Building a Winning Team for the Event

Thanks for all the responses; I received responses of both types -
volunteers, and people with ideas. After summarizing everything, I
got some decisions, and created a table. Everybody who is willing
to help, is welcome to fill it and to reply directly to me (no need
to CC the list!). If you can, rate yourself (marks between 0 - the
lowest - and 3 - the highest). If the mailer shows you a corrupt
table, change your fonts to fixed:

"K": Knowledge, ability (0 = no knowledge, 3 = perfect knowloedge)
"E": Experience (0 = no experience, 3 = massive experience)
"?": A feature which will be installed, but we still don't know if
     it will be also demonstrated

Please detail also your availability on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday,
and availability of media (mainy RH-5.2).

(In case 2.2.2 will not be announced till Tuesday, 2.2.1 will be
used. In case 0.99.9 will not be announced till Tuesday, 0.99.8 will
be used. We will use the latest snapshot of DR-0.15 which will be
available on Tuesday. Wine: 990214, and if there is another cool app
which works perfectly under Wine, it may be used instead of mIRC. In
any case that a specific version of one of the above packages will
not be stable or will make problems, an older version will be used).
Of course, you don't need experience or knowledge in that specific
version in order to have a high mark in it; For example, if you know
perfectly how to install kernel 2.2.1 under RH-5.2, and we will
install 2.2.2, give yourself "3".

Installation will be done on Tuesday (I still don't know exact
hours and place). General rehearsal (Chazara Generalit) will be done
on Wednesday, in Ganei-HaTaarucha (I still don't know exact hours).
Demonstration will be done on Thursday, at 13:00 or a little later.

Special Operations - Urgent:
===========================
We are looking for somebody with a deep knowledge of what hardware
is supported by Linux (including video chipsets, sound cards,
modems, etc.) or - alternatively - an experience with Linux under
Compaq new PCs - to contact Marek of Compaq, and specify what PC and
what configuration exactly is needed for us.
Please call me ASAP (050-237338).

Equipment - Misc.:
=================
The demonstration will be done in 1024*768 resolution!
(I contacted the company which is responsible for the projection
system, and the technician there was happy to upgrade our
resolution when he heard that it was needed for Linux :-)

Unfortunately, Ganei-HaTaarucha charges thousands of Sheqels for the
Frame-Relay infrastructure (even after finding an ISP who is willing
to give you a free second side), so we will have only a phone line.

I decided that it will be simpler to demonstrate only one computers,
so no VNC/Samba/etc. will be demonstrated.

Some Blah-Blah:
==============
Finally, everybody knows that Linux is VERY stable, so the purpose
of the demo is not to impress the people with an unbeatable
stability; The purpose is to demonstrate the "Next Generation" of
Linux (to be included with the various distributions in the
following months), and to show that Linux closed the gap even in the
areas in which Linux was not strong, like desktop environments,
ability to run some Win32 apps, friendlier apps (e.g. GIMP), etc.
I hope to have something cool in Hebrew, but I can't promise.

We will emphasize that some of the parts are still in beta, and that
we built our own mix of different building blocks, so it is not
going to be the most stable OS, and that only future official
distributions will include similar features without sacrifying the
stability. I know that such apologies ("it is only a beta, blah-blah
blah...") did not help Bill Gates when he demonstrated installation
of Plug-n-Pray scanner under the beta of Win98; But still the chance
of a failure is small.

You may call me (050-237338) in any case of a question or a problem.

Thanks for everybody,
