[MailPush] Re: "Precedence: bulk"
Hello Ariel,
After giving the matter a lot of thought, I decided to turn down your
request for help in this specific subject.
The reasons are:
1. Nothing less than a full opt-in scheme (i.e. only people, who
registered with you as ones who want to receive MailPush confirmation
messages, will receive those confirmation messages) will turn your
company from a spammer into a respectable netizen with service, which
is useful to some Internet users.
Only after your company has implemented such an opt-in scheme, will I
agree to help in implementing options for special processing of E-mail
with "Precedence: bulk" in headers (options which will presumably be
useful to some of your customers).
2. The relevant standards are spelled out in the RFP series. Your company
being unfamiliar with such standards yet being allowed to provide
specialized Internet services with annoying side-effects - is like
allowing someone to drive a car, without having first learned "theory"
and passed the theory test, and being familiar with the meaning of the
various traffic signs.
In the case of companies, it is perfectly OK to obtain the requisite
knowledge by employing the services of an outside consultant. However
it seems that your company is not interested in obtaining the services
of a fully knowledgeable consultant with deep familiarity of the
contents of the RFP series of documents - choosing instead to turn to
me (far from being qualified consultant) about those matters.
3. In addition to the Precedence header line, there are also other
criteria for flagging non-private E-mail, such as E-mail which
originated from the Usenet. You must take into account also those
criteria, but I am not familiar with them.
