Mark,
First when you put your cd as slave on second IDE check whether your
system recognizes it. What system do you have 486 or 586?
As I have installed on few pentiums the cdrom first I was looking whether
system recognizes it -- you know the summary table you get before
lilo boot prompt with what kind of processor how much memory and etc...
So it should write your CDROM there. Check it!!!
It might be not a Linux problem but some collisions.
You can easily checking it by doing
#> dmesg
command and see like mine
hda: WDC AC32100H, 2014MB w/128kB Cache, LBA, CHS=1023/64/63, DMA
hdc: Pioneer CD-ROM ATAPIModel DR-UA124X 0100, ATAPI CDROM drive
you should get some:
hda: Disk
hdb: Disk
hdc: Disk
hdd: CDROM
try it now...
