Re: man to HTML CGI script
Yes, I have tried 2-3 scripts. They are buggy mostly so I wrote a C
program... I could send you a working copy for evaluation. It works like a
filter. Basically you have a form and a CGI script (shell) that serves the
manpage using the man command (no args, i.e. ascii) and you filter it
through this program I wrote. Does ftp and http markup, also mailto and
cross references pages (but it is not perfect as it marks up on text meant
for vt terminals really, not on groff source).
Advantage: Pages marked up look exactly as on a vt terminal. Literally.
Very fast (written with gprof in hand), about 500k/sec on 486/100 under
load.
Disadvantage: Sometimes fails in the markup, i.e. marks up things that
should not be marked up and vice versa. The xreffing of manpages is
limited to those that are referenced as 'this(n)' where n is a number or
n,x,o.
I used a script and form by a greek guy (Panaghiotis Christia
@thesea.ntua.gr) for base. The C code is mine.
