But this is the point. What do you expect to see as a result of the
promotion? Say, I, as a Linux user, don't expect any changes in my life
depending whether the event will be successful or not. But business companies
never do something without being interested in some profit. And I do believe
even a single crash during the expo would divert significant part of potential
buyers of IBM's DB2 for Linux, while showing a M$ app running under Wine
wouldn't give IBM (or Oracle) a penny. And since _they_ put >50% money in the
event (I think), I'd expect the stability would be a main factor. For example,
with 2.2.1, netscape is easily crashing X once a day for me. You may expect
2.2.2 to be better, but definitely not for sure, while 2.0.36 has been running
with no single problem since compiled. So my post earlier yesterday was nothing
but a modest warning and NOT expected to be answered further in the mailing
list.

Of course, it's too late (and meaningless anyway) to call for a vote, but
I would be extremely surprised if majority of veterans of the mailing list voted
for "bleeding edge" stuff.

OK, but _my_ Hebrew is probably not better than _my_ English, so I take the
sad fact as an excuse to continue the topic here :)

After all, a success or failure of the event would definitely be of
some importance to the members of the list, at least from the psychological
point of view - so why not let people express their opinions here? I, for one,
don't like to be thought of (as a member of the Linux-IL group) as a fool who
switched from Windows to just another OS that crashes as Windows but doesn't
even have M$ Word for it - and that's only to save $100 bucks...

Evgeny

PS. Again, it's not meant to be a continuations of a _discussion_
