Ummmm... it doesn't compare with KDE. KDE is a desktop environment, GIMP
is an image manipulation program. 

I assume you meant GNOME rather than GIMP (GNOME = Gnu Network Object
Module Environment, I thing, if it's not it should be!). 

I haven't been able to compile GNOME yet, it seems to not like the
(latest) version of Guile I have. But the main differences between GNOME
and KDE are apparently:

(A) KDE is a whole lot more complete than GNOME.
(B) KDA includes a window manager (kwm), GNOME does not, although I
    suspect it'll work best with scwm...
(C) KDE can currently not be distributed on CDROMs. GNOME will not have
    that problem.
