[ANNOUNCE] Israeli Perl Mongers group
Please forward this around.
== snip ==
What is Israel.pm?
==================
Israel.pm is the Israeli Perl Mongers (http://www.pm.org/) group. Its
purpose is to be a local forum for people who are interested in Perl,
and in reaching other people like them.
Activity will start around a mailing list, with discussion varying
from social to technical. Later other areas of activity, such as
advocacy and social meetings in Real Life may take place (depending
on what people like).
Mailing list post guidelines
============================
The idea is that Perl is an interesting language, and hopefully Perl
people have interesting conversations.
As long as it has something to do with Perl, in spirit or otherwise,
it's on topic. This actually means philisophical one-liners are in :-)
Annoying posts are frowned upon. Excessively annoying posters will
be kicked in the __END__.
What's annoying?
Hopefully, we all know basic netiquette well enough to answer that one.
However, just to make sure:
- personal flames
- really offensive non-personal flames
- spam
- "how do i creck to some1 l8mer then me?" messages.
- /^I agree.$/ messages (ie., those that ONLY agree).
- overquoting in replies
- comPLETELY off-topic posts. The exception is that if you
just HAVE to ask everyone if they saw the last chapter of
Sienfeld, you must close your message with a one-liner :-)
Misc.
=====
Perl Mongers worldwide:
Q: What association do we have with Perl Mongers?
A: Nothing formal. Perl Mongers is a not-for-profit organization
based in New York, whose purpose is to get local Perl groups
started. Once they are started, PM doesn't take part in any
activity of the local list.
Q: Wait a minute - so why should we be part of Perl Mongers?
A: They help start up groups. They give us some hosting services.
They're a bunch of Perl Mongers, like, well, us. They're okay.
Q: Did you say hosting services?
A: Yes, they host both the list and the web site on their servers.
They also do DNS stuff.
Q: But they're in the USA. Isn't that terribly slow for mostly
Israeli members?
A: If you have a reliable server available, we can move to it
anytime. Meanwhile, PM is very hospitable.
Q: So, where is our web site?
A: It isn't, yet. Once we have something to put there, though,
you'll hear about it.
Q: What's this about t-shirts?
A: Perl Mongers covers part of its connectivity expenses by
selling t-shirts. Take a look at http://www.pm.org/tshirts.html .
Don't order just yet, though, we'll organize a bulk order soon
(this should reduce shipping costs).
Contacts:
Q: Who's in charge of this? Whom should I contact with questions?
A: Right now, Gaal Yahas <gaal@forum2.org> is the Moose With The
Hats. Contact him for anything majordomo@hfb.pm.org won't do for
you.
How do I join?
==============
echo "subscribe israel-pm-list" | mail majordomo@hfb.pm.org
Also, consider registering yourself as a Perl Monger at
http://www.pm.org/register.html
This is not required, but it's cool.
