Unicode/Bidirectional support for GNOME/GTK ?!?
Hi!
Is there anyone on this list that is actively participating in a project,
or has deep knowledge of an open-source project, to create unicode and
bidirectional support for the GNOME desktop environment (or any other
environment for linux?). All that I have found so far from the israeli
linux webpages is basic info on making netscape / vi work with hebrew
(i.e. the hebrew HOW-TO).
Needless to say, much more should be done, especially if we want linux
to become a serious replacement option to windows95/NT for israeli
desktops...
I have just asked questions on such a project in the gnome and gtk
mailing lists, and have yet to recieve a knowledgable answer. It seems
very reasonable that some information will
be found on this mailing list (after all, we should take care of
our-selves...), so I will be REALLY happy to hear anything.
If anyone has a deep knowledge of GTK/GNOME, regardless of knowing of such
a project, I would highly appreciate it if he/she is willing to ease my
way into this framework, As I am very interested in tackling/helping
tackle the problem of future support for Unicode/bidirectional writing in
GNOME.

P.S. A while ago I posted a letter in this list about a fast, small and
free java source code reindentator, named Beautifier, that can be found
at http://www.bigfoot.com/~davidsont/beautifier. Due to interest on the
part of a few of the users of Beautifier, I am currently creating a filter
for FULL REFORMATION of java source files to the java code convention.
This small project is currently in beta-testing, with a
growing number of testers from around the world. If anyone in this list
is willing to become a beta tester, I would really appreciate it.
