The Palo Alto Tea Party

to my LUG back home and to anyone who joined SVLUG's list in the last
hour, here's a short report...

http://www.svlug.org/events/tea-party-199811.shtml

The place: Palo Alto, Silicon Valley
The Venue: Microsoft celebrates the new SV Campus
The people: SVlug people of ages 20-70 handing out free Caldera and SuSE
CDs to people coming to the Microsoft party, and to any car driving down
Lytton street whose driver was willing to roll down his window (quite a
few). Familiar faces were Marc Merlin, Sam Ockman and Dave Miller, with a
surprising high female procentage (I think we had 4? :-)

One Reporter for the Nikey (spl?) and another reporter/photographer from
the NY Times magazine taking shots of us handing out the CDs. 70-80% of
the party goers accepted a CD, some knew what it's about and burst
laughing giving us a thumb up, some politly taking the CD with an
interested look, burrying it in their jacket's pocket. Two actually told
me they were disappointed we didn't have any Redhat ones/

Microsoft was aware of us being there, (30 people in the front of the
building...) but since we weren't making a mess, they didn't mind us
hanging about, and took it quite well. in fact we were served coffee
(twice!) since it was kinda cold and windy outside, and they even offered
to buy us Pizza, though at some point I just had to go home for supper
with my girlfriend...

End of MY quick summery... anyone who stayed later is welcome to add (lots
of pictures are on the way too, I'm sure :-)
