Re: Red Hat 5:0 <-> RH 4.2
I recently forced to upgrade my system (my Quantum FB died on me... :(()
and so I may report about installation of RH5.

Well, it's glibc. About X - it is indeed configured in some strange manner
- all XF86Setup variants I looked on refused to run, for example.

Well, seems it's pretty stable, just install upgrades. But some parts
really need cleaning up. Disk Druid, for example, refused to partition my
disk, saying there is no space - on clean disk, and then, when it did work
finally, it made a real mess of it - didn't put swap type on swap
partition, forgot about DOS one, etc. fdisk is still your friend ;). And
some other "GUI" tools also do not work so good.
And shadow still is not in by default...
Also, the kernel is still .32 (even in last upgrades). Not too much of
problem - download anything you wish.
Except that, everything looks good. And about stability - I think it's
more of kernel and daemons' matter, and they are pretty the same
everywhere.

I've compiled ssh via autoconf without any troubles. Didn't have time yet
to compile anything other. But seems that it works. Maybe you didn't
install some vital packages?
