Re: From Maariv of 29.1.98
A more up-to-date version of linux-lp is being ftped to ftp2... now. Do
not expect many changes, but the bugettes were reduced violently. It
should replace the older version on ftp.linux.org.il
I have a new version in the works, it will be based on 2.0.27 (linux-lp is
1.2.13), and will allow the ramdisk to be saved, thus becoming a viable
DOS replacement (I use it as such to program hardware cards (ISA) and
other beasts). This is a future project, as I have to hack a compressed
save (umount call) algorythm into the kernel.
Please notify if you are interested in an 'installer's' version of
linux-lp144. I have been using this a lot myself, as rescue disk etc. It
contains e2fsck mke2fs mkswap, editor, usual file utils. I have succeeded
to add ethercard support while maintaining all the utils. I will squeeze
in telnet / telnetd and ftp / ftpd later, probably at the expense of the
bash (will be ash instead). This should make it possible to install Linux
using only one floppy, from a network, or from some sort of ftp server
(plip is supported, maybe even ppp). The version that works now has only
the rescue tools on it, and no network support. This one is NOT meant for
newbies. I suppose that I don't have to explain this here.
I have very little spare time now, so please notify within about a week or
so about your intentions and desires. Be realistical (I have about 20k
free for now on the floppy).
regards,
Peter
PS: It was not necessary to browse that page with graphics on for that.
The text version got me going well enough, as you have noticed ;)
