As far as I know (correctly if i'm wrong) , you can live with a space
between partitions, ... I don't know what you have done, but for me worked
just fine. I mean I have also deleted a "middle" partition, and everything
went ok (BTW i have used fdisk).

The answer IMO is that NO. No, you will not see your /hda9 ever again. Once
deleted, it remains deleted. (Once again, correct me if I'm wrong.).
