Please note that NAT is only used at NetVision
(Actvnet connect you either to Shani or to Netvision).
At Shani, you get a normal fixed IP, not NAT, no firewalls, no blocked ports,
no bull. I don't know whether that's going to be changed.
(Shani has other problems, such as a 64Kb/s link to IIX -- yes, that's half
the bandwidth of your frame relay! -- for, I think, like 350 customers at the
moment,
and for people on this list, it may also be important that there's a redhat
mirror
in Netvision's domain. :) Their link abroad isn't that great either (0.5Mb/s,
I think).)
Their tech support representative told me that a request can be filed for
Netvision
to allocate a static IP, after I convinced him that it may be needed for
things other
than "giving services", such as for example, receiving talk/ntalk requests
from
a friend, or running X applications on a remote computer. I have yet to see
how
long it takes to get that static IP. Hopefully less than other things they did
for me.
My overall impression is that Actvnet are a bunch of jerks who treat their
customers
worse than I'd treat my dog. As you could expect from a mini-monopoly.
I really wish there was at least one (preferably all!) other ISP in Israel
that offered
unlimited (truly unlimited, not "unlimited + phone rates") access for an
affordable price,
be it over frame relay, over phone, or over thin air.
