aha. read about so-called 'mode servers'. i've seen some in the win3.X
days, where a driver attached to IRQ 14 redirected serial port requests to
a modem server over the LAN. i'd assume those still exist in the happy
win32 days. they are much easier to do now that all serial port access
must be done via the system's API.
as for the port redirection omer suggested, i'm afraid you'll need to find
a way to pass not only data between the com ports, but also flow-control
signals, or you'll get very low performance. i might be wrong, thought.
on the other hand, look at this url, a windows-modem sharing howto:
http://sunsite.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/mini/Windows-Modem-Sharing.html
caveat: the client side he suggest is a commercial product. but there used
to be a program named 'COMT' or something similar for win 3.X, maybe it
got ported to win95 as well. it's a shareware thing, get it from
ftp://ftp.std.com/customers/software/rfdmail/comt.zip (but maybe this is
the win3.X version).
