I don't think this is true. I haven't seen the disks side by side, but I know
that WD had licensed IBM's HD technology (I think it's GMR or something like
that). That's far from having IBM manufacturing the disk for them.
n.b. the people where I work pay for a NetApp 18GB Fibre Channel Hard Drive
module something like $2000 (or even more). This module is nothing more than a
Fibre Channel HD in a fancy hot-plug metal enclosure similar to those HD
drawers you see in PC's, but of much higher quality ofcourse.
