Develop code, not stickers (was: Re: Linux/Anti-Microsoft stickers)
I agree and disagree with Guy Cohen.
I agree with Guy that Yoni's approach is not productive.
I disagree with Guy in that I believe that Linux is meant also for
workstation work.
But it is too early RIGHT NOW to use Linux in workstations in Israel.
What Yoni, Guy, me and other big mouthed itiots should be doing is:
1. Develop scripts, GUIs, configuration tools, system management tools,
which will hide reasonably large parts of the underlying system's
complexity and make it easy to manage by ordinary users.
2. Develop high-quality Hebrew support for all Linux applications (here
comes the work which I am now doing on developing the interface for
Hebrew rendering plugins - details will be publicized at the
appropriate time).
The need is especially acute for logical Hebrew support in the
following:
- E-mail software (such as pine)
- WYSIWYG type wordprocessors
- WWW browsers (a killer application)
- ICQ client software (another killer application)
