Re: RedHat in Israel

Hi,

Let's get some facts straight and stop the rumor-mill:

Let me quote the PF1's VP of Marketing, Mr. Uriel Ben David:
"The previous e-mail is a plain b.s. We charge $69 for The Official
RedHat Linux 5.x, which is about NIS 334 including VAT. Take a look at
the following link:
http://commerce.isdn.net.il/mall/product_main.asp?&came%5Ffrom=mall%3Bheb&dept%5Fid=1111&pf%5Fid=PFRH%2DL5010&error=&back%5Fto%5Fbasket%5Fimg=

The target market for the Official RedHat Linux is corporate customers,
not individual users. The price listed on the RedHat Software Web site
is $49.99 (originally was $59.99). Our pricing is higher then abroad
because of the following reasons:
- we pay freight costs and related expenses;
- we have to give our dealers some margin in order to increase Linux
distribution base;
- we divert part of the profits from the Linux sells in order to
advertise, to develop unique Linux projects and to sponsor the Linux
activities in Israel.

What would linux-il subscribers prefer: a lower prices for the Official
set or a funds for spreading the word? If the interest from the
individual users will be considerable, we're ready to import/produce
cheap installation CD-ROMS. In addition, we can reach an agreement with
the RedHat Software to supply a free CD's for academic institutions, if
the volumes will be sufficient". End of quote.

That's right, consulting and commercial support.

The name of company is PF1 Systems Ltd. I'd bet that you have spoken to
Mr. Nir Arieli, our latest addition to the Linux team. And no, he will
not send unsolicited commercial messages to any mailing list.

Oh, yeah, DISKS, not the Official Redhat package. However, as the volume
of sales will rise, the price to the RedHat products will drop.

Happy New Year to all Linux-il members!
