The Compaq Issue

Well, I would like to say couple of things about Compaq Israel.

1. They don't know Linux. How do I know that? because I am the person who called
them after Eli called me and wanted me to confirm that their hardware works
flawlessly on Linux. So currently they don't know ANYTHING regards Linux. (and I
know Compaq, I'm worked at ISDN NET and all their systems are Digital/Compaq
based [NT servers]) and they are maintaining the systems. I spoke to them. No
one there doesn't know even how to compile the kernel!

2. Compaq makes lots of money with Digital Unix (now called the lame name
"Tru64Unix"), and they're making LOTS of money just from selling it. By selling
Linux OS they don't get the same money as the get from selling Digital Unix, so
they're not happy to sell Linux.

3. For any company that can think with open mind, I would suggest buying a
Server from a non brand company like Excelnet. They're not forcing you to buy MS
O.S so you save the money, and although you don't get Linux pre-installed, you
at least don't pay MS tax. I would also suggest for companies who want
commercial support to sign a support contract with PF1 (just to be covered from
the PHB issue).

4. Compaq Israel is WAY lagging before the International Compaq. Either in
sellings and in support.

** This is my personal opinion.
