RedHat 5.1
(News that slashdot will know only next week)
Do you still unbelieve RedHat 5.1 is so near?
Well, look at this file which I succeeded to steal:
ftp://elmar.co.il/tmp2/RH-5.1-Manual.tgz
But don't be happy: RedHat's original idea was to announce a new
version before Linux Expo (May 28-30), with all the new releases
and packages. These packages (GiMP 1.0, Apache 1.3.0, Mesa 3.0,
PHP3, etc.) were about to be launched on April. Unfortunately,
the announcements were delayed again and again, and now all of
them are already in a "Release-Candidate" stage - but still not
final releases :-(
I'm almost sure that the final releases will be announced in the
following days, but RedHat doesn't have time anymore, and must
launch 5.1 (because of Linux Expo), so this disappointing release
is going to be very similar to 5.0, without all of this new and
exciting stuff.
BTW: Apache 1.3b7 is going to be available tomorrow, and the final
1.3.0 is expected on May 19. Don't tell anybody (including slashdot
and freshmeat), it's a secret ;-)
Note: Apache for Win32 still has many problems, but the near
announcement became possible since the Apache Group decided to
announce only a UNIX version and not delay 1.3.0 becuase of the
Win32 port, which will be available later. Except for this
decision, the main issue concerning the members of Apache Group
currently is a feature I suggested (which was accepted), so you
can blame me for the last delay...
