RPM updating.
Hi people,
I am trying to install some RPM package. It tells me it needs libXXX-2.9
(dependencies).
I do have the requiered library, but older version - libXXX-1.8.
OK - I downloaded the new version from ftp and tried to rpm -Uvh
libXXX-2.9.
Here I got a very long list of packeges based on the older lib (libXXX-1.8)
and it refused to update it.
I decided to ask before trying the --force... ;)
Will it help me? I might mess things up. and if not, what can I do except
removing each of the packages based on the old lib , updating
and then recompiling/reinstalling them (a very long list, and no garentee it
works ...)
I use redhat 5.2 kernel 2.4 (though it doesn't look important).
thanks.
Eyal.
