I have not yet been able to understand what the problem is with your
cards, however, the following might help:

I recently bought an NE2000 compatible PCI card (very cheap) which
worked first time under W95, but which refused to be recognized under
Linux. /proc/pci showed the card existed, but the driver couldn't find
it. The problem turned out to be that some new motherboards (I have an
Intel Atlanta) do not initialise all PCI cards at bootup. A special
driver (called NE2k-pci) is available which fixes this; its address is
available from the latest Ethernet-HOWTO, which is newer than the one
supplied with Redhat 5.0.

Please disredard this if it is totally irrelevant.
