No, but I read the pppd manual carefully, especially the section about
CHAP and storing encoded passwords in /etc/*-secrets.

BTW it is easier to sniff an existing PPP connection than to break into
the system that uses it (either side) so think. Why do you think that
people are recommended not to run telnet into anywhere ? 

Also, you can put the relevant parts of /etc/??? as soft links into an
encrypted fs mounted with the loop device (this is for really paranoid
people). There remains the master password that can and will be cracked
eventually...
