Re: Admin: Final proposal

I resolved to stay out of this disussion, but as things seem to
get closer to conclusion, I decided to get myself heard, or rather
read, on a couple of issues. The fate of most resolutions... :-(

I don't care much if the list is open or closed to non-subscribers - I
am subscribed. However, the main reason for closing, at least as
presented here, does not seem compelling to me. I don't see much spam
on this list. Correct me if I am wrong, but over the last few months
there was one mail from a Polish guy who wanted to sell hardware, and
the resent mail with an *.exe virus, and that's about it. The annoying
mailpush confirmations were not sent to the list and are irrelevant
here. I don't consider newbie questions spam, though I realize it's a
technicality.

Hopefully the default will be normal version only, no digests.
Those of us who read the list don't need the digests as well.

Why is this needed? What will be announced? If all Linux-IL
subscribers will get it one might as well announce on Linux-IL. I
would understand it if one could only subscribe to Linux-IL-Announce,
but I don't recall any requests for that, or any discussion, IIRC.
Judging from the quotation above it is not the intention, either. So
what's the big idea?

This will only make sense if enough experienced people subscribe and
answer newbie questions efficiently? If not, those newbies who have
half a brain will continue posting to Linux-IL to get answers from the
more tolerant of us. The rest (with less than half a brain) will post
to Linux-IL anyway because they won't ever find out about the newbie
list.
