56K Modem which isn't a win-modem.
I found the following 56k modem, and I think it
should work with Linux (haven't tried yet, as I don't my old banged up box
with me :-), since it doesn't need special windows drivers (it works fine as a
standard modem under windows) and you can configure it as either PnP, or set
your own IRQ and COM port using only jumpers.
it's an ISA modem marketed by the Israeli Dynamode,
with a chipset by Rockwell , and the model number is : V1456VQH-R5 INT1
apparently they market a few other ISA /56K modems,
and from their description, all of them should work fine under
Linux.
