Fw: A newbie questions???

Hello.
First of all,
about the HDD - you are mounting the extended partition instead of the
logical one.
if u asking "what the difference is" - The LOGICAL partition is inside the
extended partition.
the extended one countain all of the logical...
now, the logical partition should be something like
/dev/hda5
or
/dev/hda6

about the modem - if this is WINModem, i afraid that you can't use it under
linux.
However, try using /dev/ttyS3.

now, about the EXE - the simple answer is NOPE.
the complicated answer - yea, u can, there are some solutions.
1. DOSEMU - running DOS EXE files. can crush the graphics on local console.
it CAN'T RUN WINDOWS 95/98, but sometimes you can run win3.1 from it. this
one is stable...
2. WINE - can run any WIN95/98 program under X in a window. it crashed my X
(took to many memory ??) twice,
and one time it crashed my linux completley. the usage is very simple - wine
<filename.exe>. very unstable.
3. VMWARE - can run WIN95/98/NT 4.0 in a window/full screen. works little
slow, but good (i even connected to internet through it). can make the
WINDOWS virtual machines with your LINUX in a network, when each machine has
it's IP.
this one is stable, but if u'll play with it too much - it can crush. i
heard it can cause serval damage if you are not using it wisly.

Now, if you need any additional infomation about these programs (where can u
download it for example), please mail me to mars50@iname.com, and not to the
list.

Hope you to enjoy using linux, and bye, allow ole.

    Subject: A newbie questions???

I've trouble mounting my HD on linux. It's fat32 partition and it's goes
as my D drive on windows (extended partition) when ever I'm trying to mount
it on linux, it tell me
(are you trying to mount an extended partion instead of a logical one?)
    I'm typing:
    mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/filesystem2 -t vfat
the same, only make hda2 into hda1 succesfully mounted my C drive.

Secodn trouble, how do I define my modem in linux.
It run on Com4 in windows, and it's ess 56kbps I've heard it CAN'T be
defined.

Third question, and that IS a newbie question, can I run exe files on
linux?
