The GNU-Win32 Project
Since I wasn't aware of this, maybe some of you aren't as well.
and I quote:
***
The GNU-Win32 tools are Win32 ports of the
popular GNU development tools for Windows
NT and 95. They function through the use of
the Cygwin32 library which provides a
UNIX-like API that operates on top of the
Win32 API. Once the tools are installed, it is
possible to:
Write Win32 console or GUI applications
that make use of the standard Microsoft
Win32 API and/or the Cygwin32 API.
Easily configure and build many GNU
tools from source (including rebuilding
the GNU-Win32 development tools
themselves).
Port many other significant UNIX
programs to Windows NT/95 without
making significant changes to the source
code.
Have a fairly full UNIX-like work
environment, with access to many of
the common UNIX utilities (from both
the bash shell and the standard Win32
shell).
