Re: Computax

Hi,

I talked to Milton Electronics today, and they are willing to support us
in computax. They will give us two desktops (P-233 or better) and
possibly also a nice laptop.
In exchange we'll put some sign that we got support from Milton / The
machines come from Milton or something similar.
By the way, they have their own booth in the show, so that we'll have
local technical support if needed.
One of the machines will come preinstalled with Windows NT, so that we
may demonstrate connectivity to alien systems and particularly VNC. VNC
will be useful in this respect, since we can run clients and servers on
both the Linux and the NT ends simultaneously, thus gaining something
like another X terminal on the NT machine, in addition to the main goal
of demonstrating the ability to operate Office applications etc. under
Linux.
We should start thinking about what should be installed on each machine,
and whether we want the laptop (*supposing* we get one) to run Linux or
be the NT station (this is simpler for us, since they'll do the
installation of NT - installing UNIX on a laptop is always a bit
problematic as Eli can assure you, and I can back his word. However we
might WANT to show Linux on a portable if we have one).
I'll probably be personally signed on the equipment, but I'm terribly
busy this week, and won't be able to do the installations. My suggestion
is that I take everything to my home in advance, say on thursday
morning. It's advisable to have the installations done before sunday,
and only bring the system on sunday for final adjustments and checks.
We will need two experienced people to take care of the installations.
I'll try to help as much as I can, but this won't be much, so I suggest
you take the equipment from me on thursday and do the installations
somewhere else.

So, what's needed now is:
1. A clear list of what's to be installed on each system.
2. CDs with all that stuff, to ease the installation (and so that we may
sell everything that we demonstrate). In particular I think we should
burn VNC on the CDs we produce.
3. Two volunteers to do the installations. This is really the most fun
part in every show, and I'd love to take part in it myself...
People - please volunteer.
