dhcp & RealTek RTL-8029 problems

I have a computer connected to a cables network. I've installed RH 5.2 on
it.

I had problems with configuration of the network adapter:
The network adapter was not recognized when I installed (in the network
configuration
procedure of the installation). The starange thing about it is that when I
tried running
a FTP/SMB installation - I managed to work with it (I got as far as
fetching the rpms
list from a remote ftp server, but did not want to go on. I had problems
with the dhcp,
but when I used static IP it worked fine).
Anyone has an idea what may cause this?

I tried using the the ne2k-pci module, and it recognized the card as a
RealTek RTL8029.
(the card's mac address begins with 0:0:e8, the card is some nameless
card. The label
on the card's drivers diskette says "LAN UE1219TC-1", with a "BUTTERFLY"
logo).
but the DHCP kept on failing.

I have also Win98 and DosLinux 7.9 on that machine. Both had no problems
with dhcp.

I looked at /var/log/messages. There I found:
----------------------
(at this point I ran /etc/init.d/network restart)
Apr 7 22:01:51 <my hostname> dhcpcd[1396]: REBOOTING: got DHCPNAK. Fall
back to INIT
Apr 7 22:01:56 <my hostname> dhcpcd[1396]: REQUESTING: <my ip> is already
used. Fall back to INIT
(at this point there is a "last message repeated 4 times" repeating about
once a minute
I could also see my machine was sending something to the network once in a
while)
Apr 7 22:39:21 <my hostname> dhcpcd[1396]: assigned IP address:
<my ip>
Apr 7 22:39:21 <my hostname> dhcpcd[1396]: assigned subnetmask:
255.255.255.128
Apr 7 22:39:21 <my hostname> dhcpcd[1396]: got in BOUND state
----------------------
This thing repeated again after I restarted /etc/init.d/network.
Again - I had no such problems with win98 and doslinux (I was switching
between them
once in a while).
Any idea what what may cause this behaviour?
Any other relevant information I should supply?
(I saw something in the dhcpcd documentation regarding problems with
computers computers
connected through cable modems, but this is not the case - as I manage to
get something
from the server - DHCPNAK).
