I am saying that I have caught Netscape pinging while I was setting up
auto-dialout on several Linux boxes. I do not know what or when triggers
it. From the looks of it, it only pings IF you reach for something that
involves a 'domain change'. I strongly suspect that Netscape people are
sneaky enough to tell the difference by looking at the DNS lookup
response, and NOT ping if it was already 'known' or if the answer came
from the local DNS (i.e. already known). I'd do it that way anyway ;)

You did not say from where you tried plasma gate. If you tried it from
within its domain, then you can forget ping.

It is also possible (but I'm not sure) that trying to click a link again
(after it has failed once) will try to get the link WITHOUT a ping (just
like deleting the inserted automatic newline in pico twice turns auto
justify off temporarily).
