RE: Debian 2.1 - sound
I installed Debian 2.1 as well whith cheapbytes original 4-cd's set, and
after changing to kernel 2.2.4 (I decided to give up 2.4 ;) , I configured
the sound modules using the modconf Utility.
It was installed successfuly, but when I tried to play something (well it
was quake2 . ;) I got the message
can't open /dev/dsp. I got can't open /dev/mixer when I tried to play with
the wmmixer (WM manager), and when I checked /dev I was ustonished to find
out there are no sound devices. the were no of the
mixer/audio/sequencer/midi... files.
I had to create them myself. once they where created everything worked ok.
Am I the only one ? - It looks to me you better check your files , too.
