RE: using X with keyboard
Did you check in XF86Config that you are really pointing to your mouse.
Its probably using /dev/mouse, but its usually a symlink to someware else,
/dev/ttyS0 for exxample, and it may just be pointing to the wrong link,
because when you changed motherboard you may have chainged the port of
your mouse.
If its connected to a serial port try /dev/ttyS0 or /dev/ttyS1 (you can
increase the number if you have more then two serial port).
I don't know how to deal with a mouse port, but its probably similar, you
may need an apropriate module.
