As much as I hate this, I think Bill's idea predated KDE.

The original KDE port was dated 14/10/1996, and can be found in:

If you will read carefully, you will see that Matthias Ettrich DID NOT
mention the Internet/desktop integration theme at the time. He *DID*
mention an HTML based help system, but that's all.

So, the "Active Desktop" concept was there, even before KDE group was
formed.

I don't mind flaming microsoft (and we have enough reasons to), but
sometimes it's better to check the facts first.
