RE > ISDN.Net connection - some answers

Hi all,

Well, I got lots of emails from many people, and I would like to answer
them here (if u don't mind) instead of getting the same questions over
and over again:

Q: I Called ISDN.Net and they were telling me that if I decided to
disconnect before I finish my 2 years with them, they'll charge me for
250$. Is it true? and if so, why?

A: Short answer - yes and no
Long answer: When you connect to ISDN.Net and you don't have ISDN
line, and no ISDN modem, the company will transform 1 of your lines to
ISDN and add another line. This transformation costs if you do it
through Bezeq - 600 or so NIS. Add it it an ISDN modem card, and they're
you got 250$. You don't pay for this when you're connecting to us, so
you won't pay for this if you're staying with this connection within 2
years.
If, on the other side, you have an ISDN modem and ISDN line and you want
to disconnect from us after a time (and it doesn't matter if it's 2 days
or 1 year), you don't pay a single shekel. I just asked the marketing
department and that's official now.

Q: I heard you got only 1 connecting area (Petah Tikva). Is it true?
what will be with other areas?
A: In the next following days, all ISDN subscribers will get a
mail/Email asking all to switch to another 5 digits number, where you'll
pay for a LOCAL call, no matter where you're calling from (and unlike
133 if someone remembers this dialing method with TVTEL, it won't be 5
minutes "PEIMAT MON-E", it will be as same as paying for calling your
next building). This dialing mothed should be working soon. We're still
waiting for Bezek to finish writing their program.
Who will pay for the charges (local > area) calls? we will. We'll have
an arrangement with Bezeq.

Q: Which modem do I get?
A: We have few modems. Not all of them are supported by Linux
there is an ISA modem from ASUSCom and soon Fritz! (unfortunetly
Fritz stopped creating they're jumper based card, so now they're selling
a PnP based ISA card - but last time I tested it on Linux with
isdn4linux installed - it worked).
There is another PCI ISDN modem using the TigerJet chipset, which is
unfortunetly not supported by Linux, nor by isdn4linux. If I'm wrong
about it - please email me.

Q: Does your ISDN modem supported by 2.0.x / 2.1.x kernels?
A: All ISA cards are supported on 2.0.33+isdn4linux drivers. I haven't
testing the 2.1.x kernels yet, but I think it should.

Q: Is it true that to read my Email I'll need a microsoft mail reader?
A: DEFINETLY WRONG!. I use KDE mail reader with a POP 3 support and it
works flawlessly.

Q: What are the costs for 64k and 128k connection?
A: 64k - 35$, 128K - 60$. All flat rates.

Q: How do I connect?
A: You'll need a PAP/CHAP based PPP dial-up program. You can use QT
based program like KPPP (it's now built into KDE), or you can use EZppp
which is now built in Gnmoe (GTK based now).
If anyone knows how to connect with other method - please tell me.

Again, this is not some sort of "come to connect to us", so I'm not
going to give URL or phone numbers.

Oh, one more thing - I hope to sit in the next few days (after Internet
World 98) with the marketing department to make a special prize for 128k
only for Linux IL users group. Wish me luck (I'll need that :) ).

Thanks
Hetz Ben Hamo

PS: Does anybody goto Internet world 98? I will be at our booth at
tuesday and thursday, and I'll be glad to meet some of you there to talk
about Linux. We'll also have some nice models there. Yihyou Ktaim :)
