Re: sendmail question

For the first one, you can't tell sendmail to fwd VIA something. You only
have control over the 'next' host. This is set by the option 'smart email
host' (DS).

For more complex routing, you have to invent a cookie that you attach to
the domain of the mail going that way, and build a DNS route for that kind
of domain. Of course the sendmails on both ends must strip the bogus
domain cookies, the connection must be private, and you must make sure
that you do not clash with any other names on the way. This is a pro job
for gurus only. Bogus domains can be used ONLY behind a firewall/packet
filter, if you use some of the addresses reserved for local use for that,
and configure the filter not to let them in and out.
