Re: Computax '98

Last public relations we need for Computax :-(
I know the guy, he heard some things not for quoting (after all,
his site is hosted in a hacked computer), and told me on Tuesday
(proudly) that his name will be mentioned in Maariv, regarding
to the hacker's story. I shouted at him, and called immediately
the reporter, but it was too late. The only thing the reporter
agreed to change, was to say that the attack "aimed" in Linux,
rather than "used a hole" of Linux. I explained that the buffer
overflow exists in any UNIX, but since achieving root access
using a buffer overflow is platform dependent, you cannot hack
Sun, SGI, and Linux with the same program. Linux was choosed,
probably because there are many of them. I didn't see Maariv,
and I hope the damage is not too big.
(latest update: Kol-Israel is reporting this subject right now.
They interview Eddie Harari, one of our subscribers).
Now to our urgent issues:
========================
1. We need the biggest Penguin for the walls of the booth (2
copies), and a huge "Linux Inside" (2 copies). If it can be
printed on a heavy paper (120 gr., 140 gr., or even 180) it
will be better. Take into account, that most of the penguins
(and even some of the "Linux Inside"), are bitmapped, so
cannot be printed in these sizes.
2. Thanks to all of you volunteering to man the booth. I'll
start a scheduling table (is there a better English word?)
after Shavuot.
3. We really don't have time for religious wars. RedHat used to
be the default Linux for over a year (be it good or bad), and
5.1 is the hottest Linux now. BTW: Unfortunately, Cheapbytes
will ship RedHat 5.1 ($1.99 !!!) only beginning June 15 :-(
Does anybody have connections or protections at RedHat or
CheapBytes?
4. One more religious war: I don't have any opinion regarding to
KDE-Qt/Gnome-GTK-Gimp, except for the fact that we must have
one of them (and maybe Gimp in any case). We don't have
anything to do with Samba or IPX, since we will not have any
Windows (though we will mention it in the feature's list of
Linux). I'll put a Hebrew Netscape for Linux, although I am
still dis-allowed to distribute a version for Linux (becuase
of the terms of Motif license, and please, don't try to help
me or to discuss it here, we really don't have time for it
now).
5. All the information and papers will be Hebrew. I volunteer to
write advocacy, and to post it to the list before printing.
