Commercial Linux Support in Israel (X and Hebrew)
A few weeks ago I posted a message asking if anyone out there was
interested in providing us (Ministry of Health) with some Linux
support for pay. I essentially got no response. Now I know that one of
the main interests of this mailing list is to promote the use of Linux
in Israel. I also think that most people would agree that in order for
Linux to get going on a large scale there has to be commercial support
available - the fact that we help each other to do wonderful things
with our PCs at home, and even small businesses is great, but many
large businesses don't have/want to have a unix wizard on their
payroll. They want someone to come in, take care of the problems, and
collect their pay. That's what we're looking for. I'm sure I could
take care of everything myself (with the help of folks on this list),
but I just don't have the time. Isn't there anyone out there that can
help ? For us, and maybe for other companies, it would make all
difference between Linux really getting into our organization or now.
Our specific problem (or at least the first one we want taken care of)
involves X, Hebrew and VMS. Before I continue, let me say that I was
in contact with a few people - either because of answers received from
my previous message, or contacts I already had, but between the
Hebrew, the VMS and the fact that we are in Jerusalem, nothing worked
out. Anyway, the first thing we want to do with Linux is to use PCs
for work X terminals. That is, run an X server under Linux, and
display windows from other machines. The problem is that most of the
other machines are VMS machines, and the applications use Hebrew VT
graphics. Now, I have everything working on my Digital Unix
workstation, so I don't think the task is impossible. Furthemore, even
if the task is impossible, we won't know that until someone really
gives it a try.
Hope someone can help - I'd really like to see Linux established in
our organization !
All the best !
