I think Debian has the most unfriendly package management system I've ever
seen in my life. It takes alot of time to get the hang of it. I wouldn't
recommend Debian for the user community, but it would make a good
production server, if the only one taking care of it is an experienced
sysadmin. ( a user will get frustrated too soon). The abundance of
packages for Debian is one of its only advantages over RedHat IMHO.
