You might be interested in the following response from 'The Linux
Community': http://lwn.net/1999/features/MindCraft.phtml.

It lists various things that might be wrong with that survey, but at the
same time acknowledges that if indeed the survey is accurate, it is time to
see what's wrong and fix it.
It is still a work in progress.

In addition to what they say there, I've also noticed that, according to
their own report, Mindcraft didn't correctly install the 2.2.2 kernel - they
had kerneld running, which isn't needed with this kernel (and can actually
cause slowdowns in some conditions - not likely in this case).
This means nothing in particular, aside of maybe not paying too
much attention to proper upgrade procedures of the kernel (the need to
remove kerneld is clearly documented - who knows what else they didn't
properly do).
They also mention that it is possible, during the kernel upgrade, to render
the system useless and force a re-installation. This is a foolish statement,
as we all know.

The only reason to be worried about this survey, it seems, is that it might
be FUD.
