Oh, sorry, I did not noticed you said "inetd". Well, I've run samba,
dns, squid and http as daemons from rc.d in my former (Sun Solaris
SPARC) machine, so it should be possible also in Linux.
I don't know why, but I became used to call daemons only what starts
from rc.d, not what is started by inetd. My failure again...

Anyway, this should be no problem unless you had quite a big load on
the syslogd.
