If you mean unallocated sectors, that's ok. In fact, I even remember
it was once part of the Linux FAQ (-THE- FAQ ;). It's the space between
the MBR and the first track that you use. Now, overlapped partition,
on the other hand, are dangerous. That means two operating systems
think they own this space, so you could be screwed over without
any warning, once one of them decides to write there and the
other follows in it's footsteps. However...
5% x 6000MB = 300MB, that's the five percent reserved to root.
(Was once 10%, now 5%).
