You may convert ttf fonts to bdf, using ttf2bdf utility. But I must warn
you - it will look good *only* for the resolution you converted for. Any
scaling (especially enlarging) will make it look very ugly. So, you have
or to make many .bdf's from one .ttf, or suffer. Or use server
described below.
TTF2BDF and other TTF utilities can be taken from FreeType project page
at:
http://www.physiol.med.tu-muenchen.de/~robert/freetype.html
Or you can use TTF-enchanced xfs, which can be taken from:
http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/jec/programs/xfsft/
There are binaries, or, if you are do-it-yourself type (like me somethimes
;), you may take patch pack and apply to xfs sources and then compile.
Requires FreeType lib. Binaries are available with static freetype
linkage, so you needn't to install freetype if you use that binary.
I've recently built it, but still diodn't test it on TTF's - have none at
hand. In other aspects, it is usual xfs - so you may test it fearlessly.
Yet another solution is to use font server from WINE (or WABI?) package,
which handles TTF. But it isn't free - you have to buy it, AFAIK.
