Oracle and other RDBMSes for Java - the next big flop?
I know Java. It's a cute language, but it's a language for toys, and Sun
itself cannot make it a stable technology yet. Perl on the other hand has
far better AI, multi-tiering, OS design, etc. than Java and is not such a
bad OOP&D language itself.
In fact it's an OpenVMS emulation, along with its own RAD, it's own
multi-casting/broadcasting system, etc, with an excellent safety
mechanism. Some of them are a bit patchy but state. And it can look and
behave like a GNU-compliant subsystem running on (?) .
Oracle will have to implement some good algorithms for data caching, a
nice multi-level UI interface, etc. to get a fully-working revolution in
database management. Java on the other hand will definetly break sooner or
later, and this project will consume precious personnel time, to get
something that can never work properly in the near future.
I don't care if Sun is behind Java. A Java RDBMS will not work, and so no
serious DB manager will even try it. Oracle will be stuck with a lot of
angry newbies who were too naive to try it out.
Are you agreeing with me on this? Should I post it to slashdot on behalf
of Linux-IL?
