Please print this letter encouraging the linux community to bombard the
order lines of companies that have popular windows software and request
linux versions.

Since I want Quicken for Linux, I went to www.quicken.com, and in a
couple of minutes, I found that the order number corresponding to their
on-line store is 1-800-224-0991. Pressing 4 and then 1, connected me to
the operators for those "ready to order". After responding to their
question for my name, I said I'd like to buy "Quicken Delux '98", the
Linux version. The operator didn't quite understand me, saying that she
knows that it runs quite well on Windows 3.1 and 95. I told her that I
only run Linux, but would like to buy their software. Would she have
someone call me back telling me when a Linux version will be available,
I asked. She said she'd pass the request on, but didn't know when
someone would call me.

We don't have to sit back and sigh about the lack of commercial
applications, let's all get on the phones and push the market to support
our favorite OS.

Next I plan to call Toshiba for my laptop's "custom convenience
applications" and Oracle for the OracleLite database. Of course, I
cheer open-source application software to prevail, but I'd love to
squeeze Microsoft's pocketbook in the meantime.
