which environment?
well, I didn't test much either KDE or GNOME, from what I can see they try
to get a lot of widgets look and act like the latest microsoft stuff, with
extra add-ons as imagination would guide them. so if the looks are
similar, drag-and-drop is agreed to work, and apps are applenty (pun
intended), which is going to be my choice?
now, I know this is opening a can of worms and the start of a flame war,
so I'd prefer to direct this to technical channels, specifically I guess
things like speed and not necessarily features (the latter is a very tight
match as far as I could see from the little I explored)
the main thing that bothered me with the (more complete) KDE, running with
Kwm on SuSE 5.2 (libc) it was the slowest response from a graphic
environment (win manager AND apps) I have ever got on that machine (tested
ice, fvwm1/2/2-95, twm, windowmaker, many others including even E), and
slow by 50%-300%...
GNOME, tested under fvwm and RHL 5.2 (Glibc I suppose) is pretty slick and
fast, got no complaints here.
so, did anyone do any profiling on the QT and GTK+ libraries? What about
other core GNOME and KDE bits and pieces? Google didn't produce
anything...
