Modem sharing under Linux?
For the following setup:
Two PC's, connected by Ethernet.
One PC runs Windows 95.
The other PC runs Linux.
There is a 33.6KBPS modem in the Linux-running PC.
I would like to let the Windows 95 PC use the modem, too, without
physically moving the modem from PC to PC each time I want to use it on
the Windows 95 machine.
Does anyone know about modem-sharing software, which allows a modem in a
Linux machine to be shared across a network, and be accessed by Windows 95
(and also Linux) clients?
Alternatively, another approach might be possible:
The Windows 95 PC has an unused serial port. This serial port can be
connected to COM2 (/dev/cua1) of the Linux machine (the modem is
physically at COM4 (/dev/cua3)).
Is it possible to develop a short program which polls COM2 continuously
and copies whatever it receives to COM4, and vice versa (even though both
serial ports share interrupts)? This program may run as root. Such a
program would let the Windows 95 PC pretend that it has a modem at its own
serial port.
If yes - where can I find more information about this?
