I'm not sure on this. First, there's mirroring, which can be viewed as the
most primitive backup form. :) Second, I know some systems where there
*is* backup on secondary HD as one of the backup stages (along with tape).
I think that the advantage is that one can instantly restore any file from
such a backup, and it's much faster.
But for simple ones maybe better indeed to get DAT...
