you can tar up directories, copy the tarballs, and untar them.

Although I haven't tried that YET, there is plip - Parallel Line IP
standard in the kernel. Look at NET-3-HOWTO in you /usr/doc/HOWTO or
you favourite LDP mirror. However, the docs say it gives around
20KB/s - very slow compared to new programs that use 2 ECP or EPP
ports.
