Re: Website content-management software project
Well, I should expect it in advance...
I think we should arrange the mini-conference ASAP, and transfer
the discussions to a smaller mailing list QUICKLY. While Linux-IL
is good for many purposes, it is a very bad forum for developmnets.
I already faced this in the past. It is impossible to have serious
discussions and development process in a forum of hundreds of
people, especially israelis, but only religious wars. While Israel
is behind many of the advanced software products around the world,
and ranked as number 2 after America, please name ONE famous Open-
Source and/or GPL which was developed in Israel (except for the
cool XBanner of Amit Margalit, who did not use Linux-IL to develop
it).
I think that our defected nature causes us to end everything
positive in religious wars and blames. I had many good intentions.
And Shachar. And Shlomi. Is it really bad to thank and compliment
volunteers for joining this "ambitious" project? Does it mean that
I am AGAINST (!) the project? I am the original initiator of it!
And when somebody offer a place in the technion (thank you Shachar,
you are great again!), instead of thanking him, you say that Haifa
is too far? A drive of an hour and something to Haifa is too much,
but a project of thousands of hours is "a rather easy"? Or you
just don't know what we are dealing with? So come to this
conferecne and hear! Companies like Microsoft, Eventus, MKS, Sun,
and others invested much more and didn't succeed, but you think
that this project is "rather easy"?
P.S. I mentioned the issue of financing only as an option. You are
all welcome to this conferecne to offer alternatives. I am not the
"owner" of the project, but only its original initiator and somebody
who did an extensive design of it. I also know many companies who
will be glad to adopt it. But please remember, that even Richard
Stallman, the most extreme GPL/Open-Source activator, is sponsored.
And we, as Israelis, are in a more complex situation, since we can
not develop anything useful through a mailing list, so somebody must
pay some people to sit in ONE PLACE and develop this tool. I lost my
last trust in mailing lists as a tool to develop software in Israel.
The thing that was so good for Apache, will not work in Israel.
P.S.^2: If you want me to get blames and flames in a good spirit,
than please remember that my e-mail address is <marmor@elmar.co.il>
and not <linux-il@linux.org.il>. And if you want to get very
detailed answers, you can just call me (050-237338) (Omer, you don't
have to ask that again, your e-mails are welcome anytime, and make
me happy!).
