I DID have a backup. ONCE, when I was RUNNING the site. Pull your head out
of your armpit and look around: I have sold my computer and sites to
tcltek, and moved to Silicon Valley, California, to be neighbours with
cool people like Linus, and uncool people like Steve, Marc, Larry and a
few more.
I do NOT run the website for almost 10 months now.
I DID warn Jonathan about weird IDE messages in syslog some 50-60 days
after I sold him the computer. He hasn't backed it up until or since then,
until after the crash that is.
the old site was informative but too graphical. there are tons of
information sites about linux, it's easy to fill it back up again, you can
help by donating stuff to Yaron.
What I grieve about are the hours I invested in creating my dad a very
professional web page, which also perished in that crash, and I was stupid
enough not to have a backup of THAT either.
finally, I'd like to mention that somewhere back in history, in the days
the IIX was slow and and unresponsive, a certain persona (no names
mentioned) who worked in NETVISION, had promissed to set up a mirror site
of linux.org.il on netvision's side of the IIX, especially since netvision
users were 60% of the accesses to the site at the time. Needless to say no
mirror was set up on any remote machine on any side of the IIX.

a. it categorically MUST be lynx compatable
b. with Internet speeds in Israel it MUST have minimal graphics (I think
the current headers are much too big and slow, Yaron! use width and
height tags to make the text below them load faster!)
c. yes, total white and total black are too contrasty. on my homepage I
like BG #314d62 and text #b2c2d6. it's nice and soothing, and there are no
heavy graphics to send on the line.

ofer, go burry your face in your armpit again! Yaron is not exactly the
guy with lots of time to wste like I was. he specificaly asked the people
on this list a few times, and again on the site that people DONATE
matterial. it is his site to edit because he volunteered, but it is the
linux-il site and it is the linux-il's people's job to develop it, yet
they are not so enthusiastic. don't blame him for not having enough
material!
and in case all you other readers missed the tiny insinuation in the last
paragraph: Yaron NEEDS you, he needs your pages, he needs your contents,
he needs someone to take over the crappy job of being the webmaster
because he doesn't have time for it (-: I hope I'm not going overboard).
so send send send. if you feel the site is lacking something, write and
send him! I already sent a huge page of links myself (umm, where is it
dude?)
night.
