Admin: proposal
Ok, now I submit to the linux-il public a little different
proposal of how to make this list closed and keep you relatively
happy.
The list will be closed for no-subscribers.
When a non-subscriber posts a message to the list, two things
will happen:
1. The moderator (currently, me) will get an automatic
approval request, and if he considers the message
appropriate, he will approve it (I try to read my mail
at least once in 24 hours).
2. The poster will receive a message describing how to
subscribe to the list, and how to post and receive
mail using different addresses.
I hope you'll like this proposal more than you liked the previous
ones. This flame war does lead to something.
Of course, step 2 could be eliminated by making the admin add the
address to the list and flag it DIAGNOSTIC (don't receive mail),
but:
a. I've got laziness and I'm not afraid to use it.
b. I can't be sure whether the poster is subscribed to
the list from a different address already, so flagging
the address DIAGNOSTIC is not good in this case.
c. It will allow people to send announcements to the list
without being subscribed. I don't want the list
address file be flooded with addresses of people who
only send announcements once in a lifetime.
Vadik.

Yes, you can get an account if you promise not to wear ties
anymore.
