Problem with partition size
While upgrading from RedHat 5.1 to RedHat 6.0 I ran into a problem that now
my / partition is entirely filled (~70 MB). Because of this I had no room
to put lilo on that partition and have to boot into Linux with a floppy.
My question is:
I have Partition Magic 4.0 which I just upgraded to 4.01 with a patch.
Supposedly this version is capable of moving and resizing Linux partitions.
If I were to resize the / partition using Partition Magic (in Windows 95),
would this resizing automatically be recognized by Linux, or would I have
to do something in Linux to have it recognized? I assume it is the latter,
so what exactly would I have to do? Also, would this process destroy
information on the / partition? In addition, in Windows, when I resize a
partition I have to defragment the partition first in order not to lose
information. I assume the same would be necessary in Linux if a partition
were to be resized. Is defragmenting possible in Linux?
Thanks in advance,
Jonathan Daniel
