It depends on what do you call good:
	There is WordPerfect port for linux, together with Corel suite
	There also are some "Office Productivity Packs" like
	 StarOffice or Applix
	And there is LyX, WISIalmostWYG front-end to LaTeX

	Quick Viewer:  xv, very efficient, although somewhat 
	outdated, e.g. some new JPEG formats specs are not 
	supported. But sometimes, there is no alternative to good old
	xv
	PaintShop: GIMP and ImageMagick prove themself

	That depends. One of the things that really helps is shell 
	(one of them, but I preffer tcsh) with all the 
	bells-and-whistles but it takes time to learn. For the 
	beginner i sujjest KDE as enviroment.
