I do not expect the riot squad to drive out now, but on the other hand
this kind of info should not be neglected and should get there. Maybe it
makes a person's 'tik' a little bit heavier in front of a judge so he can
put him off the street (read: net) a little bit longer.
I am absolutely certain that the Florida police will be interested in the
info, if for nothing else, then just to do a small checkup on their
computers.
Those bomb recipes are not coming into your mailbox. It is ok to post
schematic diagrams for building nukes out of putrid oranges, it is not ok
to mail them to everyone all over the planet.
There is an interesting precedent to this in a computer law related crime.
Oddly, it relates to Playboy (the mag) and an Italian firm called Playmen
or so, operating out of Italy. Playboy sued them out of America, and they
won. The resoning was complex, but it boiled down to the fact that the
company was *actively* contacting prospective customers in the US, using
email and online ordering services, besides their website, which was in
English, although in Italy. It is a very interesting precedent, although
it has to do with a brand name misuse, and misrepresentation. Spammers
everywhere, beware.
Also, I have seen a lot of people putting a specific warning against suing
any spammer in their .sig, especially in newsgroups. I don't know if it
works, and if it works everywhere, but it seems to be based on real legal
stuff. I'll find one and post it as an example.
