Yes, use gcc 2.7.2.3.

Some people tend to forget what EGCS stands for. it's *Experimental* GNU
Compiler System. It's original mission statement was to carry the development
of GCC into a more open development environment, and add new features and
optimizations. GCC on the other hand, remained much more stable, as almost all
the changes applied in the last years were only bug fixes.

EGCS, as shipped with Redhat 6.0 has known problems, for example, IIRC,
compiling the IDE driver as a module.

Anyhow, EGCS is getting more and more stable, and will be the base for GCC
2.95 and then 3.0 sometime in the near future.

BTW, I don't think EGCS generates larger code. It only sometimes generates
incorrect code, which is much worse.
