Why do you not use XFree 3.3.5 ? I believe it is a more recent version.

To restore the video mode - try the programs mode3 and vga_reset from a
recent svgalib (1.4.1 pre-release). Look also at x86emu (somewhere in
ftp.scitechsoft.com).
To restore the keyboard to unraw mode, either kbd_mode, or alt-sysrq-r.
You can also kill X locally, with alt-sysrq-k, but then, you will need to
login (and run mode3) blindly.
