Hebrew Type1 font typesetting
Hello,
Can someone explain (or point to a TFM (tm)) what are peculiarities of the
Hebrew Type1 font metrics? As far as I can tell, after playing a bit, an
entirely Hebrew string gets rasterized correctly (that's, of course, given the
order of characters in the string is reversed). Now, the really non-trivial
question is what are the rules for concatenating RotL and LtoR substrings? What
are (should be) the meanings of text advance etc? If an LtoR string is
concatenated to an RtoL one with a vertical offset (like for sub/superscripts),
what is the baseline position? And all the questions alike.
I'm not sure I was very clear, but let's put it another way. Suppose one wants
to extend a T1 rastering library to support Hebrew AND mixed typesettings. What
would be your requests for the API?
Regards,
Evgeny
