Re: can't get X started

After using xf86config program you have to change the "ChipId"
and "ChipRev" entries in the "Device" section of the /etc/XF86Config file

Example for my xf86config file:

Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Mach64 3D RAGE II+, Internal RAMDAC"
   VendorName "ATI"
   BoardName "3D RAGE II+"
   VideoRam 4096
   ChipID 0x4754
   ChipRev 0x01 #Ramdac "normal"
    #Clockchip "ibm_rgb525"
EndSection

Good Luck
Jack

    Subject: can't get X started

    Hello

I have installed RH5.0 and configured The Xserver many times but for
some reason i can't get X started. I use AMD-K6 233Mhz, 64MB, Logitech
Serial mouse, ATI 3D Expression card with 2MB ram and an old VGA "Tatung"
monitor. every time I run startx i get blank screen and the computer become
tottaly stuck (can't use alt ctrl backspace / + / del) and i have to reboot.
I tried to configure the XF86config file many times but with no help.
Please help me to use the X server without buying a new monitor.
buy the way i'm a newbie with linux so please consider it when you
answer.

    Thanks in advanced
