cdrecord question

I burned my first CD today and although it was successful, I got a
strange warning message. I wonder if anyone can explain this.

I created an image using MKISOFS. The image size was about 618
million bytes (590 MB). This was reported by MKISOFS and by "ls -la".
When I ran CDRECORD, I got a message saying:

Track 1 data: 590 MB
Total size: 677 MB
Data may not fit on current disk

As I said, the disk I burned was OK, so what was this error message
all about and where does the 677 MB come from ???

Again - thanks to all who helped me learn about KERNEL compiling,
ide-scsi, etc.
