Qmail Vs. Sendmail
Hi,
I have installed about 10 Qmail servers at the last year (on
Linux/AIX/Solaris), all works fine, _but_ after 6 months we choose to
replace the old sendmail's servers with new (8.9.1) servers and not qmail.
The mail reason was that my co-workers got use to sendmail and don't like
new things. The only really problem we had was after installing APAR (AIX
patches) that tend to install unwanted patches ,like sendmail patch to our
qmail server! (the patches are "group" patches)
At those 10 qmail machines we used the MBOX format because of two reasons:
1) We wanted to have a chance to downgrade it back to sendmail without
any problems.
2) The MUA problem , most of the MUA doesn't support maildir format, and
I didn't like the pinq,elq idea.
Because we used MBOX format I had "hack" the sources of qpopper to support
~/Mailbox , I did it once for qpopper 2.4, and it was very annoying to do
it again for qpopper 2.52
security: Qmail is secure, sendmail is not secure.
In short, if you like new cool things and like to play with them use
qmail. If you like heavy programs use sendmail.
Yours,
Yaron.
