Hebrew language guides for the perplexed Linux sysadmin
Few weeks ago I installed a Linux-based file+FAX+printers server
in a non-profit organization which has a Windows for Workgroup 3.11
based LAN in its offices.
The organization has no funds for hiring a sysadmin, so the routine
systems administration chores are handled by one of the
organization's officers and when there is a more difficult problem,
it is referred to a volunteer sysadmin (me).
Mastering the network was not too difficult, thanks to availability
of Hebrew-language literature and help information provided in Hebrew
by Microsoft.
Now that there is also a Linux based server, we are faced with the
problem of mastering routine administrative tasks (such as cancelling
stray print jobs, cleaning up spool areas, modifying crontab settings).
Does anyone know about an Hebrew-language guide for the perplexed
assistant sysadmin? Preferably one which covers:
- Shutting down the system in orderly way.
- What to do if the system doesn't reboot properly.
- Managing printers and printer queues.
- Managing the FAX spooler built into mgetty+sendfax and Responder
packages.
- Monitoring the /var/log/messages file and other /var/log log files and
figuring out what happened if there is anything abnormal.
- Basic Unix commands.
- perl for beginners.
Without such a guide, the Linux-based server is faced with the danger
of being shut down and replaced with a Windows 95 (or even Windows
NT) based server.
