Good tape backup software for Linux?
I found that the BRU2000 program from the RedHat 5.1 official CD-ROMs reports "[E134] internal error 100 - failed self consistency and portability checks" when trying to run it on a PC with RedHat 5.1 Linux installed on it, and with a SCSI tape backup drive (the mt command works correctly in that system, however).
So I have the following questions (before bothering RedHat technical support):
1. Does anyone know anything about this problem? (Marc-Flames-Asbestos-Type disclaimer: thus far
I didn't ask RedHat about this - so you have my permission to ignore this question.)
2. What other tape backup programs are successfully used by other people who run Linux on LAN
servers?
My needs are simple:
1. Daily incremental backup (can be scheduled using cron).
2. Weekly full backup
3. Ability to find the contents of the tape cartridge being used for the backups.
4. Ability to selectively restore files from a selected backup.
5. Fancy user interface is not needed.
6. Some indication how much free space is left in the cartridge.
