cute picture of Linus
this is back from March, I'm sorry I forgot to post this earlyer :-)
http://www.scso.com/images/linus-httpd.jpg
this is from Linus' lecture about SMP to the SVLUG. Linus explained how
SMP for user-space is a no brainer, it's just that certain kernel space
system calls must not run on two different CPUs at the same time, and
therefore speedup is not equal to all aplications. to demonstrate a
kernel-mode intensive app, he drew this diagram to explain an HTTP server
(sorry for the low grade of the lighting in the picture, obviously the
room was dark).
the diagram shows the HTTP request coming in through TCP, the HTTP server
reading the superblock, finding the file in the file system, reads that
and sends it back, to simbolize the file, Linus drew a stick figure saying
it was the naked lady GIF that the user had requested. at that point I
took the shot, and Linus automatically raised the red in his cheeks by
0x0A and said "oops, I should have drawn something else :-)"
if you want another scan (higher res, different format, change of Gama
correction), drop me a line.
