Mass Order of RedHat 5.1 from CheapBytes
Hello all! (this message is sent to all the people who were interested
in ordering the CheapBytes package of RedHat 5.1, and Linux-IL is CC
to this message, since there are many people who are interested too.
Please don't include Linux-IL in your replies, otherwise hundreds will
have to read your private needs etc.)
We are proud to announce the mass order of the CheapBytes package of
RedHat 5.1. This order is done as a service to the public, with no
intention of profit, but to meet the following purposes:
1. To meet the demand of many people who visited our booth at Computax
and were disappointed to find that all the CDROMs were sold.
2. To promote Linux in Israel.
Since this order is done as a service, the terms are very strict, and
if you don't agree with one or more of these terms, you are invited to
order your CDROM in the following sources, instead of us:
1. http://www.redhat.com
2. http://www.cheapbytes.com
3. http://www.tcltek.co.il
4. http://www.pf1.co.il
5. http://www.softsrcs.co.il
Again, our purpose is that you will have Linux, install it, and use it,
no matter where you obtain it. We will be glad to help these companies
to sell more packages to you.
Terms:
=====
1. El-Mar and/or Eli Marmor don't have any guarantee to anything,
except for ordering the packages from CheapBytes, posting to you,
and replacing defected MEDIAs (but no guarantee for low quality
software). In addition, neither El-Mar nor Eli Marmor will give you
any support or service, even for the initial installation. We only
try to save you the extra money and time in ordering from America.
Although you are invited to join Linux-IL and to get help (more
information will be available with your package), please read the
manual before posting questions to the list, otherwise you will be
blamed for bothering the people here, and will receive replies such
as "RTFM" :-)
2. Deadline for orders: June 29, 1998 (Monday), till 10:30. Sorry, I
know that it is very short, but we have limitations.
3. Orders must be done by Visa or Isracard. No cash and/or check
(unless the money can be HERE before the deadline). Because of Visa
and Isracard rules, we are not allowed to receive your details
electronically (by e-mail, SSL, etc.), but only by phone or fax.
4. Only standard orders will be honoured. You cannot order special
services, packages, the official RedHat (the package with the book),
splitting to 12/24/36 payments, discounts, etc.

Plus some Hebrew information (e.g. address of Linux-IL, etc.).
Ordering:
========
Give your Visa/Isracard details (name, number, expiration date, your
address, phone number, and ID - number of Teudat-Zehut) to me in one of
the following ways:
1. Call 050-237338, and receive the number of the phone that I am near,
not cellular (unless you don't care your number will be heard by
somebody else), then call me again to the second number.
2. When I'm at home: 09-7679863.
3. Fax: 09-766-1314. Please note: about a tenth (1/10) of the faxes can
not talk with mine, because of a problem. If you receive an error
message when faxing me, you will have to call me.
4. As mentioned: No e-mail, no SSL, no PGP. These are the rules of
Visa/Isracard. You can disagree (as me), but we don't have anything
to do with it. Sorry.
5. You may want to try 09-766-1020. This number follows me, so you have
a high chance to catch my cellular.
Phone calls during Shabbat will not be answered (though fax is 24
hours).
Times:
=====
The packages are ordered from CheapBytes by an express delivery, on
Monday. You will be provided with the tracking number, so you will have
a URL that you can use to track the exact location of the packages, in
any minute. Once the packages will be freed by the Israeli Tax, they
will be delivered from us directly to you (of course, after adding the
boot diskettes and some Hebrew material). If the total balance will be
positive (i.e. the costs will be less than your payments), the packages
will be posted via express service of Rashut-HaDoar, otherwise - as a
standard package delivery.
FAQ:
===
Q. I saw that CheapBytes RedHat 5.1 costs $1.99. Why do you charge so
much?
A. Yes, the net price is $1.99, but there are about extra dozen costs
which we have to pay: Shipping to Israel, shipping from us to you IN
Israel, boot diskette, the extra packages that we must order
(because always there are some defected medias), the commision of
the credit card companies, un-confirmed deals, etc. In addition,
there are always unexpected costs, such as taxes (yes, I know that
American software SHOULD be free of any Israeli tax except for VAT,
but the dumb taxers in Lod don't know it. In addition, they love to
delay packages a few days in Maman, and then to charge you for
"keeping" it for you...).
The expected costs sum $7, plus up to $5 for unexpected costs, so
with a price of $10.94, I hope not to loose money.
Q. Will I get the official RedHat, with the nice book, etc.?
A. No, the official package costs (list price) $49.95, and with the
shipping, it may exceed $80. But you have the book on-line (the
CDROM includes it), and we attach a boot diskette. In addition, the
official package contains 2 extra software packages (in addition to
hundreds which are built-in with the un-official too): BRU-2000 (a
backup package), and an alternative X-server (Metro-Link). We don't
think that these two extra packages deserve the extra money for the
official package.
Best wishes,
