Foreword:

How many times "PC=Windows"-people have seen some PC thinking, that there
is some DOS and/or Windows installed, when there is Linux instead? How
many times you have seen somebody booting some public Linux-PC, maybe even
with power-switch, trying to start DOS or Windows that is not installed
there? How many people seem to think, that it's no use to install Linux,
because no-one else does not do so, either? Should there be some way to
distinguish PC:s running Linux (and computers of other architectures with
Linux installed) from PC:s running DOS and/or Windows (and for example
Mac's running MacOS, Alphas running Digital Unix, OpenVMS or Windows NT
and Sparc's running Solaris)?

Let's tell the world we use Linux and have it installed in our computers!
It's time to promote Linux in this way!: Let's stick at least one Linux
Penguin Sticker (LPS) to every possible computer having operating system
called Linux installed! Let's stick Linux Penguin Sticker to our
workroom's door! Lets give Linux Penguin Stickers to other Linux users and
people having access to computers having Linux installed! Lets give Linux
Penguin Stickers to owners, maintainers, operators and administrators of
computers having Linux installed! Let's call this thing Linux Penguin
Sticker Movement (LPSM)! Let's call ourselves Linux Penguin Sticker
Distributors (LPSD)!

How to get them?:

If you know somebody, that have Linux Penguin Stickers, ask him/her to
give you some.

If you want to create your own stickers, obtain necessary files from the
official homepage of Linux Penguin Sticker Movement and print them:

http://www.cc.jyu.fi/~juhtolv/linux-sticker/

Here is description of each file:

- - linux3x8.aw (Linux Penguin Stickers in Applixware 4.3-format)

- - linux3x8emb.aw (Same file as above, but Linux Penguin Logo is embedded
as a GIF so you must have logo2.gif in same directory with this file)

- - logo.gif (Linux Penguin Logo in GIF-format. Distributed with Linux
  kernel sources)

- - logo2.gif (Linux Penguin Logo in GIF-format. Reduced size.)

- - linux3x8.ps (Linux Penguin Stickers as a Post Script-file. You must
have at least this file)

- - EngBoot.aw & EngBoot.ps (Linux Booting Labels. Labels having text "Don't
switch off! If you really have to, then: Ctrl-Alt-Del". Only those
labels on one end of the sheet are printed. In Applixware 4.3- and Post
  Script-formats)

- - FinBoot.aw & FinBoot.ps (Same as above but text is in Finnish)

- - MANIFESTO (This file)

Obtain some colour ink and A4-sized sheets having self adhesive labels.
Those labels must be this sized 70 mm x 37 mm so there are 3x8=18 labels
on each sheet. Put those sheets to printer and print Linux Penguin
Stickers on them. Then put those sheets to printer again and print those
Linux Booting Labels to end of those sheets. Put those sheet to printer
third time so that the other end will be printed with Linux Booting
Labels. Now you have some Linux Penguin Stickers (and Linux Booting
Labels).

How to spread them?

Stick at least one Linux Penguin Sticker to every computer having Linux
installed you yourself own, maintain or administrate.

If you know some other computer with Linux installed, ask permission for
sticking of Linux Penguin Sticker from owner, maintainer, operator or
administrator of that computer or give him/her some Linux Penguin Stickers
and read him these hints and/or enclose Manifesto of Linux Penguin Sticker
Movement with stickers.

Give Linux Penguin Stickers to every person having some access to some
computer with Linux installed and read him these hints or enclose this
Manifesto of Linux Penguin Sticker Movement with them.

If you use Linux in your work, you can also stick one Linux Penguin
Sticker to your workroom's door and ask other Linux users in your
workplace to do so, too.

Suitable place for sticking of Linux Penguin Sticker is that side of the
computer, that is most clearly visible for as many people as possible.

Legal mumbo-jumbo:

You can freely use, distribute and stick Linux Penguin Stickers and all
files available in aforementioned official homepage of Linux Penguin
Sticker Movement, but I, Juhapekka Tolvanen, and other Linux Penguin
Sticker Distributors are not responsible of any use or misuse of them,
intended or unintended.

Linux Penguin Logo used in Linux Penguin Stickers is the full-colour
version of the currently unofficial Linux logo ("currently unofficial"
just means that there has been no paperwork and that it haven't really
been announced yet). It was created by Larry Ewing, and is freely usable
as long as you acknowledge Larry as the original artist.

Note that there are black-and-white versions of that logo available that
scale down to smaller sizes and are better for letterheads or whatever
you want to use it for: for the full range of logos take a look at
Larry's web-page:

        http://www.isc.tamu.edu/~lewing/linux/

I don't mind, if somebody design some new Linux Penguin Sticker-versions.
Hopefully they still can be considered as part of Linux Penguin Sticker
Movement. But I, Juhapekka Tolvanen and other Linux Penguin Distributors
are not responsible of them, too.

I really hope, you keep that original Linux Penguin and Linux-text in
major role in layout of new Linux Penguin Stickers you create. IMHO any
references to certain Linux-kernel-series are useless, because for
example sticker with text "Linux 2.0" can not be sticked on computer with
Linux-kernel of series 2.1.* installed. And IMHO it's no use to create
sticker with some references to certain hardware-platforms running Linux
or Linux-distributions. It's cheaper and more simple to create common
Linux-stickers to every distribution, kernel-version and
hardware-platform of Linux.

You can send this manifesto and other files available from Linux Penguin
Sticker Movements homepage via E-Mail, Snail-Mail or other such medium,
but please do not spam. You yourself are responsible of any spamming.
E-Mail-Spamming is bad, because many people must pay high fees for all
that time they use reading and skipping useless mail. Before you send
any items of Linux Sticker Movement to anybody, ask permission beforehand,
if possible.

All trademarks mentioned are owned by their respective owners.

Who am I?

I am nerdish and geekish student of sociology. I study in University of
Jyv&he;skyl&he;, Finland. I use and advocate Linux. Find out more from
my homepage:

http://www.cc.jyu.fi/~juhtolv/

P.S: I would really like to know, or at least have some idea, how many
people actually spread Linux Penguin Stickers and how much. And I'm not
sure about, if this text have some grammmatical and/or spelling errors.
And also other comments are welcome. You can send me E-Mail:
