Various Hebrew related notes

I'm answering a few postings in a single letter to make it easier
for me.

I'm picking up your offer, Alex, to organize the building and installation
question of the shared gtk reflected widgets library. I hope to have
time to finish it this week, and I'll let you know through this list
when there is something.

I also promise to try to write up a paper on my experience as regards to
BiDi-related issues, and what in my opinion are the steps that need to
be done to change non-bidi programs to bidi. If there afterwards is an
interest, I'll be happy to give a lecture about it.

Another issue that I would like to do is to puplish the fact that we
are working on trying to put Hebrew into Linux. As I have said before
it seems to me that it should be possible to find someone that out of
zionistic altruistic reasons would be willing to sponsor it. It is
all question of how you present it. "We are creating a set of free
software to be installed in the school system of Ofakim." Is there
anybody here that is good at this kind of arguments? Basically we need a
Hebrew-enabling fund...

Finally, about Mozilla. Indeed there was a BiDi discussion going on
at the start of the Mozilla project. But as far as I know (please
correct me if I am wrong) there is currently nobody actively working
on BiDi issues in Mozilla. As far as I understand it is quite certain
that Netscape 5.0 (Mozilla) is going to be released without Hebrew
support. From what I understand it is also too late to do anything
about it... Here are the two main pointers about Hebrew enabling
of Mozilla that I know about, and note that they haven't been changed
for a long time:

    http://www.langbox.com/AraMosaic/mozilla/BiDi_API.html

So if someone has plenty of time and knowledge, here is where it
may be spent.

Dov
