Do you use the right drivers for your screen dirive ? does it support the TNT
?

check /etc/X11/XF86Config
and for the mouse

check under Ointer Section if

Section "Pointer"
    Protocol    "ps/2"
    Device      "/dev/mouse"

and if under /dev
/dev/mouse -> /dev/psaux
