I'm sure there are other such utilities, however.. (story time)
I used to write on the UltiNet a long while back and I had one of those
OS arguments in I_OS. One issue that was brought up was the availability
of software on Windows platforms. I said that I could write mostly
everything I needed, and it would take me way less time and money than to
search for it and buy it (although the people involved were obviously
software pirates). The key software that the Win95 advocates were claiming
to be missing from the Unix world was GetRight. I claimed it could be
written in a matter of minutes, and was called to stand up for my word..
('Oh yeah? If it can be done, so do it!'). And so I did.
The version I'm using now isn't too far off from the original getwrong.pl
I wrote in 15 minutes or so in perl. (including reading the RFCs ;))
Send me private email if you want it. It supports direct and proxy HTTP
resumes/downloads. I've been using it for proxied-FTP downloads (using
ftp:// URLs and Netvision's proxy), as well. It does NOT plug-in into
Netscape (as I don't use graphical browsers) but rather is command-line
oriented (in fact, it outputs to stdout.)
