No, really.  Would any bad guy post a Macintosh virus to a forum
dealing with SunOS?

It will stop viruses from non-subscribers.  And 99% of spam.
Subscribers can be punished in other ways (like setting NOPOST
flag), but I don't think that I (or my successors) will ever have
to use such tactics.  Explaining the poster why it is not
acceptable to post what he posted is usually enough.

Like what?  Moderating?  No, I won't moderate this list.  I can
set up a moderated announce list, but Linux-IL, as it looks now,
is not subject to moderation.

Setting up filters?  As I said before, filters are fine (some
people don't agree with that, but this is just my opinion), but
they can't stop all the spam, viruses, off-topic posts,
irrelevant posts, offence (which we've seen a lot lately, mostly
from me), flame wars, discussions about politics, and other bad
stuff.  Filters are not perfect.
