Trying to connect to Sitcom from Linux
A friend is connected to the Internet via the ISP Sitcom.
He successfully uses Windows 95 for Internet surfing.
However, he wants to use also Linux for this purpose.
We tried to configure ppp to connect him to the Internet.
According to what /var/log/messages shows, the script
successfully transmits username and password.
But then one of the sides (not clear which) issues a
"challenge" (CHAP or PAP) and it seems to be left
unanswered, but I am not sure about this.
(Flame me, but I can't reproduce the relevant /var/log/messages
section here because it is on my friend's PC, few kilometers
away from where I am sending this message.)
We even tried to use the refuse-pap and refuse-chap options.
But they didn't help.
Then according to /var/log/messages, a ppp connection is
established and immediately disconnected and the modem
hangs up.
Of course, Sitcom Customer Support people don't know
anything about connecting Linux users to the Internet.
Can anyone advise what can be done?
ObMarcAsbestoSuit: I already searched the Linux-IL mailing
list archives for the keyword "sitcom" - no hits at all; and for
the keyword "ppp" - several messages but none pertaining
to connection to any Israeli ISP.
Thanks,
--- Omer
