Loaded by LILO - I've booted off SCSI harddisks where the BIOS didn't support
SCSI booting, by using the ramdisk, created using mkinitrd.
On a related note, make sure you're using the latest aic7xxx driver (5.1.4 last
I heard) since only versions after 5.1.0 support ultra-wide scsi. 2.0.35 does
NOT include UW support in the included aic7xxx driver, 2.0.36 does.
