You probably should. It's less troublesome to set up (although both
IDE and SCSI drives work eventually), and the main reason is that your
computer is fully usable when you are writing the CD (you can compile
the kernel, start Netscape, and install StarOffice at the same time
and it won't interrupt the writing), while with IDE you're not
guaranteed anything.

Probably you shouldn't. I'm working with the shitty AdvanSys
controller that came with my CD-R; it works flawlessly (installation
in Linux was "modprobe advansys" -- that's all!!) and the writing
doesn't interrupt no matter what I do to the computer. Maybe other
shitty cards with shitty drivers aren't stable and can't support a
steady bytestream or something, but I'm not aware of anything
specific.
