I read it in some different sources, including storagereview.com;
All claim that it is not only the same technology, but exactly the
same disk, manufactured by IBM for WD.
IBM has OEM contracts with many leading vendors, including
competitors, like Western-Digital, and also others. For example,
when you buy a hard disk with the name "Dell" printed on it, you
can be sure that the original manufacturer is IBM.
Moreover: Today, more than 50% of the disks that IBM manufactures,
are sold under names other than "IBM". You probably remember the
days when Taiwaneese anonymous companies manufactured parts, and
IBM sold them under its name; Now IBM shifted to the opposite
side...
