Forum, Installation Parties
Hello all,
Since the publishing of my story about Hans and Alex "the Lebanonise
Hackers", I faced contacts from many people who are interested in
installing Linux. I cannot help them, and I am not sure that this
list is the best place to help them. The "RTFM"s will embarrass them,
and the existing subscribers will suffer from too many newbies with
dumb questions. As I already noticed, the English of some of them is
worse even than mine.
So I think we should do two things:
1. Re-new the tradition of installation parties: We cannot explain
all the nuances and instructions of installations to newbies,
especially when a special driver is needed, etc. The only way to
avoid these hard descriptions is by INSTALLING the system for
them.
2. To have a web forum, with Hebrew support (IN ADDITION to English):
I already began to open such a forum, and when it will be ready
(hopefully tomorrow), I'll update you with the URL. The forum will
have a link to http://www.linux.org.il , and a note that after
overcoming the phase of "newbies", the people are welcome to join
the mailing list of Linux-IL.
This forum IS NOT GOING TO COMPETE AGAINST LINUX-IL, but to be its
web enabled forum, including the ability to ask questions in Hebrew
(being aware that the answers may be given in English).
