Do you experience packet loss on the point-to-point link from your modem
to the local provider, or is it a problem of your provider ? Try pinging
your defaukt gateway you get when you conect with moderate size packets,
something like:
ping -s 250 -c 50 your.default.gateway
what does that give you ?
