Error messages from kernel

My father's having the following problem:

"I keep on getting an error message from the kernel:

target 0: rate=10.0 Mhz, synchronous, sync offset = 15 bytes

this everytime the disk is accessed, so it floods the console screen.

I removed the ethernet module from conf.modules and rebooted, and that
didn't seem to help, so it apparently has to do with the scsi module.
Infact, on boot, the error seems to come up just after it detects the
SCSI, although the reference to 10MHZ throws me for a loop

Of course, the computer comes without a manual, and the COMPAQ site
doesn't say what kind of SCSI it is (its a Compaq Deskpro XL 575:
http://www.compaq.com/products/desktops/classics/deskproxl_pg.html

The install diskette recognizes it immediately and gives following info:

scsi0: AM53/79C974 PCscsi drive rev 0.5: host I/O address:0x7100; irq:
10;
VENDOR: COMPAQPC Model: DPES-30540 Rev:S31K
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

I rebooted the install diskette and noticed the "target 0" errors occur
from the minute the scsi is detected."

Any idea what may be causing this?
