Re: Installing linux in my school.

First of all, what is your card?

Second, if you know what's the driver for you card (let's say it's
ne2k-pci), you write

alias eth0 ne2k-pci

in your /etc/conf.modules - if you didn't compile the card support in the
kernel. Some config tool does it for you, but I don't remember now which
one.

The you go to Linuxconf, create proper eth0 interface (IP, gateway, etc.)
and it should be OK.

No.

It's IPX support module. If you don't need Linux to support IPX, you do

alias net-pf-4 off

in your /etc/conf.modules

Sure. It's the best way, especially for starters. Also reading
/usr/doc/HOWTO/NET-3-HOWTO might help you, though it has much more
information than is required for bringing up network in Linux (but you
should read it anyway, if you want knowing what you are doing).

The information on your card and kernel messages on bootup would help
immensely.
