I've been running Solaris 7 on my AMD K6 for some time now, and it
exhibits no problems. I don't think K6-2 will be different.

Apart from the drilling & soldering that was already mentioned, keep
in mind that most Celerons that you buy now are not overclockable
anymore. The Celerons that are released now do not run stably at 100
MHz bus speed, and their multiplier is locked. Maybe you can run them
at 83 MHz or somethig, though. I don't have experience with that.

All in all, I'd suggest AMD. You get the most cycles for your buck, so
to speak, and I haven't experienced any problems with it under both
Linux and Solaris.
