I haven't installed Slackerware for a long time, but I remember a VERY
loud sigh of relief escaped my throat when I dumped slackwate 2.2 and
moved to RedHat 3.03, and then an even louder one when I moved to 4.X

anyway, if you look at the latest Slackware, which is 3.4 or 3.5 by now,
the latest kernels support sound cards through PnP

last but not least: yes, it's far from being a workstation for a lot of
industries, especially if you need Hebrew, Microsoft-centric tools and
graphic design. I don't advocate anyone to switch to it as a workstation
because it's MUCH simpler for me to install an expensive fast SMP machine
in the computer room and have all my users run low-maintainance 95 or NT
machines with an Xserver, logging in to the central machine at full screen
with XDM.

Linux' job is to run stable and to run FAST. it's doing that. it's the job
definition of a server. I don't need it for the sound of graphics
capabilities, but it's nice to have those too.
