Re: Need help: faulty H.W. or Linux system problem

Thanks all,

It sums up to this: Probably, one of the two 32MB modules was faulty. I
found it easier to test it under Linux than under Win98.
How do I know? First, I'm not 100% sure. Second, the one diagnostics,
which I hope is o.k. to do, based on your recommendations, was to try
set the machine which 32MB alone, each module at a time, and try to
compile big compilations (kernel or other big app) while opening a few
"memory hungry app" such as Netscape, Kfm, etc' in the background.
The results were conclusive: I simply couldn't compile a kernel, getting
gcc to crash each time while reporting to syslog (xconsole under my
configuration) error "paging a virtual memory location", and dumping all
register state.

So, I hope my tests and conclusions were right. Assuming so, I wanted to
share this info with you.

Thanks,
Boaz.

BTW,
Seems like the system who establishes memory prices went koo-koo too,
isn't it ? ;-)
