Well, I use diskettes mainly to transfer small files (configuration
files, sources during writing, small applications etc.) between machines
lacking net connectivity. Tar is very efficient indeed, but I find it a
bit slow and cumbersome when the need is to copy one or two small files
out of several dozens.
Anyway, the main reason I always use ext2 diskettes when transferring
files between unix boxes is just opposite to Alexander's original
argument against them. Diskettes are unreliable media. ext2 diskettes
have the same amount of media failures as dos ones, but my experiance is
that error recovery is much better with ext2.
