Re: parallel port and USB (was Re: Printer Drivers for HP 694C)
Hi,
Regarding USB development, I'm subscrbied to the USB Mailing list, and I
follow it daily.
The status as for today is there is support:
* Mouse - works perfectly, but still breaks..
* Keyboard - works ok
* Audio (USB speakers without the need of sound cards) - Can play an
audio signal - but when its finished - kernel panic
* Scanner (HP Scanners anyway) - works. Now the author optimize it to
work well with SANE
* Printers - works (75%) - still some garbage comes out. Lexmark people
are looking at it
* ZIP Drives - works. Optimization is on the way
* Sony VAIO (anyone in Israel got one?) - currently reads disks, not
writing (it looks like it's a sort of SCSI floppy disk)
* Cameras - 50% progress here. You get a frame - and it crashes..
* Modems - 90% works, still some problems
* HUBS/UHCI/OHCI - works (70%) - still got some problems with
connecting/disconnecting devices.
Basically, unless you're a programmer who knows well C and knows how to
include/modify/remove patches in Linux - stay out of this. It's still in
development, and those drivers are not considered even beta yet (many
patches are not even included in the mail Kernel and you'll have to look
for them in the mailing list).
Thanks
Hetz
