Re: Wierd Linux formatting prob with Western Digital's EZ-Drive.
There are some old machines out there that their BIOSes do not support
large hard drive. The first limit being 1024 cylinders (solved by the
LBA option in BIOSes) and there is another limit I forget.
Now Linux is almost not effected by this limitation because after boot
the BIOS is disregarded, but the problem is that in order to use large
hard disks on such a machine sometime a small poece of software known as
a "disk manager" is installed. This make it so that you can use large
disks on these machines with DOS/WINDOWS but also means you cannot
(usually) use Linux on this machine.
It is possible that you have installed such a "disk manager" on your HD
in the past (maybe even in the factory) and that is the cause of the
problem.
