Linux-based FAX server for Windows 3.11/Windows 95 clients?
First of all, the most general question:
Ira Abramov does good job of sending us Linux-Announce messages about interesting new
software packages for Linux. Is there any repository or archive of all packages announced in
those messages, which can be searched using keywords?
More specific question:
I am responsible for maintaining a Windows 3.11 based LAN.
Recently the network was upgraded by addition of a server, which is based upon Linux.
It provides printing and file services using the Samba package. In addition, some new
computers running Windows 95 were added to the network.
In the network, there is a computer with a FAXmodem, and it provides FAX service to the
entire network. Currently it runs Windows 3.11, and uses Microsoft's network FAX software.
We found that the FAX server can't service the new Windows 95 computers.
One possible way to solve the problem is to move the FAXmodem to the Linux based server
and install there a FAX message.
The question: is there any FAX message which can receive files and send them by FAX - not
only locally or from other Linux machines, but also from Windows 3.11 and Windows 95
client machines? I assume that for this purpose, the software package will have to include also
modules, which will be installed like printer drivers in Microsoft based machines.
Or is there any other obvious solution which I overlooked?
