statsdir /var/log/ntpstats/ # directory for statistics files
|monitor yes
|
|1. What is "ntp.drift # path for drift file"

You don't want to know. Just give it a filename which isn't removed
easely (e.g. under /var/log or something).

|2. when I try to start xntpd it start and immediatly down

What do you mean? Did you check that the server runs after you saw it
"go down"? It might be forking off and let you have your precious
shell prompt back. What messages do you see? Did you check the
system logs?

|3. for every command in xntpdc I get "xntpdc: read: Connection refused"

Looks like it's down.
