I'd advise against it. UMSDOS is quite slow (and rumors say unstable
enough) for Linux' needs. Redhat, which is by far the majority of Linux
installations in the world today, does not support it, and I guess for
good reasons.
I therefore sugest you check about reformating the partition for Linux and
install the latter on a native filesystem (i.e. ext2)
