Are the computers's disks identical in layout? If you have a number
of machines that were purchased together, with the same specs, etc.,
you can copy their installed disk images with no fear. Otherwise,
you need to rerun LILO for each system.
You can do this by booting from a rescue floppy (among your
alternatives are VA research's single-floppy systems, Tom's bootroot,
and Red Hat's rescue diskette); then mounting the system's disk,
and running lilo with its etc/lilo.conf (see lilo's -c option).
How to automate this? I'm afraid I can't see a good way to do this,
except perhaps to use LOADLIN rather than LILO to start linux.
Another tactic you can use is to install the machines with a
kickstart installation (this is a Red Hat feature) instead of
doing a disk image copy. This is a completely automatic
installation, from any of the sources offered to you in a regular
RH install (that is, CDROM, disk, FTP, NFS, SMB..) . You can
also write a script in advance that does all sorts of postinstall
stuff for you (changes login banners, updates packages, whatever
you like). A very nice feature.
