Re: TechWeb Uncovers MS-Linux Logo
I read the article, and emailed the authors (there are 4).
I think that NO ONE of the authors understand the Linux issue in general,
and GPL in detail - at all.
If (for example) I would like to create a new Linux flavour tommorow, I'll
HAVE to release the source code. I can't image Microsoft releases source
code, and even when they release - look at their draconic terms (example:
take a look at Microsoft's IPV6 source code which they released back few
months ago).
Besides that, Microsoft has stated over and over again that they DO NOT
want any connection with Unix at all. Don't belive me? ask Bristol
software, who Microsoft canceled they're relationship few months ago
(Bristol sofware is the company who writes Unix to Windows porting tools -
eg: WinU).
So basicly, I think it's just another unbased rumor or speculation. Sure,
Microsoft so far in history has created clones for anything (Word<Word
perfect, Explorer<Netscape, DOS<CP/M) with a bit "improvment", but I
hardly see this with Linux..
If someone REALLY wants to run some Linux binaries on win32, then he
should either check now Interix 2.2 or wait for full Linux binary support
in Interix 3.0 (and with this news from CMP - I feel sorry about this
company which will loose lots of money)
