PHP + ODBC

It may be a little off topic, I am not sure. In case it is, I
apologize in advance.

I try to assimilate PHP3 in a very big corporation. It looks cool,
but we didn't begin to access databases with it (it has zillion non
DB features).

Although Oracle is used for most of needs, Access is used for some
too, and we want to use also PostgreSQL or MySQL in the future. PHP
has a specific interface for each of them, but it requires to learn
all 4 APIs, and to code different scripts for each of them.

I decided to use ODBC instead. I know that the performance will be
worse, but the unification is the major criteria. Is it possible?
How to do it? Should I configure the server to support ODBC? Is
is possible with all of these DB (Oracle/PostgreSQL/MySQL)? Should
I install anything (in addition to PHP) on the client side? Should
I configure PHP to support ODBC? PHP asks for "DSN" of the ODBC
data

Is there any alternative (i.e. so the same PHP API can be used to
access all the mentioned databases)?

I leave to army reserve (miluim) Sunday-Thursday, and I don't know
when I'll read my e-mail, so if you will not get thanks from me for
your answers immediately, I already thank in advance.
