Sound module not found
I have redhat linux 5.2, with a self compiled 2.0.36 kernel, sources not
from the redhat cd.
Sound was working perfectly fine before, but for some reason now it sais
it can't find the sound module. I only noticed this now, and I havn't
used sound for a long time, so I have no clue what I did last before
this happened. I might have compiled a new kernel since.
The sound driver is the standard OSS that came with the 2.0.36 kernel.
It's compiled as a module because my sound card is PnP (Creative Sound
Blaster AWE64).
depmod -a doesn't give any error, and modprobe sound sais that it can't
find sound.
btw, i get the same error message for midi.
I probably didn't do one of the obvious mistakes: I compiled the kernel
with all the options I need enabled, I compiled the modules, and I
installed the modules.
and recompiling the kernel doesnt help, compiling the sound module by
itself, and installing it, doesnt help. i'm pretty much stumped.
oh, and there IS a sound.o, soundcore.o, etc. in the
/lib/modules/2.0.36/misc
has anyone had this problem before? what should I do to fix it?
TIA.
