Hi:
I don't think this is a good idea, for several reasons:
1. We're too few for a newsgroup - even an Israeli newsgroup. We're
hovering around 250-260 subscribers, with much less active ones (5-10%).
2. Newsgroups tend to be very spam-ridden; the mailing list has (thus
far) been relatively spam-free. I like it that way. Let's keep the
signal/noise ratio high.
3. Being on this mailing list, with several mails a day, presents some
threshhold to the participation. A subscriber must tolerate that amount of
mail to be on this list. With a newsgroup, there is no such threshhold,
so the signal/noise ratio goes down again.
I fear for our ability to maintain good quality discussion and for our
sense of community.
As for splitting the list to two bodies (guru/newbie, for example), this
was discussed several times in the past and the decision was, time and
time again, against such a move.
Regards,
Ariel
