Re: pppd AARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!
Well DAH!!!! I've used the scripts I wrote before, but I wanted to check
the syslog on every step on the way to see what's happening...
Anyway, I've found the missing link, it seems that under Debian2.0
install, it configures pppd (in /etc/ppp/options) for peer authentication,
which my peer (as well as any other ISP I know...) doesn't do ofcourse, so
the pppd hung up the connection every time it didn't get authentication
from my ISP...I wonder why they configured it this way, they also bothered
to put a warning-comment NOT to reomve it (which ofcourse I did...)
Check this out:
# Require the peer to authenticate itself before allowing network
# packets to be sent or received.
# Please do not disable this setting. It is expected to be standard in
# future releases of pppd. Use the call option (see manpage) to disable
# authentication for specific peers.
#auth
