Re: computax
(Sorry for CCing so many people; the list is slow and the time is
pressing...)
OK, agreed:
1. Ira: please tell us what is the recommended number of CDs. We
prefer a case that there will not be more CDs, than a case
that we will be stacked with stocks of CDs after the exhibition.
2. Tuvik: Set an hour (this evening) and detail your address (how
to get, etc.). BTW: don't add Samba; it is already included
with RedHat. On the other side, we must remember to install
VNC for Win on both - the master CDRs and the NT (please let me
know if the NT is pre-installed with Office - we will want to
have it there - although we will demonstrate VNC only in
specific cases - becuase of its performance).
3. Everybody else: everybody who can help with burning the CDs, is
welcome to Tuvik's home (Tuvik, I hope it is OK... Anyway, you
can set a convenient hour, or refuse). If you are going to burn
them on your blank CDRs, please bring one blank (WITH ITS BOX!
we want to ensure that the paper is in appropriate size. Bring
it even if you think it is standard). We will burn it on the
loaned computer. If you have more than one type of CDRs, prefer
a type with a plastic cover (we will replace their papers/covers
with ours). If you don't have blank CDRs, please let me know
how many you can burn, and I'll buy.
4. Seems that I'll have to take also the preparation of boot
diskettes and the paper, unless anybody else volunteers. We
will make a master diskette (as well as master CDRs) in Tuvik's
home (again, if it is OK with him). Of course, all the CDRs
will be verified, and the first (together with the boot
diskette) will be tested by installing them on milton's
computer (after all, we have to install this comuter anyway...)
BTW: We will keep an image of the master CDR on Milton's
computer, and during the exhibition we will verify any CDR
before selling it (of course, only verification; test is needed
only with the master).
5. Shachar: it is OK. Print it in as many copies as you (or your
printer) can. Try to do it on a thick paper. If there is an
economical state of the printer, and it will higher the chance
to print many copies, use it, unless it looks ugly. Before
anything else, print the posters+banner (4 copies each), on the
heaviest paper your printer handles. If you need to spend
money (on heavy A4 paper, etc.), just write the costs.
BTW: If anybody else hase a colored laser printer, please let
me know; Don't worry, we are not going to empty your toners,
it is only in case that we will need some more copies DURING
the exhibition, and Shachar will not be around.
6. We still need volunteers to exhibit; We must know your plans
BEFORE the exhibition.
7. Everybody who deserves an invoice, will get it in the
exhibition (so if you will see me - please identify yourself);
Invoices will be posted by snail-mail only after the exhibition
to those who wouldn't get them during the exhibition.
> bootable CD, including gnome and VNC (for win32 and linux)
Bootable CD? I have 4 computers, some new, and none of them knows
what is a bootable CD. So although the CD is bootable, we must
prepare boot diskettes. Regarding to Gnome: I hope it is stable
enough, and I doubt - whether it is already included with RH5.1;
Maybe it will be better to have ssh? Or up to date errata of
RedHat? (instead of ADDING the errata, we have to try to replace
the bad RPMs with the newer ones; We already have dozens or
hundreds of Israeli Linuxes hacked on May, ee don't want more).
Thanks to all; Call me in any question (and Tuvik, please don't
kill me, I didn't think about another option),
