In any case, there is no point in getting into this.  I think it is
quite clear to everyone what Eli was trying to get and, as far as I
see it, Eli didn't have much choice either if he didn't want to look
like he is taking authority were he didn't have it (speaking for a non
formal body of people without getting their permission).

Just let's cut the flames here - Eli is doing a great job and was just
trying to be OK with everyone in a quite difficult situation.
