Unless you use ssh, if you want to open a remote X application on your
local display, you usually need to:

1). On the local machine, type xhost +remote.host.domain (or IP of the
    remote host.

2). On the remote machine, either do:
  
    tcsh:  setenv DISPLAY local.machine.domain:0  (or localIP:0)
    bash:  export DISPLAY loca.machine.domain:0 (or localIP:0)

    or, run your X applic with:  -display local.host.domain:0 (or localIP:0)
