I disagree.  I think one good measure of a distro is how up-to-date it's
packages are.  This isn't a flamewar - it's info for me when I next upgrade my
Linux system.

ANother example of RedHat packages being out of date is Ghostscript.  I
discovered that Gimp had problems anti-aliasing Postscript files cause RedHat
(5.0 and 5.1, IIRC) includes a very old version of GS.  Very old.

I'm installing Stampede next week, and I'll see how up-to-date their packages
are, since that is one of their claims.  Can anyone suggest a way to check if
their claims of 10-30% speedups are true?  I don't really want to install X, so
something else (benchmark program?).
