Re: M@ilpush are off MY server.
Welcome to the club. As I have notified reln already we have to stand up
and SAY that we're fed up with this EVERY time it happens until it STOPS
happening. I have also set up a procmail bounce system on my
email-receiving machine.
I also would like to announce that I have re-written the monthly posting
guidelines and sent a draft to reln a few days ago (he's probably busy or
what). The draft specifies a hail and brimstone treatment for anyone
joining the list while being subscribed to mailpush services and having
the 'confirm' option turned on.
According to what the mailpush people said, while they were still
talking to people (I guess that by now most phones are disconnected ;),
the CLIENT who USES mailpush has to turn the confirmation option OFF
himself. They <grinningly> said that they have no control over this
matter. And Bill Gates is a philanthropic good samaritan, who wants us all
good, and helps poor students and businesses that make or sell software
and computers out of his good heart. (Have you been at http://www.news.com
lately ? Take a look at the subjects there).
People on the list: This is a MUTEX, with 2 conditions:
Option 1: Have mailpush with confirm on && NOT ON THE LIST
Option 2: Have mailpush without confirm off && HAPPILY ON THE LIST
There are no exceptions to this, and reln has promised to remove anyone
from the list on the spot, at the first confirmation. Incidentally,
confirmations from certain corporate gateways are ALSO not welcome and
will be treated in the same way (but with more consideration).
BTW I believe that mailpush should invest 10-20 man-hours and add a
database to the next version their mailpush software (at the client side)
to remove ppl who have already been 'confirmed' once if they want to stay
in this business without someone suing them for spamming in the end. Even
THIS solution is on the edge of the law, but hey, they have to make a
living.
regards,
Peter
