well, to save it now, you can boot from a floppy, copy your image to drive
C: and start using loadlin (makes more sense with your setup than lilo)

for your next setup, if you are going to use such a large disk and a large
/ partition that will exceed the allowed supported number of cylinders in
the BIOS, create a small partition first for /boot, and kernel images that
you save there will always be in the right region of the disk.
