Speak for yourself, not for say Bloomberg L.P. :-)
Now, I cannot help being a wiseass, so here is my NIS.02 for Ze'ev
(I'm sure he knows all that):
1. The presentation should be test-run in advance many times, possibly
in front of a mirror. This includes everything up to mouse clicks
and wondows' moving.
2. Gnome and KDE are big and almost equal in features. I'd suggest not
to confuse people with presenting both of them. I personally would
use only KDE because it has a *less* fancy look and it is included
in most of Linux distributions as a default GUI (no flamewars
please) (~30 seconds).
3. Since Linux is not quite ready to replace a *home* desktop for an
average user, the presentation should not be claim that Linux is a
replacement for home desktop. It should say however, that Linux is
a great desktop for power users, programmers and Web people. (~15
seconds).
4. An office suite should definitely be presented. Since StartOffice
is close in features to MS Office 95, I'd suggest using it in the
presentation. What would be even more impressive is to have a
connection to some other machine/server running Samba and
StarOffice to show networked office capabilities (something like
remote document fetching/publishing/whatever) (~40-50 seconds)
5. A reference to the linux.org.il should be given.
6. Summary, the plan of attack:
I. "You already heard about Linux..." - Linux intro (popular,
# of mlns of users, users in Israel)
II. "Contrary to the opular myth, modern Linux is extremely
easy to install..." (automatic hw detection, snapshot
from COL 2.2 install would help) [25 sec.]
III. "Let's take a look at the typical linux desktop.." (demo
of KDE desktop, StarOffice, Word doc's import, spreadsheet doc
w/ graphics, networked document fetching, access to Samba and
NT servers) [1+ minute]
IV. "There are thousands of applications for Linux...",
support by big companies (separate X desktop filled with apps)
[10-15 sec.]
V. "There are many popular games for Linux..." (demo from
Civ/CTP, Quake 2, BFRIS, whatever) [30 sec.]
VI. Conclusion "If you are into computers, give Linux a try.
If you setup and office computing environment - you MUST
look at linux. There is an Israeli Linux group..." [15-20
sec.]
