Off Topic: Floppy drive hardware problem - update

In case anyone is interested, I still found no solution, but after
some further investigation I found that the floppy (board?) randomly
drops a few bytes every read (didn't try writes), or add a few ff bytes.
Randomly means it is sometimes stable, e.g. as of writing this it drops
6-7 bytes when reading the first sector, but when I tried to remove some
non-critical cards and even just moved the cables inside the box, it
went between dropping up to 8 bytes and adding up to 20 bytes (when
reading first sector). I tried that both under linux (with dd) and DOS
(with debug), so I don't think it can be a software problem.
