Linux with more than 1024 fd's (take two)

   Hi,

Last week I've asked a question regarding using Linux with more than
1024 fd's open. There was no reply. Could it be that no one has the
slightest clue about it ??

This was the original mail:

   Hi,

I wanted to know if anyone has experience with Linux working under load
with more than 1024 fd's open. (something like a squid proxy server for
example, using the NOVM version of squid). I know Solaris x86 works
seemlessly with 4096 fd's, but I don't know about Linux. There were mails
on the kernel development list a few months ago about problems with Linux
and > 1024 fd's, were they fixed ?
