I remember your name from the time when I was a member of the
list (1995 -- 1997).

I'm subscribed to several mailing lists, some of them are
modersted (announcement lists, mostly). I didn't really check
whether any of the lists are open for non-subscribers, but I
accidentally sent mail to several lists with "vadik" instead of
"vadik-whatever" in the From: header, and the mail bounced.

I have only one e-mail address, but it's possible to add suffixes
to the local part with our mailer daemon setup (only in case
where the local part is a user's login name, as opposed to a mail
alias (e.g, you can't send mail to
linux-il-suffix@cs.huji.ac.il)). This is irrelevant, though.
My MUA lets me change the From: header automatically based on
where I send the message, so I don't have to subscribe under more
than one address. But let me repeat once again that the option
of NOMAIL (or, as Listar calls it for some weird reason,
DIAGNOSTIC) does exist.
> My policy and opinion:
> EVERY MAILING LIST SHALL BE CLOSED.
Agreed. Except of some special needs (like, for example, bug
report list, but then it's not a mailing list, but a mail alias).
> THE LIST OF SUBSCRIBERS TO THE MAILING LIST SHALL BE KEPT SECRET.
In this case, I can't even think about the setup where the list
of subscribers must be open. Even to the subscribers.

Thank you and Evgeny for supporting me.
I actually thought about closing the list as the default, and the
discussion started only when Evgeny proposed to do it, to which I
replied with "of course". Several years ago, keeping the list
open would be reasonable, but now it's not. But then, in 1980s,
subscription was made by mailing the owner (human (well, maybe an
alien, in some special cases)), which then did it by hand. But
the Net changed since then, and making mailing lists closed is
required in 1999.

Why would one post from a one-time e-mail address? Usually, even
if you're abroad, if you can read your mail, you probably can
send mail from your permanent address. In any case, this problem
can be solved.
And I don't think that subscribing two times and setting the
don't-get-email flag on one of the addresses is hard.
