People, THINK.

Suppose you managed to hack something like that, what good would it do?

What would these ethernet frames look like on the wire? What would
their `type' field contain? How would the PPP implementation know who
it should send these PPP-over-ethernet frames to?

Obviously, you can't just replace the point to point link the PPP
implementation thinks it is using with a multi-point link and have it
just work. RFC 2516 is an informational RFC published by UUNET and
other companies involved with a similar setup to the one described in
the original message. (In their case, they're interested in using
PPPoE between customer' PC and *DSL devices on.)

Regardless, from reading the original message, I seriously doubt this
is what <shaulk@netvision.net.il> is looking for. (I also doubt
whatever device he's using supports PPPoE. It was published on
February '99.)

To comment on the original question, that setup as described looks
rather convoluted to me. Has the ISP in question stated they offer
such a service?
