I hope everyone will need it also someday!

Most common, yes -- at the US. Europe has much SuSe also.
But recommended... you will get as many different recommendations as
there are Linuxers in the world!
I personally recommend the Debian distribution. It can be
downloaded
from http://www.debian.org./; this site also contains a list of mirrors,
including -- if I remember well -- one Israeli mirror. Also in the site
a list of Debian CD vendors.
RedHat is the most common, and easier for standard installs on
standard hardware. Debian is more flexible, and has a more robust
package manager, but hasn't such beautiful screens.
The maintainer of the Israeli Debian mirror was subscribed to the
list... I forget his name now. Hello, are you there? Anyone else
knows where to find Debian CDs?
Anyway, from today to Thursday I will have access to a CD writer,
so I could copy you my Debian GNU/Linux 2.0 Official CD for the i386
(binaries only).
