Computax '98 (+thanks)
Before talking about Computax, I must thank all of the responders.
rpm2cpio is indeed the answer for my question, but Midnight
Commander looks cool for this type of job.
As you all know, I intended to exhibit at Computax '98. I ordered
the booth many months ago, when I thought I would be ready with
the new cool stuff. I worked very hard, but couldn't finish the
product, or even a beta.
Since I was one of the firsts to order a booth, I got wonderful
terms, such as a cheap price - $1600+VAT (well, the booth is small,
but in one of the best locations), etc. I ordered also 2 ports of
10BaseT (connected directly to Netvision) + phone line, all for a
funny extra money.
I want to cancel my participation, and to give the rights to
linux-il, if the friends here will be willing to share the costs
with me (let's say, about a half). In previous times, the
participation of linux-il in exhibitions failed since the costs
were too high ($2000-$3000). I think that cost of about $900 for
a booth in a good location is almost a gift.
I believe that contrary to previous times, this time some of us
(especially consultants and guys who look for work) can even make
money out of this exhibition; Don't forget, the Open-Source is the
hottest buzz-word of the city, and organizations and hi-tech
companies are looking for support obsessively. They will be happy
to hire people who will help this Linux-booth to be successful.
And of course, we can sell CDs (as in previous times), and make
additional $300-$400.
Another idea that we can try this time: To produce hundreds (or
even more) brochures with a list of Linux and open-source
consultants, and to distribute them in the exhibition. The "cost"
for one who wants to be mentioned in this list, will be (for
example) $80.
We have only 2 weeks (in previous times we had less :-) so any
decision must be taken QUICKLY.
P.S. Any forward of rights involves an agreement of Stier. But I
believe it is not a problem. Especially considering that linux-il
is not for profit. Stier will not be so cruel.
