Actially not
For parallel ports, all you need to do is configure the port as
lp1 or lp2:

LP     PORT        IRQ
1        378            7
2        278            5

Please note that there is a configuration for port 3BC (which should give
you lp0).

With serial port, youll need to use a configuration tool named setserial.
Refer to the
manual page (man setserial) for details.
In ports that have 2-4 serial ports are usually called non-intelligent ports
becuase
they don't require any driver. Instead the take actual resources (one port
range for each
port, sometimes all ports share the same IRQ - and sometimes not).
