Why they do so? Because they think that the only money lies in M$-land.
So getting them to understand the message that they are losing their money
on ignoring non-M$ platforms is a good thing. I am sure that if
someone like ATI or HP would take a fraction of time that takes them to
make CD full of useless trickies and pictures for M$, and spend the
time to write a driver for Linux / BSD /
whatever-not-having-95-or-NT-in-its-name, or at least publish details
on how to do it, they would have some money on it. The task
is now to deliver this message to the pointy-haired management in said
companies, because their are making decisions on what driver gets written
and which API gets published, and not programmers.
When (and if) the volume of messages will be large enough to influence
decision-making process - we all are winning, including the companies,
since they will have competitive advantages over one-platform ones.
