I can tell you about FreeBSD mounting ext2fs partitions.
It is easy ;{)
mount -t ext2fs blah blah.
Of cause you need to compile kernel with EXT2FS option.
Anyway, mounting rw is not recommended, because ext2fs driver 
in FreeBSD is buggie.
Anyway, ro is just fine I use it for more than half an year.

Mounting FreeBSD partitions under Linux ( with all the needed options
compiled in ) gives me kernel error "Fucking Sun is blowing me..."
so I think that ufs support in linux kernel is even worse :{)
