Re: Philips Brilliance - isn't that bad
BLACK LIST ?!!!
oh come on,
True, Philips didn't issue "CustoMax" for a UNIX plattform but that
doesn't mean that the "Brilliance 105" is not configureable under
Linux.
I have it myself and i had very little problem setting it up.
Once i did got a trapezoid picture but that was due to refresh rates.
In xf86setup under "Monitor" i chose "Extended Super Vga, 800x600 @
60Hz, 640x480 @ 72 Hz" and in "Modeselection" - 800x600 (which is
reasonable with a 15" screen) but i started with the lowest color
depth and once it worked i worked my way up.
Little fine tunning was needed and "xvidtune" was good enough for
that.
BTW, my video adapter is ATi XPert@work, better check weather yours
supports those refresh rates.
IMHO it's a great monitor: great picture, not bad speakers and VERY
LOW radiation (Philips is one of the biggest fanatics as it comes to
safty & health standards).
So, it's a little difficult to configure, you can say that on almost
every aspect of Linux.
Black lists is something M$ do to dealers who sell competing
products...
