Reading the FAQ is one thing, understanding it is another. Do you
remember the Linux Installation party tradition ? As we try to make Linux
into a more common OS, the list is bound to get some NEWBIE members.
As a student in the Technion, taking courses like MATAM, I get some silly
questions, that if sent to the list would most probably get flamed like
hell.
If our main purpose is to make linux more common among users, flaming
them in this list won't do us much good and honor. The mass of information
on this list is fairly large, a newbie might get scared from questions
like "Can linux implement RFC XXXX", when only he wants to ask "I want to
install sshd, but I can't". If we are to start a tradition of flaming
newbies, we will turn out like M$, to say "we don't support that version
anymore".
This is my humble opinion on the matter, as I asked a simple question
about a week ago, and got a "nasty" email back as an answer. Remeber this,
not all the people can be gurus, if every one would be a guru, we would
most be out of a "job" :)
