As usual - strange things happening to my Linux box
Yesterday was some strange day... Everything just failed...(at work)
Today's morning proved that it was everywhere...
I didn't touched my box yesterday, it was locked with xlock...
I tried to unlock it in the morning, but I couldn't (I thought that
somehow I have screwed my passwd... So I tried to connect from my second
linux box, any services were refused...
When I switched to console I tried to login from console I have received:
dl_boot: mmap of /dev/zero failed
init: Id "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
the same for all the other consoles
luckily I have found an open console 1 from where I started x..., but I
could execute no program... the response was:
kernel: Unable to load interpreter
then somehow when I switched back to x A-C-F7 I heard my disk working and
then xlock has been released...
I have had a second to see that I was out of Memory. Then in a few seconds
all the memory has been released without me doing anything...
Just to make you know, I have 64M SDRAM and 100M swap partition.
I'm not running any special things... As usual
How it happened that soddenly I went out of 160M? (My box is not connected
to the Internet ) I suppose it was some memory leak from some daemon...
But again I have used a box 2 days ago with no problem (just afew
connections to the Internet...) and was idle for the whole day...
I watched the logs and couldn't see a thing...
Feb 4 01:08:41 localhost pppd[28875]: Terminating on signal 2.
Feb 4 01:08:42 localhost pppd[28875]: Connection terminated.
Feb 4 01:08:42 localhost pppd[28875]: Exit.
Feb 4 01:10:25 localhost kernel: PPP: ppp line discipline successfully
unregistered
Feb 4 03:54:01 localhost kernel: Unable to load interpreter
Feb 4 03:55:00 localhost kernel: Unable to load interpreter
and about 2000 lines of the same error
see after 3 hours I have received the error...
Any ideas?
Now everything is OK, I even didn't reboot the machine...
Thanks
