Heh, on that I have more than plenty of experience. What kind of network
critical application are you running by the way ?
In any case, forget 3com. The driver (even 0.49) is far from being stable.
You can use these cards, I at least think that they are stable, and they
have been tested under very very high and sustained load for weeks in a
row, (I can be more specific in private mail).
About 100Mbit cards, this is off a machine that uses two cards, and is up
24/7 , handling quite a load (network wise) on it:

I am also using a DEC tulip based card (10/100) from Kingston. It is
stable, but lacks on performance.
There are always the good old 16bit Ne2000 cards, they work.
