Re: [OT] NT as a second language for native UNIX speakers
Usually, I don't respond when there are hundreds possible answers; I
don't want to add yet more crowd. But in this case, there is something
which is specific for "native UNIX speakers" as you call them, and
also gives some attention to points you mentioned (such as interaction
with UNIX machines):
http://search.cpg.com/query.html?ht=0&pw=100%25&ws=0&qm=1&si=0&rf=1&qm=1&ct=1978867028
(or just go to http://search.cpg.com/ and click at "NTegration").
It began as a "Trojan Horse" (NT column in one of the leading UNIX
newspapers), and even caused many loyal readers to cancel their
subscription. I, also, didn't love this column (although the existing
of it helped me to finish reading faster; Thanks God, I had a column
which I could skip). But I must admit that it is the best start for
"UNIX speakers".
Note: As any other column, this one is also un-ordered; There is no
special order, or any logical try to cover issues one after the other.
It is not a book, but a collection of articles. But I'm sure that you
will find enough tips to help yourself.
BTW: My OWN best tip, is to install as many UNIX tools as possible,
so you can have your convenient environment under NT: Cygnus tools,
WinZip to read the tar.gz files you transfer from UNIX (DISABLE THE
OPTION OF "SMART" CRLF CONVERSION OF WinZip !!!!!!!), VMware, perl,
Apache (!) (try http://www.opensa.org for a ready package of Apache+
PHP+mod_ssl+mod_jserv+mod_dav+FP+perl for NT; I think that it is now
down for a few hours, so try later), patch.exe, etc. ("LaLechet Bli,
LeHargish Im").
Good luck, and my deep and sincere sympathy,
