The explanation is simple:
Nobody (maybe except for subscribers of this list...) could miss the
headlines, 2 months ago, about Maariv to go on-line using Linux. All
the newspapers wrote about it, and discussed the "gambling" of Maariv
(in THEIR opinion), especially People&Computers (InformationWeek) and
Reshet. In addition, the project was based on Oracle technologies.
But a key component (from Oracle) in this project, was not available
in time for Linux, so they decided to start (TEMPORARILY) with NT,
and move later (I believe that soon) to Linux. The whole format is
not final, so everything is very temporary now. This is why there is
no advertizing for this site.
When the format will be final and the technology will move to Linux
completely, expect a big campaign (I would guess that the campaign
will not omit the involvement of Linux).
A thing that is not going to change, even after moving to Linux, is
the load balancing, or more exactly - the lack of it. They seem to be
too naive to believe that one PC can hold dozens of thousands of
readers daily. But I guess that the "Britannica Effect" will return
in this case, and after being surprised of the demand, a pharm of
computers will replace the poor PC.
Disclaimer: I don't have ANY kind of involvement in this project.
BTW: I know many installations of Apache on NT. Moreover, although my
personal recommendation is to use Apache on Linux or Solaris, many of
the installations I'm involved with, are Apache on NT.
