And unfortunately I couldn't recognize any such size in the code, 
possibley due to a lack of knowledge of C.

Instead, I tried using the window parameter in the route command, as 
suggested in the Ethernet-HOWTO.  using 'window 2500' raised my speeds to 
350kb/s (a 3500% speedup!), but now ftp transfers die and give me a 
'illegal seek' or something every time the file (any file) reaches about 
4MB downloaded.  So, what am I doing wrong this time?
