Re: Putting Windows Boot Loader instead of LILO

|I just upgraded my system from RedHat 6.0 to RedHat 6.1. After the upgrade
|was complete I realized that the upgrader replaced the Windows Boot loader
|with LILO. Not only that, but it only displays the letters LI and gets
|stuck.
Go to your BIOS and change the settings from AutoDetect to LBA (it is know
lilo problem).

|
|I normally use loadlin to boot my Linux partition so I'm interested in
|having LILO removed. Does anybody know how I can re-install Windows 98's
|Boot Loader?
Boot to dos/win98 dos run fdisk /mbr - This will restore Master Boot
Record of the HD and put win98's bootstrap there.

|
|The way I see it - I have another option and it is using a LILO disk. I
|have a Windows partition on /dev/hda1 and a Linux partition on /dev/hdc1
|and I want Windows to be the default. If anyone can prepare me a LILO disk
|with those options and with kernel 2.2.12, I'll be grateful. You can send
|the compressed image (for using with dd or rawrite) to
|shlomif@t2.technion.ac.il or put it on an FTP site.
You can do it yuor self, boot to linux - alter your lilo.conf to have:
boot=/dev/fd0, fix all other thing you need, run lilo - thats should do
it.

|
|
|BTW, I think we should complain to RedHat that the installer does not ask
|you whethere to install LILO or not.
well if I remember correct it asked when I updagred mine I was asked about
lilo. What mode you used graphical ? I used text install.
