Emacs (which I don't use, I'm a vi junkie) is pretty easy to
learn, and it's very powerful. It has a nice tutorial built in.

Both of these pages are very good and contain links to the vi
documentation. I also advise you to look at the vi docs from the
4.4BSD User's Supplementary Documents, and "man vi".
But Emacs is easier for the beginner.
