Re: off topic: dvd question

Hello,

I do not know about dvd in particular but in practice if one has a means
to duplicate a screen window from one machine on another in real time then
it will work, dvd or not. Duplicating the audio stream at some level or
other is really no problem.

As others have indicated, the sustained data rate on the network will
come in the way with 10MBps. FYI a video stream of studio quality requires
33MBytes/sec or so (uncompressed) but usually video compression algorythms
squeeze this into 30-50MBps. This is not mpeg. DV camcorders squeeze it
even further down than that (with some loss - but the image quality is
straight from dreamland).

For example something like VNC on steroids should do what you want.
Also, if you accept some loss, the ITU videoconferencing standards contain
data on protocols to transfer live images in broadcast mode, with enough
oomph for live thumbnail/postcard size windows.

hope this helps,

	Peter
