Re: Dinner - suggestion

Well, since my name was mentioned, I'll say this:
There is a technical problem in attaching installation party and
a restaurant meeting. But there is still a similar idea: Some of
the cheaper places for conferences (I think Kfar-HaMaccabia), are
willing to host conferences for free, and to charge you per meal,
when it is not a "must" to have a meal. One of the conferences we
set at AMIX (Igud Mishtamshei UNIX BeIsrael Za"l), was in this
format. This format has the following benefits:
1. It combines the technical issues with the gastronomical issues,
as Hetz suggested/wants.
2. It steps us a big step forward (finally, having a real
conference, like a real Igud Mishtamshim!).
3. It fits the free vision of Linux (i.e. In contrast to normal
conferences, which cost hundreds of dollars (500-600 NIS), you
may come and don't pay anything, as long as you are not too
hungry and/or don't have your sadwiches from home :-)
4. Since we have a problem to charge money (we are not an Amuta),
this idea solves us this problem too.
It will be easy to prepare the technical program of the day, and
many of us will volunteer to give lectures. It will be harder
(but still possible) to bring a keynote speaker. It will be
impossible to bring a foreign VIP keynote speaker (as in real
conferences), but who cares.
And as Jojo used to say: "And think about it, Mo-o-o-o-o-o" :-)
