Basically you need kernel support for the specific non IDE ATAPI CDROM
you're using.
If you are using the vanilla kernel from a RH5.2 distribution I believe
all you have to do is stick the CDROM in and mount it, except that you
need to know the device name:
My last non ATAPI CDROM was /dev/spbcd (or something similar) (connected
to the sound card) but it might be something else in you're case.

Why don't you take look at the appropriate Howto?

As an anecdote, I can tell you I know one person who has a BAN (Basement
Area network) at home, with a couple on NT's and Linux, ad he uses his
old CDROM on linux (exporting it via SAMBA) because NT doesn't support
his old CDROM... ;-)
