To subscribe to the Linux RAID mailing list, send the line:
subscribe linux-raid your@email.adress
to:
majordomo@vger.rutgers.edu

Most of the traffic in the mailing list is dedicated to Linux software
RAID, but there are also discussions about hardware RAID solutions.

You might also try the following pages

http://linas.org/linux/raid.html
http://www.uni-mainz.de/~neuffer/scsi/
http://www.dandelion.com/Linux/DAC960.html

The latter is of particular interest, but not relevant for immediate
purchases. It reports the current development status of the driver for
Mylex DAC960 RAID family (developed by Leonard Zubkoff). I think this is
interesting since in the 'real world' as you call it, Mylex RAID
controllers seem to be both common and reliable.
As far as I know, Mylex have bought BusLogic, and we should hope that
the level of support that BusLogic cared to give Leonard in developing
the Linux drivers for their SCSI cards will be continued here. You all
know that thanks to that support buslogic SCSI drivers are still
considered the most mature ones under Linux (though their hardware isn't
necessarily the best one).
Other than that, the natural choice will be of course DPT, with a wide
range of supported hardware. They also support the development of Linux
drivers for their RAID controllers.

Hope this helps, and please let me know about your decision when you
make it, since I'm facing similar considerations.
