Re: Modem problem
Hi,
I tried to install such a Cirrus PnP modem for a customer: Here is what I
found out:
It appears to be a normal modem, but there is a special problem with
linux: It is no problem to config the modem using isapnp. The problem is
to make Linux aware of it AFTER configuring it. The kernel happily
recognices serial ports that are available at boot time, but how do you
add another serial device LATER ??? If you answer this question, you
should be able to use the modem.
In general there seems to be a problem using PnP hardware. E.g. I still
wonder how to tell the kernel to use an IDE interface on a SB16 PnP that
want's to be set up with isapnp. Setting up the IDE is easy, but how to
tell the kernel (or the ide driver) to start using this *new* IDE
interface is the problem. I read the kernel docs, they didn't mention this
scenario at all (they said you can tell the kernel some IDE params,
overriding auto-detect, but didn't say it is OK for the interface to "show
up" later and still be usable).

PS: I really don't think all those job offers are off-topic. On the
contrary, I think this list is the first place such jobs should be
advertised (and perhaps on the web-site). After all we Linux pioneers have
to stick together :-) Don't forget that this is the country that is run by
"Protektzia" :-)
