Moreover, even the old-fashion people (including the VAXers Meir
mentioned) already upgraded their sendmail to an updated version (or
even installed qmail or another mail servers). Some mail servers have
relaying deny as their default. Others (e.g. the current sendmail)
can have it by adding some known rules to their conf files (e.g.
sendmail.cf or sendmail.mc). It seems that the next major version of
sendmail will have this option as default. In summary: the (old)
hardware does not have anything to do with blocking of spammers.
Since the spamming is going to be the main problem of the Internet
(in a few months), the law authorities in some countries consider
referring owners of mail servers as responsible for messages sent
using their server, especially when it was used for relaying. I know
some system administrators of universities, and this issue bothers
them. I hope you didn't mean that the Israeli universities are going
to help these criminals to destroy the Internet...
