The differences are:  
- Which devices they support: choose 1 that best covers yours 
- Which version they are: choose 2.0.34 for stable (flames on
demand, list)  
- For which architecture they are compiled (x86, Alpha, Sparc...): you
want x86 unless you have smth. else

For a running kernel, use dmesg / uname (RTFM), for a non-running kernel,
you can use rdev or such (I don't remember - please read the
kernel-HOWTO).
