if you do not have a boot disk, then download
and create a slackware boot-disk (no rootdisk
needed) and at the boot parameters type:
mount root=/dev/<dev> ro
if you do not know the <dev> you may try
hda1 hda2 hda3 and so on, or use the root disk to
start linux and type fdisk to see your linux partision
